That's not all, ahead of release they'll also be launching an Animated series on YouTube in March!
Here's what the lineup looks like and what you should expect from the line. Prices indicate this will be a budget line and images imply they'll have limited articulation.
Energy Masters – ¥4,750 ($31 USD)
-WKM-01 Energy Master Optimus Prime (looks reminiscent of Energon Prime)
-WKM-02 Emergy Master Megatron (tank)
Energy Beasts – ¥2,750 ($18 USD
-WKB-01 Energy Beast Rightol (Giraffe, looks a lot like Longrack)
-WKB-02 Energy Beast Hydrophant (Elephant)
-WKB-03 Energy Beast Captain Vulca (T-Rex)
-WKB-04 Energy Beast Reefback (Triceratops)
-WKB-05 Energy Beast Ignite Bite (Wolf or Lion?)
-WKB-06 Energy Beast Sbilichuan(?) (Spinosaurus)
The Spinosaurus appears to be a remold of the T-Rex.
Wildoking sets – ¥7,700 ($50 USD)
-WKS-01 Optimus Prime & Rightoll
-WKS-02 Megatron & Captain Vulca
Names are far from final, some are probably not even close (Rightol is probably Lightall). Also note that there seems to be an elemental theme going on with the Beasts that will certainly play into their combined forms. We know the giraffe and T-rex can form arms and others will also form legs while there also appears to be interchangeable heads and armor.
With less than six months between now and release are you excited about a new Japanese exclusive budget line? Let us know in the Energon Pub forums!

It was kind of like the Godbomber/Apex Armor for Convoy. I think they were starting to scratch the surface with the Fossilizers, etc, but if they could kick it up a notch that could conceivably be very cool. Like a combination of the Weapon/Fossilizers and the Minicons which unlocked powers.
It's a little more like Power Rangers or Voltron, a bot that combines with animal themed arms and legs with some added armor and heads (helmets?) to finish the look.
The figures do require some "parts combining", you have top pop off Prime and Meg's legs at the knees to combine with the Beasts from what we can see in the images.

How would you compare this to, say, the Power Core Combiners we had a few years back? Similar idea, just done better?

Sort of, but the drones turn into robots and the torsos don't seem to change unless you snap parts on. Probably closer to Energon Optimus Prime, but if the drones transform and the torso change remains minimal. It wasn't clear if the libs could be arms and legs, I think the image we saw of the giraffe showed a third and fourth mode, but one was a black and white pic of the figure and the other was a drawing so it could be another case of that Kingdom poster where Ractonite was entirely different from the figure.

OK, I am definitely intrigued. Would be nice to see some new characters and something new and interesting!
(new Transformers concept alert!! Cue whining in 3...2...1...)

It's a shame, while I appreciate the look, transformation & articulation of Generations & Studio Series, they are kind of "boring" except the weaponizers and I longed for some fresh gimmick TF to fiddle with and go wild with play patterns for years. All those 1/3-step/flip changers & EarthSpark finger figures just don't do the job for me. Finally this line got that something I looked forward to seeing and have some fun with.

In other words, they got lazy with the design and didn't come up with something more original.First-Aid wrote:Sabrblade wrote:No. The names are given in the OP.First-Aid wrote:Is that Longrack???!?!?

Especially since they all appear to transform exactly the same way, with the animal heads hanging off all of their right shoulders.

Yeah, and that seems to be why the t-rex shows two different arm modes, the swapped the tail and head. Also noticed that Prime's torso can be popped off below the head and shoulders. Looks like these are going to be extremely modular.
I'm also pretty sure parts of Prime's axe snap onto the sides of his head the same way the out of place horns on Megatron's canon snap to the sides of his head.

You know, you just made me realize that these could be kinda like spiritual successor to the "-Izers" that Age of the Primes is going to be skipping out on.Emerje wrote:Looks like these are going to be extremely modular.

Like the Voyager and Core "izers" that we should have gotten but never did (aside from Trashmaster).
