Seibertronian Sabrblade pointed us in the direction of some comparison photos of Takara's Legends Ginrai and Hasbro's new Magnus Prime figure, coming in the soon-to-be-released Siege of Cybertron box set! The photos, from Twitter user autobase_aichi show the two Prime figures in their robot and truck modes, but they also compare their headmasters and weapons! Take a look at the (subtle) differences! (Hint, Hasbro's has the darker front windows.)

I don't think they're actually any bigger. It's an optical illusion due to the angle of the camera in that comparison picture. There are some ambiguous depth cues going on too like the star pattern on the table top and the slightly non-parallel arrangement of the two guns.

There really isn't too much of a difference is there?

I'm surprised that the red and the blue seem to be the exact same.

Why change something that looks good and is already done for them?

Plus there are several little changes that some might like more or less but at the very least it will still probably fit with Godbomber color wise.

Both look more like a real PMP than Hasbro's previous abomination, so I'm okay with that.

But the headmaster for Takara (if I'm interpreting things right) looks spot on for HI-Q, whereas the other one not, so that's a (minor) issue.

Not sure and probably not. Someone asked BBTS and they said they wouldnt have more and the reason they sold out quickly was because people were buying multiple sets. There werent any limits. they changed that for Black Convoy who had a limit of 1 per person. Keep an eye out for canceled preorders. You never know what can happen. people have bills to pay and usually keep the preorder as a placeholder and cancel right before it gets released in case they cant pay.

I don't see any of the swirls that seem to be present in problematic plastic mixes in that carmel looking "gold"

I like the head scuplt, though, I didn't really care about this part of the set but he looks nice.

I like the Hasbro Magnus Prime there better than Ginrai's robot but Hi-Q looks much worse. I was hoping he'd be in his tradtional colours like Ginrai is.

Come to think of it I'm really starting to like this whole boxset - that thumbnail image with them all standing together as some bizarre ragtag team really helps me enjoy the whole thing and come up with so many headcanons.

Tidal Wave is far too small and looks nothing like the original... but those only end up being a boon to each other when I headcanon this as an alternate body for him. And that carrier mode is to DIE for.
Metalhawk looks amazing and uses an amazing mold. He only looks better with these images =P~
Pounce is adorable. I love him.
I still have huge issues with how Ginrai looks (I really, REALLY cannot get over those feet), but I'm sure there's easily some cool poses you can get him into and the vehicle mode is incredible.
Thunderwing...
... okay, I don't care for Thunderwing; but when the only thing in the boxset I don't particularly want is the friggin' Titan Master, I think I'm okay.

I'm sorry, but that is not the Broadside mold, rather it's the Alpha Trion one. The tell-tale sign is the set of legs on the underside, where the wings would be on Broadside. At the time, it was all rumor, and we didn't know how much retooling there would be.

Agreed. I have seen a few items, including this set, pop in and out of stock up until BBTS receives its shipment. Heck, I'm even thinking about canceling. I don't have much patience. If that Takara boxset with Ginrai and GB isn't too expensive, I may jump on that instead. I shall see.

I agree that it looks more like A3's legs as the front there than it does Broadside's fins (though if I'm honest, it mostly looks like artistic-license missile pods more than anything), but the little bridge-component, wing-shaped parts on the sides with what appear to be Broadside's arms under them, take-off/landing strip down the middle in the exact same way as Broadside, and most notably lack of huge space-boat cockpit are much more Broadside than they are Trion. At best it's an amalgam of the two figures, or they just happened to somehow guess exactly what a lot of TR Broadside's defining features would be; most likely though, I'd posit that they were already working from the Broadside mold (whether we as consumers knew about the figure yet or not).

I don't keep up with Takara news too well, but I seem to remember some rumor floating around that there'd be some kind of Ginrai/God Bomber 2-pack (coming with Minerva and Hosehead heads to boot, I think) - of course that's a rumor at most, last I heard.

The only toy of Minerva that exist is the G1 Original. Japanese exclusive. Ultra rare. Insanely expensive. And ugly as a vile duckling.

She's my grail for my fembot collection.

She be really worth it to be made as a deluxe in the TR line.

Actually not that bad in price but it's a low priority since I don't own Magnus (I want to though) and I'm fine with how Powermaster Prime is and I don't like it if it removes the headmaster gimmick.

Huh. Well, my plan to re-sell the Autobot twins together should still work. It also seems like a lot of people might just buy the entire set (from BBTS or third-party sellers).

Tidal wave does have a jet mode as far as I'm aware, it's just that nobody's showing it off because that mold's jet mode is terrible awful and anyone who acknowledges it shall be exiled for ever and ever. :-P
But yeah, I think most people aren't showing it since Tidal Wave didn't originally have a jet mode and it is, all things considered, pretty underwhelming. I believe we got some pics of it back during NYTF though, if you wanna go looking for those...

Yeah, I don't mind it too much either to be honest, but you've got to admit it wouldn't be the first port of call when one is trying to show off how great the Broadside mold is.

A
1. No and No, they won't removed the nosecone of the jet, that's too nasty, TW has Jet Mode

2. Magnus Prime is uhh.. mostly one of the name making of Ginrai.... for obvious reasons....

Sorry, but I think Wolfman Jake is right. Why would Hasbro make the exact same gun, but just increase the size? They're already piggy-backing on Takara's remold. Why waste the money to remold a gun this late in the game? It just doesn't make sense.

No, TTMall is the only Japanese seller allowed to sell this toy in japan and its already sold out (but that doesnt matter, they only sold to Japan adresses anyway and something tells me you live in NYC).

Whenever TTmall has an exclusive in japan, Hasbro Asia makes a killing by distributing their own release internationally since it becomes the only distributor. So you will find the set at BBTS and Robot Kingdom for $170-$180 in a few weeks.

Also be weary of hope in this hobby. Hope is just undiscovered disappointment.

Thry are much more related to the G1 toys. did a comparison in the past to their appearance in the comics and its not like the toys have a direct reference to what we see in IDW. Any similarity is simply because both IDW and Titans Return both take cues from the G1 toys. I would not call them IDW accurate. The only IDW accurate toy in TR is Sentinel Prime ;)

It will be $170-$180. All TTmall exclusives sold at BBTS were priced at the same Yen Amount but changing the Yen sign for a $ sign. Like any of the Exclusive Unite Warriors Box Sets for instance.

IDW accuracy in this line is... weird. They never go all-out like various Thrilling 30 figures or have a mostly-accurate version with only a few varying details like CW Ultra Magnus. It instead goes for a strange middle ground between referencing the comic and referencing the original toy like on Chromedome to the point I'm left thinking that maybe they should have just gone 100% in one direction rather than meeting half-way and not being an accurate depiction of either. But at the same time I'm somewhat grateful to have what little referencing there is so I can put the toys on the shelves and not be too bothered that Rewind doesn't have his camera or that Brainstorm doesn't have his really cool stylised head design? It's the heads that matter at the end of the day when evoking a character most of all.

SO WHY DIDN'T THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE HEADMASTER GIMMICK TO GIVE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF A FIGURE'S HEAD TO PLEASE EACH PART OF THE FANDOM THIS COULD HAVE BEEN SO PERFECT :HEADHURTS: :HEADHURTS: :HEADHURTS:

I had never seen this 'partformers' Minverva before. Somehow, it's interesting. As for a more modern release of Minerva, I wouldn't dare to hope unless there was a mold already in the plan (not that there is to anybody's knowledge). The Titan master of her head could be enough to kitbash another TR car into a Minerva if I get this set. That being said, that would be a lot of money for a head since I already have both Ginrai and Godbomber.

Check your Rewind again. He has the little camera on the side of his face.

Oh no no that's what I meant; I'm not bothered like I would be if Rewind didn't have the camera. I suppose my explanation did get a bit hard to follow

Trust him, he's been doing this for much longer than you, there's a lot of undiscovered disappointment to be had in this franchise. Like how CW fizzled out among unpainted figures, or how the best figures in this line are never gonna see the light of day with proportionate heads :(

Oh I'm not arguing, I'm one of the greatest pessimists you'll meet. It was just such a stingingly accurate remark that I had to single it out for appreciation.

As for that Animated Minelba, what's the point? The colors are almost the same as the original Arcee. But if she's not that expensWIIIIILLLL YOU SONOVA!

 My wife had to leave because I was laughing so hard.

Well, that partsforming Minerva/Minelba would be the Wonderfest 2015 Minerva Resin Kit. I have never seen it on e-bay. Funny enough, the other Resin kit they did for Wonderfest that people have been wanting is Metalhawk but he will finally get a proper release in the titans return line, but also in an exclusive boxset.
