HASBRO’S TRANSFORMERS BRAND EXPANDS “MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE” UNIVERSE
On the heels of launching 2009’s largest grossing movie and in anticipation of the next installment in 2011, the TRANSFORMERS brand from Hasbro, Inc. ramps up the play in 2010 with new offerings that build on the energy and excitement from the brand’s history and blockbuster film franchise. Featuring over-the-top action figures, unique role-play items and innovative twists on the TRANSFORMERS brand signature play pattern, the 2010 lineup offers dozens of toys and two exciting promotions to satisfy and excite the brand’s ever-expanding fan base.


This spring the AUTOBOTS, the heroic protectors of Earth, need help from their human allies in the N.E.S.T. GLOBAL ALLIANCE as the planet continues to face threats from the evil DECEPTICONS. Hasbro is inviting kids and fans to join the alliance through a special promotion that is currently underway. By getting the N.E.S.T. ALLIANCE PACK and collecting three stickers included in specially marked TRANSFORMERS products, kids and fans can join the N.E.S.T. GLOBAL ALLIANCE and mail away for a special edition RAVAGE figure not available anywhere else. The promotion requires a payment of $4.95 for shipping and handling charges to receive the special edition figure and the offer is good while supplies last. Requests must be postmarked by April 30 and received by May 14. Then, in the fall, kids can ‘live’ the TRANSFORMERS adventure as the “Hunt for the DECEPTICONS” promotion begins. Look for exciting details about this interactive promotion later in the year.


If fans can’t wait until 2011 for the next TRANSFORMERS movie they can watch online webisodes of “Cyber Missions,” featuring new TRANSFORMERS adventures. “Cyber Missions” finds the AUTOBOTS working with humans in the N.E.S.T. global alliance to defend Earth against the revenge-seeking DECEPTICONS. There will be 12 webisodes total which began airing online at http://www.TRANSFORMERS.com in early January and new webisodes will continue to air throughout the year.

BUMBLEBEE continues to be one of the most popular TRANSFORMERS heroes as he acts as both a defender and a warrior for good. The new BATTLE OPS BUMBLEBEE action figure continues to push the boundaries of TRANSFORMERS toy innovation and showcases two sides of BUMBLEBEE with features unique to each of these roles. For example, when serving as a guardian, BUMBLEBEE features more playful phrases along with authentic engine sounds and lights. Then, when converted into battle mode, BATTLE OPS BUMBLEBEE has missile launchers that pop out, a converting plasma cannon that lights up, and phrases that change to reflect his battle personality.

Seibertron.com was in attendace for Hasbro's Transformers panel at Toy Fair 2010 and was taking frantic notes during the presentation. What was revealed and discussed? We have everything from War for Cybertron to Revenge of the Fallen to the new line name: Generations!

Hasbro's Plans in General
--Almost all of Activision's War for Cybertron line is proprietary, which means that Activision owns most, if not all, the products
--Spring 2010 - Hasbro will continue to market the ROTF line into the summer
--Fall 2010 - Hasbro will be taking a step back in the interim between ROTF and Transformers 3. They will focus on Transformers in general, and not a specific line such as Animated, ROTF or Universe. Expect fewer Transformers during this time.
-- There will be a video game on Transformers.com to mark the 'Transformers - Hunt for the Decepticons' brand. There will be specially marked packages with codes that will let you go in the mainframe and detect where a Decepticon is coming from. New codes let you battle new Decepticons, joining the Autobot alliance. All assortments will have codes, come in gold package with 'Hunt for Decepticons'

With Toy Fair just hours away, ABCNews.com has posted an article notating all of the toy manufacturers that will be present at the annual convention.

The one thing that the news story seems to focus in on is how toy companies are in the process of switching your everday toylines into entertainment properties. According to the report, 25 percent of all toy sales are in direct relation to licensed properties such as Iron Man and Shrek. These sales were down 27 percent in 2009 from 2008's reported earnings with the exception of Hasbro's Transformers. Sales for Transformers were up over 20 percent from the sales connected to the original 2007 film, helping Transformers become one of the Top 5 properties in 2009, according to the NPD.

Hasbro, the company that brings us the wonderful Transformers toys that we love so much has issued a press release regarding their finances for the 4th quarter of 2009 as well as their totals for the entire year.

Here are some highlights.

PAWTUCKET, R.I., Feb 08, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS) today reported 2009 fourth quarter and full-year results. For the fourth quarter 2009, the Company reported net revenues of $1.38 billion, an increase of $144.1 million or 12%, compared to $1.23 billion a year ago. 2009 fourth quarter revenues grew 7% excluding a $55.4 million positive impact of foreign exchange. The Company reported net earnings for the quarter of $165.6 million or $1.09 per diluted share, an increase of $72.0 million or 77%, compared to $93.6 million or $0.62 per diluted share in 2008.

For the full year 2009, the Company reported revenues of $4.07 billion, an increase of $46.4 million or 1%, compared to $4.02 billion a year ago. 2009 revenues grew 3% excluding a $65.2 million negative impact of foreign exchange. Net earnings for the full year were $374.9 million, or $2.48 per diluted share, an increase of $68.1 million or 22% from $306.8 million or $2.00 per diluted share in 2008.

In this thread at Shout! Factory, Brian Ward has made it known that they are investigating whether or not to release the Japanese Generation 1 Cartoons - Headmasters, Masterforce and Victory - onto DVD into the states.

I was actually speaking to someone about this the other day. Obviously, we have a very good relationship with Hasbro and would like to pursue additional titles from their library. Without any promises, of course, are the Takara collections something you'd like to see on DVD in the States? I have all three of Metrodome's volumes, which run the gamut of quality, in terms of both animation and all-around storytelling. So is this collection, which has never officially been available in the U.S., something most Transformers fans would like to see done right? Or is it something aimed only at the hardest core fans?

N.E.S.T., a secret partnership between the AUTOBOTS and humans dedicated to stopping the DECEPTICONS, was most recently featured in the blockbuster movie TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN. Now, by collecting three different stickers included in specially marked TRANSFORMERS products available this spring, kids and fans can join the N.E.S.T GLOBAL ALLIANCE and mail away for a special edition RAVAGE figure not available anywhere else.

The promotion kicks off with the N.E.S.T. ALLIANCE PACK, a special edition 2-pack of new TRANSFORMERS action figures featuring the popular BUMBLEBEE and SOUNDWAVE characters. In addition to the two figures, the N.E.S.T. ALLIANCE PACK includes a N.E.S.T. GLOBAL ALLIANCE Mission Guide and Redemption Form, one starter sticker, and a N.E.S.T. Agent Patch, officially making them part of the alliance. The N.E.S.T. ALLIANCE PACK is the only product in which the Redemption Form is available and is necessary to participate in the promotion. The ALLIANCE PACK is recommended for ages 5 and up and is available for the approximate retail price of $19.99.

Additional stickers are available in specially marked TRANSFORMERS toys at retailers nationwide. Once the necessary three stickers have been collected and placed onto the N.E.S.T. GLOBAL ALLIANCE Redemption form, consumers mail them away to receive their special edition RAVAGE figure. The promotion requires a payment of $4.95 for shipping and handling charges to receive the special edition figure and the offer is good while supplies last. Requests must be postmarked by April 30 and received by May 14.

For more N.E.S.T. action fans can watch online webisodes of “Cyber Missions,” featuring new TRANSFORMERS adventures. “Cyber Missions” finds the AUTOBOTS working with humans in the N.E.S.T. global alliance to defend Earth against the revenge-seeking DECEPTICONS. There will be 12 webisodes total which began airing online at www.TRANSFORMERS.com in early January and new webisodes will continue to air throughout the year.

Monday, Feb 1st, 2010 - New comics series TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the Wreckers #1 and G.I. JOE: COBRA II #1 both going to 2nd printing.

San Diego, CA (February 1, 2010) - The excitement keeps growing for IDW Publishing's TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE comics, with two new sold-out series last week. On Wednesday, January 27th, IDW released G.I. JOE: COBRA II #1, a continuation of the acclaimed COBRA series, and TRANSFORMERS: Last Stand of the WRECKERS #1, a new miniseries spinning out of IDW's ongoing story. Both comics flew off the shelves and are already sold-out though Diamond. Under license from Hasbro, IDW is rushing to a second printing for each, and fans can expect them in stores on February 10th.

"This is a really exciting time for fans of both TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE," said Andy Schmidt, editor of both lines of comics for IDW. "We've tried a lot of new things and had a lot of success due to the support of not only the existing fan base but also many newer fans who are discovering these comics for the first time."

WRECKERS gives fans a taste of what's been happening off of Earth as the WRECKERS investigate a prison planet that fell to the evil DECEPTICONS three years ago. Called "a festival of awesome" by TFormers.com, the second printing of WRECKERS #1 will feature a variant cover by Roche.

Written by Mike Costa and Christos Gage, G.I. JOE: COBRA II continues the danger and suspense of the acclaimed G.I. JOE: COBRA series, as the G.I. JOE team penetrates the evil COBRA organization and eventually comes face to face with COBRA COMMANDER himself. The masterful art of Antonio Fuso gives new layers to the subtle yet undeniable divide that fans have witnessed within COBRA, highlighted in the celebrated G.I. JOE: COBRA Special #1. The second printing of G.I. JOE: COBRA II #1 will offer an exclusive new variant cover treatment.
