I've been thinking about this a lot though, especially as my collection matures...so, when is it that you've had enough of a figure or character? When are they done?
I ask this in light of MP Optimus V3, but I was caught thinking about it as I ordered that PotP Nemesis Prime off Amazon and briefly considered how I had only handled my LG EX Black Convoy for all of the time it took to check his three modes.
I don't think I'm ever 'done', it's more a matter of becoming increasingly selective, i.e. Movie Bumblebee.
Outside of Bumblebee and Prime, it's hard to think of other character that have been so overplayed. Prime fatigue is real, but Prime IS Transformers to many people; I find it hard to balance Prime fatigue with the appeal of a Prime display.
That said, I try to avoid tiring of the LGEX style redecos by collecting exclusively Nemesis-colored black Primes.
I think there's a part of me that feels greedy for keeping so many versions of characters when one or two are out-in-out definitive.
Take for example the Titan Returns Tidal/shockwave above.
I have the Armada and Micron Legends versions, both superior in almost all regards to the boxset version from Titans Return. Why keep it other than the fear of not having it? It's a question of maintaining a large, perpetually changing collection.
I have a couple of different sets of criteria running on my extremely limited shelf space. (But boy do I have a lot crammed on there!) One is "What best captures the Character essance against the others." And the other is "Gimmixks I think are cool.
So for Example I have CW Prim3 chilling on a shrlf of CHUG esque Autobots that make up my main head cannon, many of who G1 counterpoints to Aligned Continuity roles) because he's the best overall size and proportion, and even though hes way beefier than a G1 Prime, still looks good.
(I regrattably sold my Classics Prime, kinda hate myself for that now but oh well)
Meanwhile, I have MagnusPrime/PE Ginrai/Godbomber on a different shelf vecause I love the figure and gimmick. Could I call that my neo G1 Optimus Prime? Believe me I tried, but no. But he's cool so he stays.
If I had more room, BH Prime and the Target Voyager 2007 Optimus (with the Cullen driver that springs out when you close the door)would be on the shelf too. Both are toys I just plain like, but lost out on display space. For me, the question is not "Is it Greedy" to keep them all, as much as "Am I keepung these because I still like them and will put thrm out? Or have they lost their Value?" Armada Prime was cool once, but a poseless brick he also be. I probably would sell my Enefon Prime, if not for one of the chest windows having a broken hinge. I probably would sell 2007 Leader Prime too, 'm just not into that one anymore.
Hot Rod: Before TFSS Impactor, ai had Enetgon Rod Major leading my Wreckers. Then he was replaced with TR Hot Rod. Now I keep bouncing between TR and the de Primed PotP Hot Rod. Right now I think I like the TR just a little more and keep PTP Rod as Rodimus Prime next to Powermaster Prime. Rodimus Prime just doesnt fit my headcanon,
I have my Armada and Energon Tidal Waves out, and those are awesome figurea, but I sold my TR Wave and hated that enough that I weht back and bought another one. The Armada figures define Tidal Wave, but the TR figure does something different and I like it. I almost like it more than Broadside, whobis chilling with my Wreckers with TFSS Quickslinger plugged in the same way as I have Astrotrain. I don't know if thats just because I grew up eith Tidal Wave or the colors or just the way they fit into headcanon. But then, most of my favotite TR Voyagers
Hmm, maybe I should go start a Collection Page. Its only 2 shelves, and 4 totes, but I could probably tell a good story.
