Both site sponsors BBTS and TF Source now have this set available for preorder for $159.99 USD.

Here are the listings:

BBTS: https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/ ... ails/81630
TF Source: https://tfsource.com/legends-series/lg-ex-big-powered/

Since thes are LG-Ex figures, they will not be available from Japanese retailers like HLJ or Amazon Japan.

This set comprises of Dai Atlas, Sonic Bomber and Roadfire, which are all very heavy retools of the Skyshadow, Misfire and Twin Twist figures released last year. How heavy? Well, we laid out some images below for you tom compare between the original mold and the new toys we are getting. You will also see what the original G1 toys looked like, to see how faithful (or not) these new designs are to them. You can compare between robot modes, alt modes and even base modes. Most G1 images come from this blog post by fellow Seibertronian Scotty P.

Not sure how they would pull that one off. Plus making an Autobot leader doesn't guarantee we will get his Decepticon counterpart. My Masterpiece Star Saber is still waiting for a proper Dezarus (I'm not counting that awful Sky Lynx repaint) to do battle with & Fort Max & Grand Max really need Scorponok & Black Zarak to go on shelves next to them.

As long as it took to get A new Trypticon, I think we can expect to wait much longer for a Violen Jiger. But I would be glad to be wrong on that one.

^The closest thing, without making a completely new toy would be that awful Alpha Q toy from Transformers Energon, and we definitely don't need to see that again. Some 3P company might come up with something interesting. Besides, since the Zone Manga isn't available in English, I don't know if Violenjiger was ever fully shown beyond his nebulous 3 faced form.

I want to know how well put together the combined mode is.
The decepticon power master brothers, their combine vehicle mode was a horrible joke in the last line.

You do know why that is, yes?

I do not
The little guys are the characters' real selves in Japan, not separate-character partners. In this case, Dai Atlas and co. are the small guys while the larger ones are just lifeless bodies they control.

It wouldn't make sense for the little guys to look like Speeder, Sonic, and Drillbuster when they're supposed to be Dai Atlas, Sonic Bomber, and Roadfire themselves.

Didn't stop the Decepticon Targetmasters from looking like Blowpipe ;)

I have but one criticism on this set which, otherwise, will be a goddamn LANDMARK in terms of CHUG releases: I really, really wish they had found a way to integrate even the crudest of waist joint on Dai Atlas as the lack of a waist joint is the only crippling weakness on the Sky Shadow/Overlord mold.

Both the Zone manga and story pages have been available in English for about a decade, translated by Hydra and originally hosted at TF Pulp, but now hosted on Allspark.com:

Foreword by Kaneda Masumi
Zone Story Pages #1
Zone Story Pages #2
Zone Story Pages #3
Zone manga chapter
Zone Story Pages #4
Zone Story Pages #5
Zone Story Pages #6
Zone Story Pages #7
Zone Story Pages #8
Zone Story Pages #9
Zone Story Pages #10
Zone Story Pages #11
Zone Story Pages #12

Also available on TFArchive are the two Zone catalog stories, with English-translated descriptions for each, translated by DrSpengler. Though, while the first one takes place at the very beginning of Zone before all of the above content, the second one is kinda overridden by both the Zone episode and manga chapter, as it presents an abridged alternate take on the events of the episode/manga chapter:

Zone catalog story 2

Fun fact: Aside from Scorponok/Black Zarak and Piranacon/King Poseidon, all the other 'Nine Demon Generals' now exist in Generations form. Meaning that while Valium Chugger Violen Jiger is still absent in toy form the other antagonists of Zone can be displayed versus Dai Atlas!

Now all they need are some capes... ;)

I wouldn't mind a full out Star Convoy. Battle Core Prime from CW was an homage to him and I love that Prime, he is my favorite Generations Prime.

I really want Black Zarak and Piranacon so we can complete the 9 demon generals, the titan city formers (considering Black Zarak would come from Scorponok, hopefully with a trident), and we can complete the scramble city combiner teams, and by extent all the US (at least) released combiners form G1 minus Monstructor (still waiting on something to happen there....).

I also want a Raiden in some form cause Trainbots, and hopefully the brainmasters are all gonna come too.

Indeed, Scorponok and Piranacon are truly among the 'missing parts' of modernizing the GEEWUN stuff, as well as some Victory characters.

Star Convoy was part of the I spoke for the Triple Changer Prime toy we got in TR. It’s the yellow stripe up the chest rememniscent of his chest burst. (That figure is ALLLL The Primes)

But I wouldn’t mind an actual Star Convoy. Maybe they could squeeze it up of a Generations Armada Prime.

Not only that but an alternate Titan Master head based on Star Convoy's noggin was planned for that toy but never saw its intended release.

I'd argue when people mean 'G1' most of the time they mean the Cartoon from season 1 to 3. Late G1 (post-cartoon) doesn't get the same amount of eye-rolls because it's far less re-threaded ground than yet another Optimus Prime and Megatron.

One thing this shows is that if there are some more obscure characters you were hoping would get their own new figures, there's always a chance. Who would have thought a few years ago we would have modern versions of God Ginrai, Overlord, Greatshot, & Grand Maximus, just to name a few?

Is it any good? Real question: is any of the JG1 cartoon stuff better than the Sunbow cartoon seasons 1-3? Like miles better?

I think thats a winning argument. Most people (including people that worked at Hasbro) knew nothing of the JG1 stuff. I myself knew very little until joining this site. And I know for a fact that when Peter Cullen uses the word G1 (which he uses A LOT) its basically shorthand for whatever he was in.

I once had a conversation with a friend and brought up Overlord & Ginrai to which he replied that he was only into G1. I told him they are part of G1, just the Japanese continuity that didn't make it over here back in the 80s. I've watched through the one episode of Zone which starred Dai Atlas who we're all excited about right now....pretty much for me that's the end of G1 or at least as far as I've gotten. So where exactly does G1 officially end? Is there a finite point or is this something up for debate amongst the fans?

To some people GEEWUN begin and end at the cartoon. Some aren't even aware of the Marvel comics which ran for a long time and laid out a substantial portion of the modern mythos. There's different ways to say what is and isn't 'G1' and it vary both from people in context:

Is G1 the entire continuity family, meaning American and Japanese Toon, Comics and toyline? Does it also include the Beast Era which is a direct sequel? Does it also include G2? Is IDW considered G1 as it is its own distinct continuity? Truth is it depend how you want to define it. But for most people, GEEWUN is "that-cartoon-I-watched-as-a-kid-and-the-toys-it-sold-me". Some purist who are still salty consider G1 to end at the Movie.

There is no finite point. The recent Legends comics we got from Japan are continuing the JG1 continuity so it is technically still going on.

I'd argue when people mean 'G1' most of the time they mean the Cartoon from season 1 to 3. Late G1 (post-cartoon) doesn't get the same amount of eye-rolls because it's far less re-threaded ground than yet another Optimus Prime and Megatron.
See, this is what I loved about Titans Return. Triggerhappy? Misfire? Slugslinger? All G1 Characters, but aside from Slugslinger’s Energon cameo, none of them have had a real figure since their first toys, so yes we are getting G1 characters, but by all rights they are totally new to the later generations of fans while still filling in the old roster, rather than yet more Starscream and Thundercracker.

Actually most of that line was pretty fresh; twintwist, topspin, kup, perceptor, breakaway, krok, alpha trion... pretty great

I would never say no to an actual good starscream figure

what i think needs to be next is a proper Dezaurus and a proper Liozack and Jallguar for combiner wars Liokaiser :-?

LK,LC and Dz really need a modern treatment! ;)^

And yes, little by little, the G1 barriers are breaking down! Resistance is futile!

I'd argue Combiner Wars started the trend on a smaller and less obscure scale: the Scramble Combiner teams in full when usually only the leader of each team got an update.

@ William- The Japanese series is very much a case of YMMV. To me, these *were* the continuing episodes (basically season 5-7) that we never got in North America, but should have, especially since I'd known about them since their inception thanks to a friend I had way back in 1988 who's father traveled back and forth to Japan frequently. These were not something I found out about years or decades later.

But for some, there definitely is something lost in Translation. I hear many find them boring or silly. I think they fit right in with Sunbow's stuff. Though if you jump straight into Zone it can be jarring. But if you start with Scramble City and Headmasters (which have designs and concepts very much like the Sunbow series), and progress form there, the culture shock is not that bad. I think these series are great, and they are one of the most underrated treasures Transformers has to offer.

@Skirtz- As I'm sure you know I find the term "G1" overall to be demeaning, but I don't tell anybody how to act/post on these forums, and I know not everyone uses it in a derogatory way...However. - To ME Anything released from 1984-1992 is considered The Transformers. PERIOD. Whether it be toys, in print, or animated, and no matter what country it originated in, it's all part of the same great era that started it all. At times of course I will be more specific depending on what forum, and point I'm trying to make, but it's all the Original Series.

@Sabr- Thanks for posting those links, Ill definitely get into those soon. All I had was the Zone mini booklet which basically was a retelling of the single animated episode. I had seen individual designs and pages before, but never thought I'd be able to read the whole thing. Much Obliged ;)^ --I just kind of wish IDW (or perhaps letting them subliscense to a company like Viz, and produce an official translation in print and make them available for purchase in North America

I'd add to this: Beast Wars is in a complicated case. Continuity-wise it absolutely IS part of the Generation 1 greater continuity. However, from a toyline standpoint it is a unique and different brand made with a different crew and even a different subset of Hasbro (their, at the time, newly-bought Kenners). So Beast Wars both is and is not Generation 1/'The Transformers'. It is in the sense it take place within the same universe and continuity (well, one of them anyway) and is both a sequel/prequel/spinoff (damn time travel).

To make an analogy: the stuff after the G1 toon ended is like all the Star Trek stuff after the Original Series ended, be they the Animated Series and the Movies with Kirk. And the Beast Era is like The Next Generation: both are the same universe and the same series/brand and therefore the same world and continuity but they are clearly delineated era with a different name, branding, staff, cast and esthetic.

This clearly mark Beast Wars as distinct-yet-still-a-part-of-it compared to what came after, like the Michael Bay films, Unicron Trilogy or Animated. These were full blown continuity reboot, starting from the ground up.

Does that definition seem fair?

Oh I 100% agree that the animated series of BW, BWII, BW Neo, and BM are a canonical continuation of the Original animated series, set in the same universe. But the toys, and any other ancillary product I tend to keep separate, if that makes any sense.

There is another term besides "G1" that can be used to encompass all of the Sunbow/Marvel/Headmasters/Masterforce/Victory/Zone/G2/BW/BM/BWII/BWNeo/Car Robots/Dreamwave/IDW/etc. stuff, but it's a term that a lot of people don't like to use on account of it having come from Fun Pub's super-nerdy TransTech material.

That term being "Primax".
