Got to pose Silverbolt around some, he is pretty dynamic. I really wish his wings were a bit bigger, and could fold forwards to feather launching position though

Still very unhappy with the unused small wing clips on the sides of Vector Prime's legs.

Looks orange in that bio card art to me.

The orange is the only part that's right (aside from the absence on the Spider head). The Bio card shows orange, pale green and chrome. No purple. Also the opposite face is all chrome with a red visor.

There's only so much they can do with the mold and how the parts are laid out. Unlike the original toy but like the cartoon his crotch doesn't make the spider head so it's a different color and would have required a lot of paint. There is no chrome in the art and we do have a prototype figure to prove it.

Image

Outside of that the only thing that's truly been changed is the head (sculpt and all). It's painted like the 10th Anniversary figure and probably done so you can swap it onto the Kingdom figure.

Ah, I was trying to find that image before leaving for work (yes, I'm posting from work...) and it wasn't where I could see it on TFwiki so I went with the commercial screen cap.

I still wish the new figure was clear orange, but there must have been some tolerance issues.

Yeah, I had trouble tracking down a viable copy of that pic. Had to dig through Reddit to find it.

The bio artwork is reflective, so I say "chrome" although it is silver. Naturally I knew the figure this Legacy figure is referencing. Beast Wars being both my formative Transformers series and the toyline I took the most interest in.

I assume the Kingdom Spider Bot head doesn't vertically swivel to use both faces ala the OG figure?

The actual figure that Sabr linked to used sparkly silver plastic which is basically what the new figure uses.

And no, the Kingdom figure doesn't have a changing head, hence the new head sculpt on the orange figure.

The lighting is a bit intense in that first pic. It's not so "sparkly" in this pic of the other thigh:

Image

The original Tarantulas toy also had gray paint airbrushed onto the spider head. The orange prototype version seen in the catalog and commercial had it too, which is why the new figure has a gray robot mode pelvis (the test shot from eBay I linked to doesn't have it because it is unpainted, lacking all the yellow paint details on its abdomen and mandibles as well as the gray airbrushed paint on the spider face).

Then why didn't they just use the Legacy Tarantulas head (as the original figure did) and paint that silver, with a red visor.
Image

Instead of a Blackarachnia redeco which was never right in the first place???

Hasbro: We are going to create a figure using the original colour scheme for Tarantulas, as faithfully as possible.
Also, Hasbro: The head will be completely wrong, from sculpt to colour palette. But we don't care enough to give the figure the correct one.

I already explained that, they gave him the head from the 10th Anniversary figure. Mostly likely done so people can use it as an alternate for the Kingdom figure. Let's be honest, an all silver head would have been boring. Realistically he should have come with two heads like previous 4 packs did.

Not to mention that it was the cartoon that made his Mutant Head his default head. In the original toyline before the cartoon began, all of the Deluxe/Mega/Ultra toys had Mutant Heads that were treated more like battle masks while their normal robot heads were their true heads. This toy's head is based on the design of the original toy's true robot head, not the false Mutant Head.

I didn't say it was chromed. I said it was chrome [the colour]:

when referring to the colour, chrome is described as being light and reflective, similar to silver or aluminium.

Emerje wrote:Let's be honest, an all silver head would have been boring. Realistically he should have come with two heads like previous 4 packs did.

It's not like they have done redecos based on the Mutant Masks before, eh?

Image

Image

Or ..used a "boring" silver head:

Image

Almost as if there was precedent set by these redecos that they were ignoring with this one. >:oP

The design for "Orange" Tarantulas was set by the bio art. A redeco of Legacy Tarantulas would have been cheaper and more faithful than what they chose to do.

I'd keep an eye out with Pulse, once it comes into stock they should have additional units to sell. Same for other sites.

If it hadn't have been for Game Stop's BS I'd have ordered him for there, when he was still preorder- able.

Uh, chrome isn't actually a color. Chromium is a color, chrome is metal or metallic plating. If you ask somebody what chrome on a toy is they're going to point at vac metallizing like on Transmetal figures, not silver paint.

You might have an argument with Tigatron, though I would argue that he appeared like that on the front of the package of every Tigatron released at the time so people have long since familiar with that look compared to a figure that the majority of people didn't even know existed until this Tarantulas repaint happened. But not the other two since Sandstorm and Shadow Panther are both based on figures that were made and sold so it would be odd to change those now. Shadow Panther even got an MP.

And again you need to be corrected that the new Tarantulas is using the ROBOT face, not the mutant mask that was used in the cartoon.

The design for "Orange" Tarantulas was set by the bio art. A redeco of Legacy Tarantulas would have been cheaper and more faithful than what they chose to do.

How would it have been cheaper? The head sculpt is already part of the mold, all modern Transformers have multiple head sculpts built into the mold for potential future use and using them has no affect on the price.

No, that's backwards. The toy was made first, so the bio art was based on it. The orange plastic was changed to purple after the bio art was based on the pre-purple orange version, just as Tigatron's bio art was based on the orange version of his toy before it was likewise changed from orange to cream white.

But not the other two since Sandstorm and Shadow Panther are both based on figures that were made and sold so it would be odd to change those now. Shadow Panther even got an MP.

The point alludes you. These redecos have been packaged with the Mutant Mask as the default face.

Case in point:

TFWiki wrote:A retooling of Kingdom "Predacon Scorponok" featuring a different head based on the original toy's "mutant head,"

TFWiki wrote:"Mutant Tigatron" is a redeco and retool of the above Voyager Class Tigatron. He features a new head emulating the mutant head of the original toy

TFWiki wrote:Part of the fourth wave of Kingdom Deluxe Class toys, Shadow Panther is a retool of Cheetor from the same line, with a new head based on the original figure's mutant head.

As far as MP Shadow Panther, yes I know it exists. I own it.

Yeah, it sure does look like it.
TFWiki wrote:"Beast Wars Universe Tarantulas" is a redeco and new-head retool of the aforementioned Legacy figure, in a primarily orange color scheme inspired by the prototype deco for the original 1996 Tarantulas toy. The figure's new head is based on the original Tarantulas mold's non-mutant robot face

That's me corrected. Otherwise it would be quite embarrassing. :P

But you're making the wrong point since, like you quoted from TFWiki below, it isn't a mutant mask. There are no official images of what that figure's robot face would have looked like, but the unpainted prototype that Sabr posted did have a purple face so it makes some sense to base it on the 10th Anniversary face which also had a purple face plate and a more complete deco. Saying this figure should have an all silver face because the mutant mask was all silver isn't supported by anything. Shadow Panther's bot head isn't silver, Mutant Tigatron's bot head isn't turquoise, Sandstorm's bot face isn't sandy and the original Tarantulas' face was also pretty colorful. But I'm actually doubting that's the original head that goes with that figure since retail figure had a clear purple face molded from the rest of the clear purple parts so this figure should really have an orange face. But my point still stand, we know what both faces of the above figures look like, we don't know 100% what the bot face on the orange figure would have looked like, it could be anything, they chose to go with something we've seen before.

As far as MP Shadow Panther, yes I know it exists. I own it.

Then you should know better.

Did I really have to say the orange one when I talked about the NEW figure to differentiate it from the one release 2 years ago that we aren't even talking about? Seriously? Also TFWiki is using "retool" to mean it's different from the original release, we all do it. More accurately it's an alternate tool.
