King Kuuga wrote:Could we please stop misusing the word "repaint"? It's only a repaint if the injected plastics are all the same but the paint map is different (this is extraordinarily rare). This is a redeco.
That is an incredibly specific detail, which I did not know about.

Unfortunately the misapplied term repaint gets substituted much more often and is the prevailing term among fans.
TO RECAP:
changed plastic colors + new paint apps=redeco
same plastic colors + new paint apps=repaint
NOW YOU KNOW!

Regarding redeco vs repaint. I see the differences that are being stated but in the end I just don't think it is truly that important. Existing tooling, different colors. It's commonplace in toy collecting that is referred to as repaint. No, it's not dictionary level correct. But a lot in the English language where liberties are taken, but the point is still understood.

Yeah, like a lot of Americans use "Mad" to mean "Angry". Drives me mad

Kind of like how "I'm sorry" and "My Bad" mean about the same thing... unless you're at a funeral

Takara Tomy does this on a regular basis, taking a pre-existing Hasbro retail figure and painting over it in their new colors, making calling them repaints a little more valid.

I'm having wheeljack combiner peg issues but it is much less severe than on my hasbro wheeljack which skips a whole click because looseness. Modular weapons is absolutely brilliant, this better be a reoccurring trend. It's my first unite warriors set and it might have pushed me over the edge of Kittyking and/or Voltorion
Another issue with Lightspeed's ratchet. Must be what JZGR said.

If you think i'm not going to use mad to mean mad, you're mad. And if it makes you mad that I say mad to mean mad but not to mean mad, then you're mad.
Emerje wrote:In some cases saying "repaint" is actually more accurate than saying "redeco". When coming up with a new design for an existing mold they'll often take the former finished figure and repaint it by hand in new colors to test the design.

It is accurate in that specific context but not as a catch-all term.

Back to Megatronia, I find her title on the box a bit... surprising: "Woman Decepticon Warrior Combiner". What's more interesting is the Japanese title: ウーマンデストロン合体女兵士 (Ūmandesutoron gattai on'na heishi) or "Woman Destron Combined Woman Soldier". In other words, "Woman Decepticon/Destron" is the name of this particular sub-group.
It's a bit insulting, really...

Excuse me.....male privilege coming through....
For real though, may I ask why you find it insulting? As I look at it, it's simply saying that they're Woman/Female Decepticons, and that they combine. It's like in the G1 cartoon, when the Female Autobots appear. Chromia, Moonracer, Lancer, Greenlight, Firestar, Elita One.....their team name is the Female Autobots (at least according to TFWiki).
Anyway, to me, the only reason that there would be a team called Female Decepticons, is that it's not only comparatively rare to have female characters in fiction, but a team of them? Almost unheard of. So they're not just another Decepticon team. The only thing that makes them different than any other combiner team is the fact that they're female, so that fact is pointed to in the team name,

I think you may have just said it yourself. The Combaticons are all specialists in war. The Stunticons are all great drivers. The Constructicons are a team of builders and architects. This team name implies their gender is more noteworthy than any skills or abilities they may have.
Oh dear, I've just got involved in a discussion on feminism on the internet...

It's simple: unlike men, females can multitask. So they don't need a single specialization, they're female warriors, good at anything.

Their team name being "Woman Destrons" is a counterpart reference to how Elita One's group in "The Search for Alpha Trion" was called the "Woman Cybertrons" in the Japanese version of that episode.JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:Repaint, Redeco, Remold, Retool, let's call the whole thing off. The word "woman" in the translation is used twice for a reason:
- ウーマン (Ūman) is the English "woman", used as a proper noun, a name.
- 女 (on'na) is the Kanji meaning "woman", but often used more broadly for anything feminine or anyone female.
It's the first I have a bit of a problem with, doesn't have as big of a umpf.

Really thought I'd have UW Comp by now. Supposedly it's happening at the end of this month.
Sounds like this set is a big hit overall.
Not to mention, to save on shipping I'll be getting UW Brut in the same haul.
Yeah, my patience has been pushed too. But that's not a terrible thing, seeing as how it gives me time for a paycheck or 2 to come in and give me a little more wiggle room budget wise

I'm the same. Though to be fair I think BBTS had several rounds of pre-orders. Additionally I think mine was a cancellation that I just snatched up as I saw it was on pre-order long after it has been "out of stock" and I could only order one, so I may have literally gotten their last pre-order, unless someone else cancels.

And I found a col way to position the wheel in back of Afterburner so that it is exactly as it is in the cartoon and G1 toy:
Strafe has 4 ports in his forearm!
Dont know why he needs so many, 3 is already plenty
And the modular weapons are fun (and many are painted)

Oh definitely I am not a fan of the plastic used for Scattershot's wings and the way Strafe's head is attached is a little wierd, plus I would have liked the excess alt mode panels on the rook mold to fold into the forearm but thats about it for flaws.
Here is how Afterburner looks on the side

Yup. Takara scrimped off Scattershot's wings the hollowness made it so gooey soft. Heck, even their guns are much much harder
well nobody's perfect Should have been the most perfect of the gestalts.

Its still the best one (although I have a soft spot for Hasbro Bruticus for some reason, I really like the deco on all its members). But wait does that mean that Hasbro's Scattershot has different plastic for the wings? I will ask in the combiner wars thread.
And just curious, are there any pics of the correct way that Strafe and Afterburner look like as legs? Because if not,I will take those pics tonight.
Also, can anyone tell me the use of the detachable tail fins on Strafe?

Ok thanks. Makes sense since both toys are made in the same factory and more than likely use very similar material.Still too bad though. The plastic on Cyclonus' wings was excellent.

Don't be discouraged by my rant. Computicon is worth the extra moolah. It's just the wings so soft because of the hollow panels (not the open hole. And a bit of a warning on Lightspeed's ratchet joints. It makes using him as a leg kind of annoying as it causes Computicon to wobble a bit. I used wipe and Shine to minimize the wobble.
Also noticed that since Scattershot's shoulder's serve as Computicon's "femur", some mold degradation must have occurred because the ratchets aren't as tight as Superion's. Maybe someone who owns Hb Computron can feedback if this is the same issue with the mold.

There are somewhere in one of our more recent Computron stories. I don't have the time to find it, but it was there

I've never actually said what I think of Computron now that he is in hand and yeah he's great. I wanna say he's better than Bruticus but man he's great too.
Now that I own the Breakdown mold I'm actually surprised it's gotten so much hate. Once I got him in hand I actually liked him a good bit.
