The whole Magnus Hammer didn't really come about until Animated, so it doesn't make too much sense to include a hammer with a purely G1 representation of UM.
But then again, that would make a great Amazon.jp-type exclusive
Also, faceless Spike & Daniel remind me of this Are You Afraid of the Dark episode:

On a seperate note its not too late for KFC to melt down all those citizen stacks figures that never sold into toothbrushes.

He looks perfect, like Wheeljack a straight 10.
However he's huge. And I really want MP Star Saber.
Might skip Ultra Magnus this time. But he looks excellent.

Besides KFCs bad timing for an MP Magnus, it just puzzles me how takara could make it scale properly with MP-10 in both modes but KFC couldnt. Takara flat out made the KFC designers look lazy.

Was ultra magnus taller than optimus in the cartoon? I always thought he was the same height as rodimus prime?

Wasn't mass shifting developed by Takara?

The scale in every transformers cartoon is out of whack.

while youre right about being chunky (which i think works for him), i really dig the head sculpt.Bounti76 wrote:Color me the only one not terribly excited by this release. His proportions are too chunky, and something about his face seems off. Like he's got a skinny head and the helmet is too big for it. And didn't he have a visor in the cartoon rather than individual eyes?
and no he didnt have a visor. we all discussed that about 10 or so pages ago. thought id save you some time by just telling you rather than sifting back and having to read about the "buttflap debacle".
Posted by Bounti76 on December 11th, 2014 @ 5:27pm CST
I dunno.....I am of the opinion that the chunkiness works against him....he is a physically big bot in the show to be sure, but the proportions work better there, even if the animation isn't the best.

unfortunately pulling off a MP ultra magnus was always going to be tricky. some sacrifices im sure had to be made and im pleased with the overall result.Bounti76 wrote:Hahaha....thanks for the help. I looked him up on TFWiki right after I posted that and he does indeed have two eyes. They look like sunglasses to me, though.

It's anime accurate Stormrider. Check the season 3 pics. If not for sabrblade's pics, I would not have noticed his red bumper.

I would be more inclined to believe the concept of "mass shifting" was created by the animators from Sunbow Productions in the G1 cartoon. The toys didn't have to justify the change in size because they were toys. The cartoons did because they had to be drawn side by side with humans in both modes.

That and as I previously mentioned.......Takara is a 1st party product. 1st party can do wonders over their actual original concept product over a 3rd party company. 1st party thread while KFC is 3rd party.

It is because KFC used the following scale chart image for size reference when they made the figure:
HOWEVER, there's one little problem with this particular scale chart: It doesn't exist. Unlike the official one that Takara's been using for sizing the official MPs, the scale chart seen in the above image that KFC used for Citizen Stack is fanmade.
All who claim that it is official claim that it comes from the Transformers: The Ark book, which is the book that has the official scale chart that Takara uses. However, many people (including myself) own the book and have confirmed that the scale chart found within its pages contains no image of Ultra Magnus towering over Optimus/Rodimus/Grimlock as seen in the above image. The only chart to be found in the book that features Ultra Magnus and Optimus together is one that has Magnus only a head taller than Optimus:
Full size
There is no way KFC could have gotten the scale chart in the first image above from this book without someone first editing it. Therefore, it has to be fanmade.
Now, as to why someone would go to the trouble of deliberately making their own scale chart to have Ultra Magnus be so ridiculously tall compared to how tall he is in the real scale chart is not known, nor does it even make much sense. I can only imagine that someone believed or wanted to make Ultra Magnus be bigger than he really is, and so made their own fake scale chart to justify their fantasies. It's far-fetched, but crazier things have happened.
All that said, though, the official MP-22 Ultra Magnus is still a bit taller than he ought to be, being a couple heads taller than MP-10 instead of only one head taller like in the official scale chart. But I guess Takara tried their best to match the scale chart as close as they could, but could only get so close without magically losing the existing mass of the vehicle mode in robot mode. At least it's not nearly as massively off in size as Citizen Stack is:

He looks a good size to me anyway.
Posted by fenrir72 on December 13th, 2014 @ 9:27pm CST
and how the original power armor set up of the original UM was implemented, it is quite doubful to have designed him to be just a head tller than Optimus. What more if there was an actual core withe Optimus body within. He'd still end up bigger similar tothe upcoming SOC GaoGaiGar.

Actually KFC made Stacks that out of scale because they let the fans vote on if they want it to scale with MP-10 in bot mode or ALT mode. and the fans voted Alt mode...

I'm actually digging the color and lives down the street from a true UM coloring scheme. But I'll gladly add you Ultra Magnus to my personal supply. If they did Marlboor, I can see this on up for a recolor.

Could care less about scale or buying stand alone toys.
Think MP-22 and KFC Citizen are a lot closer in height than some speculate. Guess we'll now soon enough when fans buy the toy, take pics and do video reviews.

You guys can have this one. I don't think the blue looks as nice as the G1 toy, not even close.
I never got into the later Transformers bots anyway, so no ties to Magnus like I do for Prime.

Delta Magnus wrote:Well Transformers and scale have never exactly got along well- and considering most of the Season 3 episodes were animated by the notoriously shoddy AKOM (leading to some truly awful size changing) and the general disregard for the scale chart the animators had...yeah, I don't care. He looks good next to him anyway, and Ultra Magnus' size seems to be one of those things nobody can agree on (let's not forget that time he was able to pick up the constructicons in his hands like they were toys- which is hilarious considering they combine into a robot that at one point held Prime in his fist in a similar manner!).
He looks a good size to me anyway.
Thanks for those memories. Season 3 was so awful that even as a kid I was always thinking wth. Magnus's size is fine Grimlock on the other hand is a whole other story!

I don't care even thought your right ! LOL
Most MP's are after designed after the Cartoon colors. However, they go back and forth from G1 Toy colors and Cartoons. Look at Takara's MP10 and Hasbro's MP Prime. Starscream, Soundwave's eyes, and this goes threw out the whole Transformers toy line. Which to make them like, G1 Toy colors, or like cartoon. Just saying.
