Any INHUMANOIDS fans out there ?

Do you collect other toys besides Transformers? Maybe you've got a Masters of the Universe collection you'd like to show off, or maybe you like Thundercats, Voltron, G.I.Joe, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Wrestling, or any of the various comic book toy lines. Please keep the discussions here to non-Transformers toy lines.

Any INHUMANOIDS fans out there ?

Postby Lord Manhammer '74 » Tue Sep 20, 2011 6:57 pm

Along with G.I. JOEand the TRANSFORMERSin what was I thought was a golden age of kids entertainment was another Hasbro created toyline called the INHUMANOIDS. As one fan of the property described the line was ,"Imagine H.P. Lovecraft doing children's programming." :-?
Image
The show was a little different first off with the villains of the show, the monstrous Inhumanoids getting top billing. The heroes of the show were the Earth Corp. A group explorers who utilized high tech vehicles and armor to aid their explorations of the world beneath the Earth, and deal with the Inhumanoids.
For a quick bit of who's who and what's that of the world of the Inhumanoids check out this bit from Cinemassacre.com, courtesy of the Angry Video Game Nerd.
http://www.spike.com/video-clips/slnduh/cinemassacre-inhumanoids
Also, with him making a return to the Transformers in the TFCC Club Magazine story's opening chapter, and one of IDW's post-ChaosTF books. It's fitting that one of the Inhumanoids developers, Flint Dille, talk about the genesis, and all too soon downfall. :( http://inhumanoids.deviantart.com

As this thread hopefully progresses I'll be updating with some more material as it goes on.

Inhumanoids are all kinds of awesome. I managed to find a VHS tape at Goodwill a while back.
I want to get around to getting the major baddies.

There were plans for the Inhumanoidsline to initially continue another year, unfortunately Hasbro pulled the plug on the continuing adventures of the Evil That Lies Within. :-x But in my years of perusing the world wide web I found a few things showing what was in the cards for the second line of franchise. Some which will not be much of a surprise if you followed the animated series.

The first is a cardback for the figure of the evil Blackthorne Shore's frequent collaborator, Dr. Herman Meangler,a.k.a. Dr. Nightcrawler.
http://actionfiguresca.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=Cartoons&thread=130&page=2 This cardback made the rounds at the toy trade shows shortly before it Hasbro ended it.

The next thing items of interest come from Richard Marcej's My Artwork & Designs At HASBRO:1983-89. Which contains quite a booty of sketches ,and models to his works done for Hasbro. One of the two sketches that might be of interest is on the book's cover is Metlar's former master, Ssslither, in living color.http://www.baboonbooks.com/Comics_Books/Hasbro%20Art%20Book/HAS_preview.htm
Finally, here's a look at the interior of the book featuring two concept sketches featuring the second line's new Inhumanoids. The first is Ssslither, and a photo of a model of what the figure would've looked like had it hit the stores. Then the second , from the the episodes, Negative Polarities and The Evil Eye, the gruesome Gagoyle.

Forgot about this being here :BANG_HEAD:

Would be cool to see an update to Inhumanoids or reruns on Qubo night owl :michaelbay: .

I picked up a Tendril back in Nov or Dec last year
his two orange tendrils are broken, but he was only $5.00

I had the D'compose guy when I was a kid...he made an awesome "boss" for my other action figures to fight against...especially when he was waging one-monster assualts on Castle Greyskull (to be defeated by the combined might of He-Man and the Ninja Turtles :-P)

Would be cool to see a modern-day update on these guys...especially with better articulation and molding.

Awecool I really liked that show when I was a kid....

I had a few of those toys... Tendril, and then the magma brothers, and the tree toy.... kinda hard to collect them all as a kid when all the evil dudes are huge an expensive though....

I went back and found some vids of the show online and doesn't hold up as much as good as G1 Transformers though....

I loved em i had a couple figures i always wanted D-Compose. I could'nt remember what the line was called years back when i started a 80's toy shelf collection. I have a MISB Redlen figure the box is banged up but nice to display. I ended up getting the Totally 80's Tubular Toys book it has a bunch of toys from the 80's i use it as one of my references. I would like to get the Inhumanoids cartoon. :D

Glad You guys like it !!

I designed most of the figure line - I designed it about 3 years out, the crazy stuff never came out - in year 3 the guys dug so deep into the earth that they made their way to hell and discover a devil character :(

Interesting, I always thought that Metlar was supposedly the line's version of the Devil. And I'm surprised one could dig lower than the center of the Earth. Series showrunner, Flint Dille, had said in an interview in issue eight of Cereal Geek that he had a couple scripts for the Season 2 that never happened, and they were lying around his residence somewhere. I wish Shout Factory would release the complete series on DVD/Blu-Ray. Honestly, a revival I'd think would work out. This Christmas I got the Undead Horror himself. My seven year old step-niece wanted to take it home with her. Later she chased me around the house with it trying to change me into a zombie. On a later visit, my second cousin's middle child tries sneaking off with D-Compose. The kids would love the line to no end. :KREMZEEK:

Metlar was just a big (the leader) Monster, infact I designed him to be a monster version of John Madden, the football guy - check out his face compared to Metlars. http://ecelebrityfacts.com/Celebrity-Ne ... worth.html
The devil character I designed was about the size of the scientist. Going lower then the center is possible - It's a state of mind not distance.

I'd be remiss in not asking as being the uber-Inhumanoids fan that I am, do you still have any of those sketches of characters from the series that sadly didn't see the light day ? And I have to ask was this devil guy  supposed to be in the world of the INHUMANOIDS what the Quintessons were in the G1 Transformers, and even Cobra-La was to COBRA ? Maybe Metlar, and the others' creator ? Also as soon as I saw Dr. Mangler/Nightcrawler introduced I was expecting him ,and Blackthorne Shore to be coming up with their own monsters. But with the series' end we didn't get to see any of Nightcralwer's creations. Were there any of those in the works ? :HEADHURTS:

Sure.... uber-Inhumanoids fan -....... I have lots of stuff, I'll go through it today and try to upload some to this sight.

The way stories developed in the 80's for these kind of shows was very loose. I (the designer) of the toys came up with the basic story idea which was roughly based on an inventor submission. I would lead the story with character development, - Designing characters, all their names and bio's, I would also lead the process as to where they fit in the story and then feed this info to the guys doing the cartoon and comic book so that they could write the story around them. The place were Nightcrawler is from Springfield, MA, is where my family and inlaws live. Once the storyline got ahead of my character development and the show creators put Blackthorne in a robotic suit. I told them I had his suit coming - so I remember him saying in one show "I'll have more power when I get my new suit". I think? there were a few shows that had him in that new suit. Nowadays this whole process of toy to show is much more complicated, my current company does a lot of this type of development and it's much more team designed then in the 80's without the designer having much control over storyline.

Thank you sir. Interesting to see Blackthorne, Sabrejet, and Tank brought to reality in the form of plastic. I like the one stage of Blackthorne's design where he looks like the Black Knight with the flag behind him. And I'm guessing that gent at the bottom right corner is either that Devil character you mentioned, or one of Nightcrawler's creations ? A fun line that died way too soon.

Anywho, Flint Dille mentioned once in an interview that Hasbro was looking at reviving the Inhumanoids under a different name. Back in 2011, Hasbro released a book at the New York Comic Con entitled UNIT:E. Featuring a number of Hasbro properties, including one featuring some monster sized creatures from a line called PRIMORDIA.

Might've been interesting to have Metlar and company to have some foes on their own scale in the long run ?

Love those characters. The Devil and Brain-Man have a rather neat-o John Carpenter's THE THING vibe to them. With a hint of the style flick's storyboard artist, Mike Ploog. Who did the artwork on some of Marvel's classic creature books, Werewolf By Night, The Man-Thing, and Monster of Frankenstein.

Damn, the Gagoyle model is quite hideous. In a good way. =P~ Would've been cool to have that on my shelf. Especially if it had that see through stomach that was featured in the episode. I take it that saddled creature with Nightcrawler was something he'd be riding around on. I have to ask, whose the pyramid headed fellow is supposed to be ? One of the Granites. But it looks like it had some kind of prison. jail cell in its chest.
