While the Transformers Studio Series has been hotly anticipated, the initial reactions have been mixed. There are some stellar pieces while also some odd engineering and manufacturing decisions. The biggest ones being the car roof for Bumblebee missing a pin and Blackout's bizarre hand orientation.

So, two in our community came up with fixes which they sent us and we in turn share them with you.

This Bumblebee fix comes from Carnivius_Prime:

Carnivius_Prime wrote:I put a thin layer on the insides of the clear plastic joint (after having removed that whole roof piece from Bee) with just a smidgey bit more on the tiny bumps that supposed to fit into the tiny little gaps of the yellow piece. I let it dry for a while then put it back on and it fit much tighter. Of course a proper pin the way through like you say would have been nice but this seems fixed enough for me.

I even just held him up by the roof and shook him a bit and it's still fine.

This mod for Blackout's hands comes from Hip-Hoptimus Rime

Hip-Hoptimus Rime wrote:
I pulled his hands off and mounted them back on the arm 90degs over. It's not pretty but I think it looks and works better.

I modded them so they are now vertical instead of horizontal, i.e. in a more natural position. They still pivot up and down, but the hand is now vertical. It's not easy to get that wrist pin out, and the end result is not as pretty as I would like (the hands are now visible in alt mode, almost exactly like the Voyager mold), but it works. Once the wrist pin gets pulled, you drill a hole perpendicular to the original hole so it intersects it. It should be near the middle of the cylindrical section, just about in line with the base of the thumb.

You'll need a small screw to secure the hand through the inner pin bracket and the new hole, so the hand pivots on the inside of the space where the hand was originally. This leaves some empty space, which you can fill in by gluing on some little bits of kibble from some other robot or whatnot (I haven't done this yet). There is some minor trimming involved to get the hands to fit nicely in alt mode. You end up with the hands visible, much like the Voyager mold, but they look like helicopter equipment to me.

Interestingly, once you have the hand off, there is another way to mount it so it pivots side to side, instead of up and down. Just drill a hole for a screw in the rear edge of the flat body part of the arm, near the Air Force emblem. Then screw into the hole for the original pin, rather than the new hole (if you've already drilled it).

Found Deluxe wave 1 at Walmart today. Didn't try to buy them so I don't know if they were sticking with the street date or not. Looked like a full case was there.

Probably gonna do that hand trick with Blackout once he comes in, wich I hope is soon, TFSource has yet to say he's shipped yet and I'm guessing he and Grimmy won't ship out till the around the 20th (release of the Takara versions if they can be called that) as for Bee, I'll probably leave him as he is. The roof does't bother me all that much, but that's probably because I leave him in bot mode.

Can someone post a picture of a fixed Blackout in alt mode? I want to see how the hands look in helicopter mode. As for Bumblebee, if a pin was put into one of those hinges, it would have been really fragile on such a small figure. I would rather have the roof pop off instead of it breaking. I'm glad someone found a way to fix these figures' issues( Blackout's hands don't bother me at all though) ;)^

I dont understand why you cant just remove the pins and swap the hands from left to right so they are the other way around? With the toy in hand now, it almost seems like a mass assembly error. Wont they fold in the same upside down? Maybe there will be a 3rd party fix one day for those who dont know how to pop pins. Id be willing to drop up to $30 on some new arms with better hands.

I've got a Grimlock waiting for me at Target, so once I pick him up later today my Studio Series collection will be complete! This is the only line I've wanted to go all-in on this bad in years, and again I'm ridiculously lucky I found Thundercracker.

For my Blackout figure, I chose to keep them horizontal, but swapped the right and left sides and rotated them 180 (those pins were no joke!). I then dremeled inside the arms to allow the hands to fold back up without showing in alt mode.

The hands unfortunately can’t swivel like Hip-Hoptimus’s, but I am very happy with how it looks! I also customized my Scorponok using the legends class figure from the first movie. I just need to figure out how to mod the legs to fold down so it can still store in the helicopter.

I thought it was an assembly error too and figured as well that it’d be an easy fix... then I transformed it after having spent over an hour figuring out how to get those dang pins out. I really didn’t want to dremel it, but I was determined to make this work!

Thanks to Target getting some Studio Series figures in yesterday (finally got Grimlock, which turned out to be the last SS figure they had in the store) and generally getting lucky finding Thundercracker a while ago at ToysRUs, that marks a currently completed Studio Series collection! I have to say how much I love this line so far, aside from a couple fiddly parts and loose/shallow pegs I really can’t find much to complain about. I’ve waited for Blackout for 10 years and wasn’t disappointed, and Grimlock is just a godsend after all his other awful toys. Bring on wave 2!

The hands sticking out in copter mode don't bother me too much, but I would rather have them in their original orientation. It doesn't hurt robot mode too much and copter mode isn't bothered at all. I'm still happy that you guys found a solution to thus though :APPLAUSE: ;)^

A number of Seibertron.com community members - such as westjames/notirish - have been sending us a notification of what appears to be a rumoured new figure in the Transformers Studio Series line - or at least, a new backdrop appearing on the TFCN fan group, and leading to speculation of either a new Megatron or Sentinel Prime figures appearing later in the line, once the current waves are dealt with.

The backdrop appears to depict the Chicago Bridge scene from Dark of the Moon, which features both of the characters, alongside Optimus Prime. As many fans have been asking for a bigger truck Megatron this might be a good outlet, but so far there have been no repeats, so Sentinel may equally be feasible - what do you think? Let us know in the discussion!

A new background for a mystery #StudioSeries figure. This takes place on the Chicago Bridge where Optimus and Sentinel fought, and also looks like the shot where Megatron said “who would you be without me?” Swipe to see each shot. Do you think this will be for Megatron or Sentinel? If they did make Megatron, my guess would be that he would have the desert as his background, but I would love a DOTM Megatron update. Sentinel could also use an update, so it could be him. #TransformersStudioSeries #Megatron #SentinelPrime

Not interested in sentinal prime. I dont think DOTM Megatron needs a new figure personally. Then again I have the nice Takara edition. If its gotta be DOTM, I would much rather see Hatchet or Roadbuster with an armored car mode. It also wouldnt hurt to release Leadfoot for everybody who didnt grab the expensive one or the KO. Also can anyone say deluxe Soundwave? In silver paint of course.

I'd go for either but the speculators are missing something. While it would be ridiculously lazy Optimus was on that bridge as well, an he already has a studio series figure, all they'd need to do was change his abs. Personally I'd expect Sentinel though, because of all 3 members of that fight Optimus and Megatron already have toys in this line, though both have other bodies as well. Something I'd like is a more screen accurate protoform.

A leader DOTM Megatron in scale would be possible. The cab itself of the truck would be the same size as the voyager Optimus cab, not counting the trailer. The trailer would then compact a lot to make DOTM leader Megatron the same size as the "ROTF" voyager Megatron. Sure, it would be a small leader, but it would be the same thing with voyager Optimus. The number of parts and engineering would justify the category and the price.

I'm not so enthused on this one. Sentinel already had a fantastic leader toy and isn't someone I would think is in need of an update. But then again, neither was ROTF Optimus, so I guess having him in scale with the rest of SS is a huge plus for some people. I'm with those that say a SS Soundwave would be a great pick from this movie.

The important thing here is they're continuing the line. Hopefully we get a voyager or leader sized Bonecrusher and some of the other characters who've never had a toy released from this (Leadfoot, Dino, Mercedes Soundwave, Scrapper, take your pick) and it's not just a bunch of new molds of characters we already have tons of toys for (although no doubt we'll get ANOTHER Bumblebee for his new movie, and wouldn't shock me to see a Ratchet repaint to match his DotM color scheme).

We were supposed to get a bumblebee based on his vw beetle alt in the first wave buy then the film was pushed back so they gave us the camero instead with the beetle coming later (along with the rest of the toys to advertise the movie)

So I got Grimlock the other day, and I'm a tad disappointed as well as impressed. This is my first ever movie Grimlock figure, as I positively despise the characters aracter and design from that series. The size and faithfulness to screen design is great, but mine may be a tad loose in spots.

Namely, the underside of the tail doest stay in place, and flops down. I'm hoping I'm doing something wrong, the instructions are that worthless dark print crap. Seriously Hasbro, why must the instructions be worthless?

I'm gonna watch a few youtube videos, see if I can figure it out.

I think that's just how the figure was designed, unfortunately. Mine stays up fairly well but will still flop down, and I've heard a lot of people have the same issue. I don't personally mind it since I'm displaying mine in robot mode but it would've been cool if they'd added some pegs so it could (Grim)lock into place better. The toy is frickin gorgeous either way, I was impressed by the painted detail and that he barely fit in the box!

Walmart Canada now has the entirety of the first wae of Transformers Studio Series available in their stores, including the leader class toys Grimlock and Blackout. The voyagers and deluxes are also present and those two classes can also be purchased on their website. The prices are the new MSRP based on the price jump from the Pemier Edition Transformers: The Last Knight toys, where deluxes are $29.97, voyagers are $39.97 and leaders are $69.97.

These toys are trickling across North America right now, at various retail outlets (Target in the US now has the leaders for instance) and opinions have been mixed but generally more positive than negative. Many wonder if this line will continue and Hasbro already did confirm more toys coming, such as the toys for characters from the upcoming Bumblebee movie that have been pushed to a later release in an attempt to be on shelves closer to the film's release.

Ouch. Are they serious about those prices? Does it really cost them that much extra per unit to get them on the shelves in mass quanity? Or is that just using the economy as an excuse to f**k the general public? Oh well...at least the free health insurance helps build up some extra spending money.

None of it, its just BS. Because the Power of the Primes right next to them are 19.99 for deluxe, 29.99 for voyager and 54.99 for leader. I highly doubt the added production cost of th Studio Series line is 30% more than the cost of the POTP figures. Its just them looking at what they can get away with as a premium price for figures percieved to be premium.

But as you can see with what i describe above, there is still a gap between two lines. The US has that too, I think, but not to this extent. And plus, even though our dollar is worth less, its not like we make more. In nominal value, similar jobs result in similar take home pay between the US and Canada (maybe less in Canada due to added taxes). And we both have dollar stores that sell similar stuff for a dollar or two. Our prices are generally the same, at a nominal level, hence why Americans feel like millionaires when they come here. My dollar may be worth less but I am also paid in this crappy ass dollar, so its not like raising the price to cover change in currency makes any sense when that is all someone has to pay for it. These toys are becoming simply unafordable.

So yeah, that grimlock is pretty cool. I find the articulation a little more limited than I would expect but th deco is nice. I dont get how that tail works though and what I am supposed to do since its made up of 5 pieces and nothing tabs together.

One cool thing though is that in all the images of this toy even in hand images from fellow fans, I never ever realized that his robot hand (and in fact the entire arm) is right there in beast mode for all to see. But I never did. Pretty cool how it just blends in there and is hidden in plain sight. Helps limit the excess kibble. Dont know if this is toy of the year material though.

Yes please.

I am so stoked for a movie generations line, and there are many good things that could come from the line. I want a new Bonecrusher so bad, and a large Demolishor would be awesome too. Imagine, since he doesn't really need to content with feet and he's a small body with wheels and arms, how tall they could make him at leader scale. He could have 1 wheel folded down inside the box if they went that route.

Also just figured out that the AoE Dinobots are not much smaller than Devastator (please give us a toy of him with proper transforming components please!) and Demolishor would be about Grimlock sized at the tops of his wheels

Regarding Grimlock's long soft back flaps (which quite frankly, I dont think were necessary and dont add that much to robot mode), I transformed him according to instructions and they settle just fine even being against gravity.

I do really like how everything is hidden in plain sight.

As for blackout, I expected worse for the panels, ala Sentinel Prime or ROTF Jetfire. This is fine. Its not perfect though, here is what I end up with:

For the most part, my Blackout fits together well. The side panels may take some messing with to tab properly, but once they’re in, they’re pretty much in. There’s only two spots that bug me panel-wise, but I can overlook them, because I’m honestly in love with the bot and alt mode.

8D7851D6-AB69-48B7-A832-39444010CD20.jpeg

There’s a gap here, which is apparently common. It seems that’s just how it is. The right and left joining pieces, for me, fit together terribly. I don’t know if the connectors just suck, but the mechanism keeps separating them. Takes some trying. I did obviously get them together though.

10F15772-C840-4B07-A476-CD04400B6E14.jpeg

It bugged me, at first, that this panel doesn’t go flush with the side of the body, but I think I can overlook it now. Not sure if there’s no clearance for it on the inside, or what.

So it’s not without its issues, but Blackout is definitely my favorite so far from this line. It may actually be my personal favorite figure from the over the last few years.

Since the SS series is quite young ad wont get a top 5 list for a while, I am thinking of doing an article showing their rank. Like Wave 1 from best to worst. But you know what, its kinda tricky. BB is at the end, Grimlock, Starscream and Barricade are in top 3 and the rest is all kind of muddied. Like not really sure who is better between Stinger, Ratchet, Crowbar and Optimus. They are all ok but not phenominal and all have really obvious flaws.

The TFCN Facebook page had a listing for an upcoming Bonecrucher toy but since it was using a placeholder shadow image of the older deluxe toy, we waited until further proof before newsing. Well, it only took one day and now we have proof of an upcoming voyager Bonecrusher as part of the Transformers Studio Series line. Funny enough, he comes to us as one in a pair of new listings with the other new listing being none other than the bot who destroyed him, Optimus Prime. The code is different from the voyager Optimus Prime from wave 1 so it is most probably him in a new body (probably his Transformers The Last Knight body). Or it might just be a redeco of the wave 1 voyager, just as the upcoming Sarscream toy is simply a redeco of the wave 1 voyager.

The info comes to us from Mr Chaos who provided many early codes and listings in the past. This is what he shared on the TFW2005 boards:

TRA MV6 STUDIO SERIES BONECRUSH E3745
UPC 63050976995
PRICE: $29.99

He is listed with a new Optimus listing:

TRA MV6 STUDIO SERIES OPTIMUS E3747
UPC: 63050976996
PRICE $29.99

That’s a really accurate assessment, but I’d say OP is better than just “okay.” Out of all of them, its Blackout, Starscream, and Prime that I keep going back to. He’s a lot of fun to mess with. I’d put his balance and playability above Ratchet, Stinger, and Crowbar. Although Crowbar is definitely a lot of fun.

If they're smart, Hasbro/Takara should just release Battle Blades Optimus Prime again with a premium, screen accurate paint job. That would rock my world. If that were the case, I'd probably bite and start collecting the Studio Series line. Right now, though, the current Studio Series Voyager Optimus is just a complete disappointment. :(

Is he even the right colours? I have lots of problems with this toy (why fake parts on a character full of obvious kibble?!) but the part I find so weird are the colours. I keep having the impression that the red is bright on screen (similar to the ROTF toy) and yet this toy has the red be burgundy. Where does that come from? He looks much much darker, almost as if they are tryingto simulate the lighting filter they use on the character models for a night scene.

Considering things I'd guess the new optimus is a remould of the SS one for the DOTM design (aka 2007/ROTF with new abs)

Please please please please let it be a DOTM Optimus.

I hope this Optimus is either the AoE design, or a recolor of the first Optimus into his DotM color scheme with the yellow and dark blue.

Edit: Seems some others agree with DotM Optimus, lol. I hope he would have the trailer as well, but I think that would only make sense as an exclusive box set or something.

They could put the trailer in but price him as a leader but as it stands I think it's going to be a redco, now the question would be if its display could link with bonecrushers

Question... who is Sarscream? :)

Sweet! I hope Bonecrusher is a bigger (or at least wider) voyager like Starscream, OP was too small IMO.

Guessing the OP is the same mold with the abs from DotM, and possibly different accessories (his three-barreled gun would make sense).
