Say what you want about either site, at least their news is fast and actually acknowledge the existence of other countries in their sightings.

Plus it's easy to avoid the toxicity, just follow them all on Twitter, unless you want to actually engage with other "fans", in which case, that's on you.

I would say that Seibertron has faster/more comprehensive news than Allspark, plus I don't use Twitter. I do, however, access a Facebook group and a few YouTube channels that seems to have been before TFW or other sites.

I never would have said it, but here's a staff member calling it like it is. Still I find seibertron to be the more civil community, even if it isn't the fastest with breaking news. I'm not a member of any major social media platform. So aside from YouTube there are 3 sites I get most news from, but this is the only one I ever converse with fans in.

I'm not staff, the title is the by-product of a broken forum system.

I get a lot of people don't go with social media, and I don't blame them. I found my way onto Twitter a while back because of it's less restrictive nature, and when I began to become disgruntled with the community on this site, the fandom as a whole, and my journey with Transformers, I took a step back and for a few months stayed out of things, but then starting following a few TF related people and pages on Twitter and I found myself reconnecting.

I think it's because Twitter appeals to an older demographic so I found myself interacting with people who are more on my wavelength and thus I'm able to engage with them on a better level than I was doing on this site.

Everyone's going to experience the toxicity of the fandom, they just have to find the place where they'll fit in and that will lessen the negativity.

Precisely. And regardless of what social media platform one uses, all roads lead to Rome, as the saying goes. As long as you're any part of the fandom, its positives and negatives will reach you.

That is true. However (and I may have a wrong perception about this). It seems to be that while on Twitter, or FB, or whatever, while there may be dozens to hundreds of voices harassing you if you say the wrong thing. Here at least, if I get frustrated, or in an argument (which I really try not to do anymore, its so self destructive), its maybe only with one or two persons. I can go away for a few days, let things blow over, cool off and then start back up again in a more civil way. But on larger platforms, things don't seem to "go away" so quickly. Or at least that is the perception... I've never registered on one so I wouldn't know first hand, only what others tell me.

Conversations move faster on social media due to there being more posts. Whereas this place, because the number of people actually engaging in the forums is quite small, the conversation moves slower so it does take longer for things to "move on".

Forums like this tend to be more regulated, while Facebook and Twitter are like the old lawless Wild West. Anyone can say whatever they want without (immediate) consequence, not to mention too many people wanting to acquire status by doing and saying the most ridiculous things. >:oP

Toxic.. Uh.. Not compared to other fandoms, being an ex 501st Legion member I can tell you that was a toxic group especially on the local levels not to mention the other fan groups.
I did the convention scene for 13 years straight and have run into a lot of people and this is my observations (not opinions but what I have observed)

Star Wars.. Don't even get me started on these fanboys. Most whine about what they want and then when they get it they critique it to death.
Star Trek.. Another one except these always seem to want to outdo every other group and use "the prime directive" or "logic" into their arguments (these also seem to be the most "snooty").
Marvel/DC fans.. Honestly lately these have been some of the absolute worst to observe. I have left theaters and watched yelling matches over movie critiques..

Most fanboys seem to want want want then when they are given the best that can be given they are still not satisfied.

Now collectors... Lately the Gi Joe guys are absolute A-holes, some stooping to actually pay employees to pull or hold cases for them, THEN they turn around and sell/trade the extras (trading isn't as bad as reselling over retail prices IMHO). I know people at two of the local targets and they have told me quite a few things that local collectors have done recently.

Creepy Hot-Wheels guys. These guys come in and stare at you like you are going to steal the food off their plates then watch what you are looking at so they don't feel threatened that you will buy their precious cars..

I am the type of collector and fan that is just glad he is being given an option to purchase the things I love be it TF's, Joes, MOTU, etc.. They could have easily not continued the way that they have on a lot of these toy lines but they have because they know that WE will buy them up.

Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.

Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.

I was going to say something about how people who use forums are of an older generation and are used to moderation.

And then I witnessed the latest interaction on the Seibertron Facebook page from one of PVP's haters and holy **** ... wild west is an understatement.

I think I encountered one of these guys once. I happened to be at Target in one of the shopping centres and happened to wander into the Hot Wheels section to have a look (I grab one or two once a year if I like them) and dude comes along, giving me side eye, starts grabbing the ones he wants.

Thought nothing of it. Left Target, went to Big W, again wandered into the Hot Wheels area, dude comes wandering along again and starts snapping things up. I was actually holding onto a couple of cars that were released to commemorate the Olympics and was looking to see if the complete set was there, decided not to waste my money and put them back, he swooped on them.

I wouldn't have thought that he would be indicative of the Hot Wheels collectors though!

 . I've encountered older "hotwheels guys" before. I figure that is exactly where I'll be in 10-15 years with Transformers. Though the guys I see look pretty harmless, as I'm ducking into the aisle with the Transformers, they go to the aisle or two over, its all good.

As for Star Wars... I don't know how to gauge my fandom. I love the OT. I have ALL 11 films on some sort of physical media (despite not liking the Sequel Trilogy). I read most of the EU novels until Disney said its no longer canon, and YES that did piss me off! I enjoy all of Dave Filoni's work on Clone Wars, & Rebels. I've enjoyed The Mandalorian and Boba Fett (so far).

Also in terms of what fans want...I am disappointed to a point, with Disney sure. However...Luke's appearance a the end of Mandalorian S2 was exactly what I always wanted. Exactly how I envisioned Luke in most of the EU novels Post RotJ. There was no critique from me, just celebration. So I continue to enjoy the parts of SW that really appeal to me, and not try to focus on the negative. I hope that makes me somewhat better than some of the SW fans on larger social media platforms. ;)

Star Trek- I own all the films on physical Media, but I don't care enough to engage with anyone about whatever is current. If I ever want a Trek fix, I pop on one of the films, and I'm fine.

Marvel/MCU- Endgame was a great ending. I don't need anymore. If fans like the new films/TV great. I don't need to watch them, but I can always go back and watch the films I enjoyed. What Marvel really needs to do is reestablish a decent presence in animation. Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes was the last great series Marvel made, and that ended over a decade ago. Marvel animation for the last 10 years has gone from "pale MCU imitations", to just plain garbage, or aimed specifically at girls or very Yong kids (3 and under).

I'm not saying Marvel needs to go R rated like DC has done on their animated films, but a good PG level animated series that kids from age 8 to adults can enjoy would be nice.

I personally wanted to do more, but I was getting burned out, and in a way am still burned out some by TFs. I can send news to the site, but I am on here maybe twice a week at most and again, burnout, especially with the primary toy lines, the fun stuff is the stuff that is never newsed or is in the minority now.

This thread has been an interesting read since its been resurrected

My ten cents on the matter is pretty much in line with what yall have said already, anything that a large group of people can be a fan of or invested in will have some fruits mixed in. (shrug) Just be how it is. Overall I can say Seibertron is a pretty friendly place, at least enough where I felt comfortable making an account and contributing to discussion. The only first hand toxicity in my experience here has been people *really* butting in to immediately say a toy i was hyping up or happy with was terrible bad bad and no good with a smile emote at the end

I'll be honest, I have been part of lots of fandoms and find the transformers one to be the least toxic.
It's nothing like Star Wars or Marvel.
Or He-Man.
But that's for the fiction. Unlike that kind of fiction, I think TF media is held to a lower standard. The general population know what they are getting into. There was definitely some toxicity (or what would appear to be toxicity) with the comic stuff, but that's due to some big cultural differences in the world at the moment, so I understand perspectives.

I admit what I will say sounds overly naive, but I do still think to this day that it's just a mistake and no ill will is meant (though it is not a good look either way).

By the way, and this is for anyone reading, I try very hard to be timely for the bigger news that most people are concerned with. Re: The Transformers Fandom and its Toxicity

Postby MaximalNui » Fri Feb 11, 2022 4:44 pm

To be frank, the supposed toxicity of TF fandom is one of the many reasons it took me so long to join a web forum. For a long time, it seemed the first reaction to any bit of news was to declare it the worst thing ever or lengthy discussions and disagreements. Since joining, I've found that everyone is actually quite civil.

As long as certain flame-baity topics aren't mentioned, that is.

Honestly, the greatest example of toxicity I've noticed recently was, oddly enough, LEGO. About a year ago there was a fan vote on the set to celebrate the company's 90th anniversary (it should be announced any day now): for the first round, we should choose one to three of several classic themes from the franchise's history, and then vote on the three winners for the second round. But the moment BIONICLE began to gain traction, we constraction fans were immediately assaulted by several System-only fans, claiming that BIONICLE wasn't "true" LEGO, that we were using bots to win the vote (not unlike some people accuse fan votes in Transformers of being rigged  ), making videos and comments asking people not to vote on BIONICLE or that BIONICLE sucks, and one Youtuber in particular blamed us for the recent reboot failing (when apparently the marketing was so bad some fans weren't even aware the line was back :BOOM: ). Meanwhile, a lot of constraction fans retaliated in pretty much the same manner, and soon the same kind of "this theme I don't like sucks and should't win and everyone who likes it is stupid" spread to other themes.

I like Lego too (I even built a model or 2 on the LDD), but not the shenanigans that toxic side is evidently trying to pull.

Frankly, I don't interact much with the TF community at large. I stay on this site, and I've found it to be an incredibly civil and laid-back place. Speaking as someone who's only been a member for two or three years, I can confidently say that this website is a safe space for me. I've only ever gotten into one big argument, and that was when I was younger and stupider.

All this is to say that I don't know much about the overall TF community, but I know that the folks here at Seibertron are nice people who are happy to welcome new members.

if i had to peg anything truly toxic in this fandom its how lately thanks to the vocal minority all we get anymore is constant reiterations of the same flat nose optimus etc bowing down to the sacred toy commercial to the point where designs that werent meant for that aesthetic are being assimilated into it lest that minority start pitching a big fit its so bad that aside from a few exceptions im only willing to go bw to hftd in my collection just so i can get that different look fix bearing in mind gps and clear plastic issues (looking at you transmetal megs and animated swindle) i only hope that one day we'll finally get a break from the now nearly 17 year long g1 recycling and shelf domination
If enjoying when toys were fun is a sin consider me the biggest sinner of all time

Same, luckily we do get that output in the other cartoon lines where the designers are given more freedom. At least Generations is going down more non-G1 rabbit holes with picks. Though I'm a filthy heretic and long for no G1 elements in the Generations line (name slaps are fine)
