So, why not create a CW team of Megatron and his Elite crew?
First, the base toys that I used. Appart Onslaught that must have been bought on eBay (52$CAN shipped for one with no guns... yay!), all of them were bought at my local geek store for around 25$CAN each. He only had those 3 jets and nothing else so the seekers had to be different.
CW Onslaught:
CW Skydive:
CW Blast-Off:
CW Trailbreaker:
PotP Dreadwind:
Here's the team:
Using CW Skydive as a base, he's a simple repaint, enhanced with the Reprolabels for FOC Starscream:
He's a simple repaint of PotP Dreadwind, but with the head severely modified. The bot is enhanced with the Reprolabels for FoC Skywarp.
A simple repaint of CW Blast-Off, enhanced with the Reprolabels for FoC Thundercracker.
This one is CW Trailbreaker, but severely modified. The arms and the truck's front have been completely replaced, as well as the head. The main donors for this new body was the RTS deluxe Lazer Optimus Prime and the deluxe WFC Soundwave. The big gun come from some "Transformers" Marvel's the Thing. The arms come from some Beast Wars bug. As for the stickers, I used some Reprolabels leftovers.
I'd post the bot mode pictures now, but Soundwave's transformation now works differently so I have to put in some instructions for my friend.
First, remove the canon from the top.
For now, separate the front end of the truck:
The legs follow the usual CW transformation, but you'll have to rotate the waist 180°.
The shoulders were at a 45° angle on top. Flatten them straight. Notice that the combiner bar with the head is in the position of one click toward the bottom of the vehicle (or the bot's back).
Rotate the arms up out of the truck's front parts. Then rotate the combiner bar with the head one click up to put the head straight.
Straighten everything.
Flip the shoulders panels in place and put on Soundwave's huge shoulder canon. And DONE!
For Megatron, the goal was to turn him into a tank. That was not easy and I had to go back to the drawing board a few times. The overall shape of the vehicle can't be messed with too much in order to have a functional bot mode and combiner torso. Replacing the wheels with tank threads was not easy because behind those wheels, there's basically no "meat" to screw anything on. I had to jump through some hoops to make everything work. Most of the parts used came from Megatron toys. Notably the Authentic "voyager-ish" Megatron and two scrap classic Megatrons for the threads. The transformation is the same as Onslaught. The only new feature is that I made sure that the tank turret in vehicle mode can rotate a full 360° freely, without being blocked by anything. Finally, some Reprolabels leftovers to complete the look.
Now, before showing the combined mode, here's a group shot of the whole team:
Finally,
I used the head of the original G2 Megatron. If you wondered why Soundwave had that ridiculously huge shoulder canon, it's because it work as Omegatron's arm canon. Soundwave can only be the right arm because of this. As for Skywarp, he too can only be the left arm because his combiner hand goes well with him and the PotP hand do not work at all as a feet. Of course, the combiner have the same problem as all the other CW/PotP combiner, meaning it cannot pose without ragdolling on the floor. Still, the combined mode is imposing, intimidating, and that head work surprisingly well. I painted it black to match the vehicle mode and as a reference to the Marvel's comics G1 Megatron.
This whole team works well in the "Mad-Max" post-apocalyptic universe that I made my friend's, with the Junkion combiner and the Madmaxtron combiner.
What do you guys think?
