  • Transformers Roll Out!

5:30-6:30 Transformers Roll Out!— This panel will travel from the earliest Transformers G1 crash landing on earth to the Headmasters evolution in Japan to the beastly battles and arrive at the modern day. It is a look at the Transformers TV/ DVD journeys, including elements consistent throughout and opposing forces in Transformers lore. Panelists examine character development, weaponry, and weaknesses in Transformers More Than Meets The Eye, the Headmasters/Super-God Masterforce/Victory, and Beast Wars. • The Military in Film
  • Motion Picture and Television Illustrators

Shout! Factory's Brian Ward has shared some new information regarding their upcoming Takara Collection releases via Shout! Factory's Community forum. Many fans have been wondering ever since "Transformers Japanese Collection-Headmasters"'s announcement if they would include new dubs or possibly the old fan dubs. The answer is unfortunately no on both counts. Though Ward does say they tried very hard, but Hasbro ultimately said no.

I really can't make this any more clear. We've tried and tried to no avail. The brand team at Hasbro is dead set against including the dubs on the DVDs. They're not happy with the fact that the names of some of their most popular characters have been changed and find it confusing to their less hardcore fans in the United States. Furthermore, there are other things they've heard and find objectionable; content they feel to be detrimental to their brand name. As a result, they will not currently allow me to include the dubs.

the topic of fan dubs or new dubs has also been broached with the brand team. In order to have anything like this approved for inclusion on the sets, they want approvals over the scripts, the voice cast and then the final audio. We don't have the money required for a new dub. For starters, it takes studio time. Then, it takes paying the actors. Everyone asks the same question; would the original voice cast be able to come back and voice the characters? Simple answer: no. There are members of that voice cast that charge as much as $10k just to make a public convention appearance. That's a single person. Now multiply that by the number of voice actors. We don't have that kind of money. These guys aren't going to do this simply out of love for the show. For you, it's a passion. For them, it's a job. And once the voice cast completes their task, we then have to remix the entire show. This is all very expensive and incredibly time consuming.

so there you have it. It's not that we don't want it included. I very much want the option of the Japanese or English language tracks. But Hasbro is equally adamant about keeping them off. You're more than welcome to try to convince them otherwise, but believe me; when you have this conversation with them, you realize very early on how little love they actually have for the Takara shows, let alone the English dubs they find to be confusIng and offensive.

Brian

In regards to "Super-God Master Force" and "Victory", he says we will probably get them. Apparently the sales of "Transformers Japanese Collection-Headmasters" will be used to gauge interest in the project. It's still up in the air on "Scramble City" and "Zone".

I can say that you should expect follow-ups of at least Super-God Masterforce and Victory. I can't really make any promises, regarding Scramble City or Zone at this time. That being said, Headmasters will certainly be used as a rough gauge of the series' popularity. After all, it is the only one of the three that is a direct continuation from S3, so we wouldn't necessarily expect the same response to the subsequent series.

Hope to have more information for you guys soon.

Brian

Lastly, when asked about the possibility of all three shows in one set he had this to say:

Unfortunately, I can't reveal the release strategy, until that information is cleared by PR and Hasbro. But I will say that I'm currently working on all three sets, in hopes that the sales of Headmasters will prove the others are worthy releases.

Brian

I'll honestly admit it. I did not expect 2010 to be that strong of a year compared to 2009. Well I was completely wrong there. After living and breathing the Transformers lifestyle for the past 12 months, it feels like Transformers has gained a new level of popularity, and another level of excellence. 2011 brings mystique and new horizons. Yet if it's anything like 2010, then we are certainly in for one heck of a ride.

Can you believe it? We're about to enter the 27th year of the Transformers franchise! While franchises have become defunct, or have fallen off the face of the Earth, we have stood strong together. Certainly it hasn't always been pretty, take the transition from Generation One to Beast Wars, or the split-opinion on Michael Bay's Live-Action films as examples. However as a long-time fan and member of this site, as long as Transformers continues to be what it is - the heroic Optimus Prime fighting against all odds, or that joy you get when you open up toy packaging - then every year will be a great one.

Before we embark into 2011, I think it's suitable that we celebrate 2010. With that notion, I have the help of eight of my fellow staff members - Burn, Counterpunch, Dead Metal, Delicon, DevastaTTor, Diem, Mach, and Razorclaw0000. Before you get to know their Transformers tastes, let's get to know a little bit more about the people who help maintain Seibertron.com and assist this wonderful community!

  • I'm Blurrz, from the land they call Canada. Armada crazed, and you don't need to guess who my favorite Transformer is.
  • Burn is here to give us his "disgruntled" "I-like-my-TF's-as-bricks" opinion. We're not actually sure what he does on the staff though!
  • Counterpunch has a knack of making other people buy Transformers. He also keeps the forums safe with burning justice, or was that Punch?
  • Dead Metal is crazy, from Germany, and he helps out the news crew while most of us are fast asleep. Did I mention he's crazy?
  • Delicon is a humble Transformers fan from the Northeast United States. He keeps the news up and running.
  • DevastaTTor has this addiction to collect transforming plastic toys. You might have heard of it.
  • Diem spent most of the year in Takara territory, and made his way back to the US later on. He got married this year, so congratulations!
  • Mach keeps the news looking mighty fine from Singapore. He's an Optimus Prime fanatic, he probably has more blue and red trucks than you!
  • Razorclaw0000 is a big contributer on the News Crew, and still has the time to maintain one of the most comprehensive Mini-con collections in the world!

Now that you know a little more about the staff, here's how we're going to reflect on 2010. We're each picking our favorite candidate for the following categories listed below. Once you're done reading our input, we'd like to see yours by replying in the forums through the 'Discuss This Topic' link above. Transformers-Prime.com, a sister site of UK based fan-site Transformers at the Moon, has held an interview with the newest voice actress to the vast family of Transformers voice actors we love so very much.

We will post just the first two questions, so if you wish to read the full interview please do so by clicking here.

It is our privilege to be able to bring you an exclusive interview with Transformers Prime voice actress Tania Gunadi. Tania voices Miko Nakadai the female lead human character in the show. We recently had the opportunity to ask Tania some questions regarding her role, the show as well as her acting and background in general.

Q1. You were born in West Java in Indonesia and moved to the United States at a young age, could you tell us more about this and what first impressions when you arrived within the US?

Oh man, moving to the US was one the coolest things ever. It was actually a really big surprise because my sister had submitted my name into the US green card lottery, and I won- along with my Mom and Dad! This might sound a little funny to Los Angelinos bu t when I first walked out of LAX airport, I was blown away at how fresh the air was and how awesome the traffic flowed cause I'd never seen a freeway before. And I liked looking at all the big buildings, the variety of people surrounding me and everyone was speaking English! And while I didn't quite understand what they were saying cause my English was super bad at the time, I was just so excited to be here.

Q2. How did you get into acting and voice acting and what was it that interested you in acting in the first place?

When I grew up in Indonesia, I knew nothing about acting, voice over, or anything involving TV/Film. Then while working at Pizza Hut, my first job in LA, a friend mentioned something about auditioning for a Disneyland commercial. I didn't even know what auditioning was but long story short, I booked it and have been hooked on acting ever since. I remember calling my mom and telling her that I found what I wanted to do in life, and she was pretty much shocked. She was hoping that I would work in a bank or something like that where I have a stable income with my own office and wear like, a nice suit and stuff. She tried convincing me that acting was to be a hobby only, and that I should find a real job, but I told her that it IS the best job for me because I get to have fun and make a living at the same time? Eventually after coming to set and sitting in some acting classes with me, she came around to being very supportive of what I love to do. She even had a small part in an episode of Boston Public with me and enjoyed it very much!

For those interested in the upcoming Japanese cartoon version of Animated, TFW2005 member DrillBit has scanned and translated the latest edition of Figure-Oh magazine. You can see his original post by clicking here but we've provided you with some highlights.

The first four episodes have been announced. The first three are the original three part miniseries known in the United States as "Transform and Roll Out" but these episodes are now known as "New Chapter! Transformers," "Hero, The name is Autobot" and "Secret of the Allspark," respectively. The fourth episode to be shown will be "Operation Soundwave," which was titled "Sound and Fury" in the US and actually was the tenth episode shown here. The placement of this episode fourth would seem to raise some continuity issues, especially involving Megatron's status at that point so it will be interesting to see if any editing is done to ease that.

Here is the official voice cast roster for the Japanese version of the cartoon. You might recall that Ironhide is simply Bulkhead's Japanese name. Longtime TF cartoon fans will recognize a few of these names because of their roles in past series such as the Japanese dubs of Beast Wars, Armada and Energon.

Optimus Prime: Takahashi Hiroki
Bumblebee: Kishio Daisuke
Ratchet: Okawa Toru
Ironhide: Miyake Kenta
Prowl: Yusa Kouji
Ultramagnus: Ginga Banjo
Sentinel: Suwabe Junichi
Teletraan I: Takagaki Ayahi

Megatron: Wakamoto Norio
Starscream: Yamanoi Jin
Blitzwing: Cho (Nagashima Shigeru)
Lugnut: Itou Kentaro
Blackarachnia: Uzuki Ryoka

Sari: Akesaka Satomi
Professor Sumdac: Nagasako Takashi
Captain Fanzone: Tobita Nobuo

There are many famous voice actors in the Transformers universe. Obviously, Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime and Ironhide), Frank Welker (Megatron, Soundwave, Galvatron and the cassettes), and Chris Latta (Starscream, Sparkplug and Wheeljack) are nothing less than iconic but for many fans Gregg Berger is just as legendary. Gregg has a very extensive resume but he's best known to Transformers fans as the voice of Skyfire, Outback, Long Haul and of course GRIMLOCK from the G1 Sunbow cartoon.

Gregg has been a very busy man in 2009, headlining at not one but THREE major conventions this year. The first was at Botcon 2009 in Pasadena, CA this May. I had the honor of being granted an interview with Mr. Berger at that time and he was a true class act. The topics included the most unusual items he has ever autographed, a breakdown of some of his current projects and of course some reminiscing about the old Sunbow cartoon among other things. You may read that interview here.

Roughly 2 weeks ago, Gregg was also one of the featured guests at the world famous San Diego Comic Con. While at SDCC, Gregg again took some extra time out for an interview, this time with newsarama.com. Gregg kindly voices his opinions on the Shout Factory! G1 boxset and the live action Transformers movies, and of course a lot more. You may view the entire interview here.

Headlining at those 2 conventions would be impressive enough but Mr. Berger's appearance schedule still has one major stop ahead. This time, he will be heading to the United Kingdom for Europe's largest Transformers Convention, Auto Assembly 2009. The staff here at Seibertron.com would like to applaud Gregg for everything he has done and continues to do for the many Transformers fans all over the world. Those of us who have been lucky enough to meet him feel very honored for that opportunity. The fans attending AA2009 are in for a treat, to say the least!

For more information on Gregg Berger, you may visit his official website and his myspace page. For serious booking inquiries, you may contact his representative Emily Danyel of Tri-Booking Management at emily@tribooking.com and at 1 (310) 497-7994.
