I'm not entirely sure its that much deeper, the Hasbro looksa little overexposed in comparison.. Until we see them side by side in the same photo it'll be tough to tell. They do look nice though

Good idea, definitely will wait until a pic of both side by side gets posted to see. I still want a Magnus with a core figure though...

Well, damn. The differences between Takara and Hasbro are significant. Way more colors for Takara. Thanks to you, I pre-ordered my Magnus from Amiami.

Thanks for the response on the comic source.
And I wouldn't be too quick to judge the colors with images uploaded. Actual colors and the pictures are more often than not miles apart in difference.

Um, You can? The leader class Ultra Magnus and the Voyager class Cyclonus should be within close enough scale for them to battle, right?

I was afraid of that. Takara's does seem to have a much better color blue. It's again weird, as Takara is giving us a very faithful IDW version of Magnus in terms of color layout, but Hasbro's blues and reds and closer to what is actually seen in print, but foregoing or rearranging some of the details that the Takara version meticulously replicated. I like the deeper blue for a more G1 screen accurate match. Unfortunately, the whites of both don't seem to match up, with Hasbro having an off white versus Takara's true white. Worse, I don't think a thigh swap will be possible. Looks like the assembly is mostly pins and not screws. I'd love to see some comparison shots so we can see both in the same lighting conditions, but those are probably months out. I'm going to get the Hasbro version for sure, for Minimus Ambus, but it looks like I'll need to get Takara's too, despite the red thighs (again, I prefer the white for G1 cartoon accuracy). I'll keep the Takara version on pre-order at least until I see some good comparison shots with the Hasbro version, but in all likelihood, I will end up getting both versions in the end. Damn you, Has-Tak, from the bottom of my wallet!

Despite the red thighs. Looking at both toys, The Hasbro version looks like a cheap KO.
Don't think red thighs is that big of a deal. Noticed 2000 God Magnus toy had blue thighs.
The 1986 Ultra Magnus toy had red thighs.
Like the White guns, yellow details and other added details on the Takara version.
Don't like the dark burgandy red, prefer it was a lighter, brighter red.
Will be buying the Hasbro version. Don't love the sculpt enough to spend Takara import prices for it. Hasbro colors are not bad enough to warrant buying a Takara version.

Not that I'm getting either one, since my G1 collection is all scaled to MP-10 as the size standard, and I've already got MP Magnus.

Maybe a Third party can also create height add on shoes or replacement longer thighs. To make CW Leader Ultra magnus the same robot height as MP-10. So some fans can get the cartoon height of Optimus and Ultra Magnus.

This CW Leader is shorter than MP-10?

I agree a bit with Tsu in a way that Hasbro UM have a million details that are unpainted. I don't really care about red or white thighs nor the differences of shades of the main 3 colors. No, what I dotice is all the fine detailings are painted on the Takara one, while the Hasbro remain plain. Even the tire rims are painted on Takara but left blank on Hasbro! I also don't really care about minimus as a character himself. Poor Hasbro minibot look like he barfed on himself, while Takara's Alpha Trion is full of colors.
FOR THE SAME BASIC RETAIL PRICE!
This is defenitely not a case of Megatrons G1 here. Takara win hands down.

Even if he IS as tall as MP-10 (not saying he is, though), Magnus needs to actually be taller than Optimus, not just the same height.

IDW Magnus simply wouldn't be able to deal with that.
So it's nice that the IDW accurate takara one changed them to symmetrical shoulder tampos.
Still thinking that I'll roll with the Hasbro version though, as it's closer to the G1 movie deco. I can always colour match the blue and add a few paint touch ups myself. Those deep red thighs hold no allure for me.

Sculpt, engineering, and articulation are important, but moot for MP purposes if they're not G1-enough.
