Botcon 2006: Remembering Botcon 06'!! Random pics welcome!

Postby TFmaster » Thu Oct 05, 2006 10:34 pm

Let me say that this year was just fuggin' CRAZY man!!!

From after hour Bar parties to the events and people this Botcon was the best Con yet!!

I do feel though, if not for the fans there this Botcon would have been a bust.

The cons of the Con were as follows:

Registration: Waiting in line sucks. Period. I had got blisters from the tip to the heal of my toe. It was ok though. We/I got loud and crazy and at least entertained people visually while we waited.

The lines for all of the Celebs (By TF fan standards): They just sucked too. Peter was only there for one day and one signing session got cut quick after long waits and people missed their chance. 2 items per person per turn and people had to stop and try to talk for countless valuable minutes. Smile, hand him the items and ask then smile say thanks, what you appreciated and get out of the way. Damn! Still. All were great sports and if you got the chance to meet up with them after hours they were usually cool with BS'ing with you. Stop drooling and remember their people too. After hours try and leave the bots behind and bring your true selves to the plate. You'll get their attention more.

The Dinner: There is more then enough people!!! You won't die of hunger! If you see a woman with 2 plates don't assume they are being greedy but thoughtful to getting their children's food for them. Just becaue you are a impatient pig doesn't mean the person beside you is. Manners people. Con people should have handled the lines better.

Except for those tiny problems everything else was fair game. WE had a great time, got to know some TF celebs on personal levels when you remember they too are human, Met some great new people and wasn't afraid to be who I am.

The Artists on all levels, Fan and Comic Pro's alike were just all mind blowing. I don't mind my losses and I'm greatful for my win. There was sooo much more that I took from this weekend then a cash prize and validation from the Botcon Authorities. I have nothing to prove anymore. I love what I have done and I don't really do it for anyone else but me. I try to keep in mind that the judges did the same. It had to touch them personally and I don't need to take it the same way. We each have our own tastes. I appreciate the fandom and the countless ,"You should have.." as well as all the online support. You see it. If it went on merrit alone do you really think that some people wouldn't have numerouse winning entries? You have to give others a chance and next year I hope to do better. The good thing to come out of all this is my wife knowing what it did means to me to get first in one of the cats but it won me her saying, "I'll hold off my next year's vaca pick and we can try again"

I love the support I have got from all of you and to be hounest it means more to me then some silly award and a cash prize that is less then the time, effort, and own money that I have put into it. This is what is valuable to me. You. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and please just congratulate the winners and nothing more. No feelings need to be hurt and in the end the First place Winners really did deserve their Place. That's clearly seen.

So please. Share your stories. Show us your pics and tell us about your weekend because although Botcon isn't till 07' it's actually alot sooner then you planned.

Last but not least, sorry about the lack of quick updates and photo's. Please keep in mind this has been a long week/end for all of us who did attend and we kinda need to replenish. It may have seemed to only feel like it lasted one day but at the end we still felt all 3-4.

Untill next year! Kepp those panties on (Untill I take them off with my teeth) and keep the beer flowing. (I haven't puked my seventh time yet!)

I think you're in the wrong forum, unless you specifically meant to look back at BotCon 2006 from the 2007 forum. (just go with that ;) )

I tried harder this year to socialize, but I still have a long way to go. I'm hoping to go next year and try again.

I'm guessing there was no planned Transtopia gathering? How many users from here met each other? How many of us actually went? AllSpark had a publicly planned meeting. I think it was Friday night at the hotel bar.

I'm thinking I need to talk to more of the fan-artists (and kitbashers/painters). I HAD planned to do that this year but I just didn't make time. I also don't think that many of the artists stick around the art gallery that often... there really should be one or two "meet the artist" sessions when you're more likely to catch them.

Did any of you artists chum up with the comic book artists or Hasbro designers, and talk about interesting artsy things?

I was hanging out with Don and Furman half the time and the other half of the time the other artists. See, we all were able to meet when we set up our entries at the Con. If you didn't have an entry chances are you didn't meet any of us face to face. (Although i read at allspark.com that you met with me for a moment. Sorry, I just don't remember it but then again I was drunk half the weekend.)

But also a good amount of time the "Real" artists like Don and whatnot were also busy having to promote for their comic company so a good 75% of the time they were with random fans at their booth.

I was thinking of suggesting to Brian Savage that next year we should have a "Meet the Transfandom Sites" pannel where everyone can go and see who the real faces are behind some of the site you guys visit often. Maybe one main Rep for each site or something at a pannel. I dunno but I do feel that there should be more interaction and that way Hasbro also make the sites feel included and an important part of the Fandom.
