No, but it is nice to see they want Cullen back without question. The fact that they told with to clear his calendar for next year speaks volumes, IMO.

So if they start production in 2008, does that mean we should expect the sequel by 2010?

I would guess sooner then 2010. Two years between movies sounds better.

It has also been reported that Jerry Bruckheimer wants Bay to direct his Prince of Persia movie which is already in pre-production, so I would imagine that we won't see a new TF movie until at least 2010.

I'm going to say this now, because I have a strong feeling about this. IF Transformers does more then 600 million worldwide( Not unbeleivable considering what the other blockbusters have done), Dreamworks and Speilberg will want to start the sequel ASAP. And Since Speilberg seems to be completly sold on Bay as director, expect him to do what Raimi did with Spiderman. I say a Sequel before 2010, maybe summer 2009. This movie is going to be huge, my prediction is 800+ million world wide by the time its all said and done.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Van Helsing type numbers. Strong opening, lots of hype about a "Trilogy" and then when the next weekend drop off kicks in, (could be as much as 60%) eveyone involved gets quiet, and the sequel puffs off to no where.

Aside from Transfans, this film really isn't high on anyone's list. People will go see it- but expect parents to spend their cash on Ratatiulle which opens right before (June 29th). The ever needed child monies will go to the talking rat film- which looks like a lot more fun (and more engaging). Don't forget Die Hard 4 opens that day as well. So between Pixar and Bruce- people will have spent their cash. That combined with the three day slot they've opened before the weekend actually hits will allow critics to circle like carrion birds.

Then it's fast followed by Harry Potter 5. No one's going to see TINO that weekend.

I predict around 120 million for the opening, followed by 30/40 million the next weekend (if that). And then a quick death.

I'm glad to hear this. Of course, I agree with everyone on the 2010 release though.

So Peter has to keep the calander open? What will Disney think since he is contracted to do Eeyore and the only Pooh show that is on is that new CGI show. Unless there is some new Pooh movie (Eeyore needs his own damnit!). But after reading this article I see only positive things. Keep optismic everyone.

The only real surprise is that they have told him to keep next year open, and not the 3 months before the 2nd films release date.

Maybe they learnt from their mistake of doing the Voice Actors recordings so late in the post production stage, and will do it right for the second film.

of course, with a possible sequel, you wonder if it's simply going to be called Transformers 2, or have a subtitle

Curiously enough, the only buzz I've heard go to DH4 is the Snakes on a Plane effect: the desire to see a movie bound to be so terrible that, much like Hollywood's beloved B-movies of olde, cannot help but be entertaining. I do agree on the Pixar bit, though--especially since that flick has been generating a bit of positive attention.

I predict around 120 million for the opening, followed by 30/40 million the next weekend (if that). And then a quick death.

A bit pessimistic, but then again, I think part of what the studio is banking on isn't the fact that this is going to be a family movie, but an action flick. True, the new Harry Potter movie will draw in a hefty audience--and will no doubt take over the #1 slot, regardless of what movie opens the weekend before--but it's almost as though there is such a difference in target audiences that the damage to Transformers won't be as severe as some have made it out to be.

As for the news about Mr. Cullen...it seems like a bit of a mixed blessing. Sure, it's a good sign that he is the Optimus Prime in the eyes of the studio, but on the other hand...guess this means that chances of him doing the big guy's voice on the small screen are a bit slimmer, eh? :-?

WHAAA.... :???: You're not serious, are you? Won best movie you haven't seen at the MTV Movie awards, Always in the top 10 most searched movies on yahoo, hell random non TF/video game/comic sites(like car sites) getting on the bandwagon. How can this not be high on people's lists of must see movies? Hype alone is gonna guaranty at least one sequel.

And to be honest with you, I haven't heard anything near the hype about Ratatullie and Die hard 4 as I've heard for TF, so I gotta disagree with you that those movies don't even come close to being any real competition for TFs. The only movie you mentioned being any real competition is Harry Potter 5, and that has no where near the media attention TFs is getting. Turn on your TV, and you see TFs left and right, and not really much else.

As far as Cullen, not suprised. It makes sense to lock in as much as the original cast for the sequel as possible.

I wish I could agree with you there. In my area, TF has the toy isles and the internet, but forget TV and the movie screens at the moment. I hope this changes in the next week or so.

I'm just glad Peter Cullen is going to be cemented as Optimus Prime's voice, and now, it can't be argued(too much, i'm sure). You want proof? Go listen to the two voice changing helmets side by side, and tell me which voice sounds more like it's comming from a giant robot that turns into a semi. Peter Cullen Forever!!!!!!

It doesn't surpise me that they asked Cullen so quickly to keep his schedule open. If this movie goes the way they want it, then they'll be all over TF2 in a heartbeat. I just want Welker involved this time as Soundwave. And if any of his minions make appearances, that's Welker as well. I would like to see this happen by Summer '09 or at least the Holiday Season '09. I can't wait 3 more years......of course I waited two for this since I saw the trailer at Comic Con '05

Pin number emailed to the Studios for recognition and bankruptcy...LOL

I think that they should film the next 2 movies all at once, similar to pirates and LOTR..
