We've got Bumblebee on the brain - what with the movie trailer up and all - and the Twincast crew is here to articulate what we think sets this 'prequel' installment apart from the main Bay-verse of the first 5 movies. In tone and style, at the very least, it looks like we have reason to believe the film will be nostalgic, heartwarming, and a boon for the flagging movie franchise. In other words: believe the hype. Fly like a butterfly...
The latter half of The Toys That Made Us season 1 (#TTTMU) has been released to Netflix, and we're ready to take a closer look at the Transformers episode. The story of Transformers is uniquely complex, and the show does a fantastic job of breaking it down. We certainly learned something new, and share our appreciation for the front loaded history, even as we hope for a post Beast Wars follow up. Did we mention that Seibertron.com's own founder, Ryan Yzquierdo, is featured prominently on the episode? Bonus: the News Staff is here to give you the play by play.
That shirt sure is a sexy piece of work...
Masterpiece is on our minds, specifically MP44 Beast Wars Megatron and MP42 Cordon. We marvel at the masterful engineering of Megatron, even as we speculate wildly at the likely high price tag, and give an approving nod to Cordon, and the continued trend of pre-Transformers / Diaclone redecoes of these Masterpeice figures. Oh, and as we talk shop, more images of Megatron drop. Did we mention he was massive?
Yeeesss, that's Air Attack Optimus Primal next to him. That's when his scale REALLY hit us.
We're not quite done with Masterpiece yet - we have yet to discuss the 'toy accurate' MP29+ Shockwave and MP36+ Megatron. Shockwave is purple. A purplier purple... perhaps even the purpliest purple. We were fine with the old purple, but are also fine with the new purple... it takes saying purple a half-dozen times to really think about how weird the word purple is, doesn't it? Anyway, while we pine for grey Shack-wave, we take on the weirdness of MP36+ Megatron - the chrome, the side cannon, everything. It's so ugly, we love it - all that's missing is a trigger crotch.
Gives a new meaning to the term 'bucket head'.
Requiem of the Wreckers is on the chopping block, and we just wish we could get more. Va'al's excellent review for this excellent book can be found here. This book truly is about relationships between parents and children, and we seek to explore those relationships through the prisms of purity and corruption. The narrative seamlessly flows across the past and present (and in the end, future), and across artists, so just watch out for those emotional punches as Roche bids a fitting farewell to the current cast of Wreckers, and alludes, perhaps, to something new. If you want to avoid spoilers for this issue, the time in the file to avoid stretches from 1:23:00 to 2:04:20.
Just because you can't force people to change, doesn't mean they don't.
Here we make a brief mention of upcoming reissues. First, we look at Beast Machines Air Attack Optimus Primal, and second, we talk about the reissue of our very own RodimusConvoy13 in the form of his adolescent self, G1 Hot Rod, who hasn't been widely available in this form for over a decade. The Twincast Crew then shares what G1 figures they'd like to see reissued - we have some solid recommendations.
A Wal-Mart exclusive!
We conclude this episode, like we always do, with bragging rights. What has the Twincast managed to find since our last recording?
We are much obliged, Ollie's!
