Do you collect other toys besides Transformers? Fans seem to agree that the Hasbro toys are a step up from Bandai's offerings. One main point of interest is that the steroid use has gone down to zero: no more exaggerated muscles or features.

Having been watching Super Sentai for many years now, i can't get over how unimaginative PR is with the naming of things. "cruise beast bot", "smash beast bot". Seriously?

@ W-J: I don't know how they do things in the PR series, but in Go-Busters these guys, the Buddyroids (chida nick, gorisaki banana and usada lettuce) are not just robotic friends and assistants to the heroes, they also function as control mechanisms for the giant mecha, their actual heads ending up in the cockpit, so gorisaki's steering wheel face IS the actual steering wheel for the GT-02 (Gorilla Truck)

That's how Power Rangers Beast Morphers is doing it too. They kept the Buddyroids (renamed "Beastbots") serving as the zord cockpit controls. "Cruise" and "Smash" are simply the names of them in this version, with the yellow one named "Jax".

What I noticed is that it seems full on production came before hasbro acually aquired the rights to the brand itself since the Saban name is all over the toys. The figures look better than anything Bandai of America ever did. they look tempting and more worth it than previous efforts. plus its super cool that they each come with an activation key (you had to buy those seperately before URGH!)

I did see some Bots though at Walmart. one is a gorilla bot with a steering wheel face (cool design), dont know what it does. the other is a red robot which transforms into a motorcyle. However, it is a 100% partsformer, which is too bad.

Has anyone seen what the actual zords will look like? This is the first Power Rangers show I have been into, and it's a darn good adaptation of GoBusters. I have the original toy from GoBusters I may have to post some pics later. My wife is enjoying it too but she still prefers GoBusters and she'll sing the theme from it sometimes.

The zords have yet to be revealed (as far as I know).
And Sabr, are we 100% sure that in the toyline, these two bots pictured above will interact with the larger bots?

Most likely not. These two particular ones look to be scaled to interact with the toys of the Rangers themselves, rather than with the zord toys since the Beastbots themselves are human-scaled bots in the show.

Personally I'm really curious about how Hasbro is handling the Morpher toys. US toys were a real miss at times when it came to that.

There were only 5 in GoBusters. Now i't possible what they might do is use the 6th Ranger (supposed) from the GoBusters movie. Since the theme for GoBusters was originally about espionage, in the movie they did a "what if" and they used the beast motif sort of a Gekiranger/Jungle Fury style change, and the 6th ranger was the Green Frog zord. techincally it's a "what if" so maybe they just might use it. That would be interesting as in the actual series there was red, blue, yellow, silver and gold.

So thery are pulling a Bandai after Jungle Fury where they shrunk the toys for the US Market (again). I'll stick with the Sentai versions. It's a unique zord that I am fond of as well as my complete Boukenger mech set and my SoC stuff. At least the legs aren't off putting like the Sentai version it took a while to get used to.

Good to see that Hasbro is releasing proper Zord toys for this line. And they look alright. Smaller and not as well painted, but they look to retain the articulation. They're not gimped like, say, the poor BoA Samurai Zords were.

I finally gave up on my years-long on-off project to overhaul those this year... I'll go back and finish a few of the mods some day, but the grand revamp just isn't gonna happen. It's too much... So this year I gave up on it and started buying the Shinkenger mecha. I now have all but the Shark Zord/"Kyoryu" Origami and Lightzord/DaiGoyo. Makes a huge difference, glad I finally did it.
Image

Speaking of the "Kyoryu" Origami, Bandai really needs to do an Artisan version of that. But instead of a retool like the other Artisan mecha toys, it needs to be a new mold that's actually suitable as a weapon for Shinken-Oh. Between the disk and also being a roleplay toy, the original is perforce too big for Shinken-Oh to do anything but pose with it like it's a really big trophy fish. Hence the need for a new mold.

I got the US Samurai Megazord (anniversary gift from a friend) and the Samurai Battlewing guys, and I fully agree with you there, especially considering the latter's size and the Ape's lack of an Emblem Mode. Yet, I still want the Clawzord and "Octo"zord (it's a SQUID!) just to complete the Claw Armor Megazord and Battle Cannon.

To Bandai of America's credit, they did good with the "Shark" (Dino, guys...), so...

The Beast Morpher mecha though, I just have a problem with the Racer's feet and Gorilla's body. Not so much with the name for the "Mantis" (it's a Beetle!).

Fair warning: The BoA Battle Cannon sucks thanks to a combination of the armament Zords getting shrunk more than the Samurai Megazord zords, and the Samurai Megazord having long thighs that make it the same height as Shinken-Oh despite the shrinkage. Behold:
Image
You'll have to stand it on the tentacle tips to get it even near the proper height.

Regarding the"Octo"zord being called that, I blame Nickelodeon. I have a suspicion the buttfaced higher-ups at Nick said that only one show on their network gets to call things squid. Or maybe Saban was making fun of how Squidward looks more like an octopus.

The Shark Zord rename, I'm fine with. I thought the "Kyoryu" Origami looked more like an elongated shark thing with legs than it did a dinosaur when I first saw it, and I still do.
And even if you want to call it a dinosaur IT IS CERTAINLY NOT A T. REX AND THE IDIOT WRITER, DIRECTOR, AND EDITOR FOR SUPER HERO TAISEN Z NEED TO BE FLOGGED FOR TRYING TO PASS IT OFF AS ONE. :-x   :BOOM:

About the height of a short Deluxe, with the tentacles flat. About 1.5-2" taller with them folded under all the way like that, IIRC. It's sad. Compare the BoJ version.

If you've seen the DX Kiramazin... the smaller version blows the design right out the water. The added (optional) articulation in spots deemed impossible, especially on the Sky Mage (forward arm articulation?!), wow  The larger head does wonders for sense of proportions too.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

That's often the case with the Super Minipla.

Mind you, those kits have massive savings on materials, labor, and paint... And their joints don't have to deal with nearly as much weight. The DX ones could still do it, I'm sure, but at much greater cost.
WANT:
* Cybertron Galvatron key, missiles
* Omega Lock
* Primus Cyber Key, coattail panel
* Powerlinx Comettor
* Cyb Jetfire R gun and missile

Di Bonaventura is not a credible or trustworthy source. And most fans do like the diversity push, thanks.

Images of Power Rangers Dino Fury Toys

Postby william-james88 » Tue Feb 09, 2021 11:23 pm

Motto: "'till All Are One"
I got these 2 Power Rangers Dino Fury figures from Walmart.ca: https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/power-rang ... 0202673115

For some reason, these are the only 2 they had available. I took some shots for those curious. The Power Rangers Dino Fury Blue Ranger has enough articulation. I would love a hip swivel of some kind but what can you do. Boomtower fares far worse for articulation. His knees bend but that doesnt let you give him any poses since there is 0 outward movement at the hips or the shoulders. I don't have pics of the keys/heads they come with since my 3 year old is sleeping with them tonight. He can't wait for the Fury Zords so he is holding onto their heads like they are made of gold.

An Update on John Warden's Latest Mecha Endeavours at Hasbro

Postby william-james88 » Fri Dec 31, 2021 3:07 pm

Motto: "'till All Are One"
2021 was a big year for Hasbro's mecha toylines. The ever growing Transformers toylines gave us a lot of product (Kingdom, Studio Series, Cyberverse, MP, MPM, Shaterred Glass, Netflix, Buzzworthy Bumblebee, Rescue Bots, Generations Selects, Crossover) and Hasbro finally released the first Power Rangers zords developed under John Warden, the man who got the Transformers brand where it is now. For those curious as to how Hasbro's other transforming/combining robot themed toyline went, we have an update.

For a quick recap of the Power Ranges toyline, when it first got to North American shores, the toys were based on the same toys previously sold in Japan and as time went on, there were more and more differences between the Japanese version of toys (done by Bandai) and the American version (done by Bandai of America). It wasn't like with Transformers where the Takara version would have a slightly different deco, it was far more extensive. For the past 10 years at least, the toys in Japan for the same mecha were bigger and had electronics. To sell at a lower price point, Bandai of America would literally make a new mold, usually smaller and with less parts. There was even one time in Power Rangers Samurai, where the Japanese version of the 5 animal combiner had 3 modes (limb mode, animal mode, and geometric shape mode) and the American version scrapped the shape mode for 4/5 animals, which made it look ridiculous (Japanese on the left, American on the right).

Image

Image

Now when Hasbro bought the brand, they would do the same, remake new molds for their Power Ranger toyline and hired John Warden as the head of the design team to make these new molds. The first toyline fully developed under John Warden was Dino Fury and fans finally got to experience the zords in the later half of 2021.

And it turns out that for the first time in the history of the brand, the American versions are on par with the Japanese version, or even preferred by fans. While still a toyline for kids, Hasbro went for a more collector oriented mindset in what they favoured. It did not have electronics, and the zords are slightly smaller, but they have more articulation than their Japanese counterparts and the main zord has better proportions, a more detailed sculpt and greater show accuracy. Yes, the American version of the toy is more show accurate. It is also more dynamic and works well as a mecha action figure rather than being a brick (which all Power Ranger/Super Sentai mecha were in the past). So congrats to John Warden and his team on that, it is no small feat (Hasbro on the left, Bandai on the right).

Image

Of course, it does help that Hasbro's mecha came out well after the original series aired in Japan, so they could replicate any show detail the original Japanese toys didn't have. Also, Hasbro's combining system for the zords is not as kid friendly as the Japanese version since it requires more force to connect and disconnect. The original Japanese toys had ports similar to lego bricks with similar ease of building but that also means connections on the Hasbro versions are tighter and less likely to undo while posing the figure (something the Japanese toys never had to worry about). So far, 5 zords have been released with more on the way in 2022, and all can combine together in various ways. Below is an example of combining 4 of them together along with using an extra head that comes with the villain action figure.

Image

What does have to do with both is Hasbro upcoming collector oriented Megazord line. This is the stuff of dreams. It's basically Hasbro creating a Masterpiece Megazord line (something similar to Soul of Chogokin) in the west. The price is along those MP level prices of course, being $165 USD for the original Dino Megazord.

Image

This has a lot of fans excited, not just for this release but for what they will do next. Although the fan enthusiasm for the black repaint was not great, since that purchase was behind an NFT wall.

And now you are all caught up.

While John Warden didn't design the mainline MMPR Megazord or the Beast-X Zords, they had some improvements from the Bandai Japan versions with a few hinderences here and there.

Yep, got more articulation and extra pieces which are really nice for making combos. That said, the plastic used is also completely different and very noticeable in hand. And the metallic highlights make it look so much nicer on the shelf. My kids like the Hasbro ones more just because they move around more and have more combos.
Disappointed that they're not doing pachygaroo which is the funnest zord out of the 11.

The samurai turtle zord only got a third mode because all the moving parts were required to do the other two modes.
