I genuinely enjoyed the knight motif (
of course). Merlin was hilarious. Webley was actual an important part of the story as opposed to other female leads from the other movies (though the dating part of her characterization felt... awkward). The score was, of course, awesome, as were most of the action scenes. The return of Hot Rod was appreciated, though more my brother than by me. I'm also glad they changed him up, not making him a rehash of his G1 self.
Mind you, I will also note that everyone's entitled to an opinion. This is mine and I respect that you probably (almost guaranteed to) disagree with me.
Of course, I agree about the opinion part.
Here we go. I didn't mind the Merlin part, I actually liked the medieval part. They could've made 50% of the movie about that, ancient ruin like giants and a reason why the English people should survive.
They handled that good, little too much explosions maybe for it's time.
Webly is a Megan Fox lookalike and stole the little latina girl her screentime because she can be sexualized, what I hate about the movies. So I think she's crap, Micheal Bay would've found a way for a sexdoll or a dildo to have an important role in a Transformers movie if he wanted to. Doesn't mean it has any place in a Transformers movie.
I loved all the movies scores, I didn't like this one. But that's personal. ROTF, DOTM, AOE, great scores by Steve Jablonsky.
Action scenes were hollow because there were cardboard cutout characters killing each other. Didn't like any of the Decepticon stereotypes. The knight robots and demon combiner had potential if not for 2 minutes of screentime before dying because we need to focus on humans.
Bay & team really forgot they did way better action scenes:
Revenge of the Fallen forrest battle, made excellently. My favorite giant robot action scene ever.
Transformers Starscream against the other Raptors, looks fantastic!
Dark of the Moon, Optimus against an army of Decepticons with jetpack, awesome!
Age of Extinction, Optimus against Galvatron. The hunt for Ratchet (which almost gave me nightmares so intense)
These guys know how to make good action scenes and write at least a little decent character for the audience to be engaged.
The Suicide Squad, I didn't care. Combiner looks cool, but dies in 1 sword slash.
Hot Rod was another over the top stereotype. That's the problem with most Autobots, they have to be over the top because they have 4 seconds of screentime. Otherwise the viewers are only going to say, the green one, the yellow one and the red one were... cars and stuff.
They could make the movies better, but they just refuse.
And the last one was the final insult.
Stranger Things, Star Wars, Suicide Squad, Batman v Superman, King Arthur, Gravity,
I mean come on! That doesn't fit in one movie. It felt like an episode of Robot Chicken having a bunch of toys and hot people parody the recent movies.
It's like Scary Movie with Transformers instead of Marlon Wayans.
It's total nonsense.
Damn I hope Bumblebee will be different.
