As you may recall, Siege Crosshairs was releaed with no Targetmaster and one of Hasbro's main designers, Mark Maher, did not want that to repeat for Pointblank. At the same time, they wanted to also give fans a deluxe class figure of similar standards, so that's why below you will see a bunch of notes related tocost when designing a figure. It's interesting to see that the designer wanted to ensure a strong hinge for the clear plastic cockpit, so wrist articulation was removed in favour of that. Hasbro is sparing nosecrets from us here and you can see how everything was decided to bring you the toy you'll get.

One very interesting note is that the person who designed the transformation is Shogo Hasui, the same legendary designer who gave us MP-10, MP Sideswipe, CW Devastator, HFTD Starscream, Prime Starscream and even the classics seeker mold. It was his idea to give Pointblank his comic head rather than his Headmasters head. So if you don't like the final resulting headsculpt, you can blame Takara. The full post is after these images.

"Deluxe Legacy Pointblank and his Targetmaster Peacemaker are finally here to hop into your collection! . Had to break out my mint Crosshairs to showcase how both of these bots looked together.

I had the pleasure of doing the deco for Crosshairs and I was kinda bummed I wasn’t able to get Pinpointer in there. This time around since I lead the design of this guy I thought it was essential to add in Peacemaker. I soon realized how cost challenging it was to include a target master at a Deluxe scale and pricepoint. . The first image is my own redraw concept art of Pointblank and Peacemaker. Ive been really using alot of reference art that everyone already knows and loves, especially with tight schedules, they seem to be great for kicking off the project. You can see the reuse of the comics art alt mode here was perfect to use. I absolutely love this rendition of his cybertronian race car alt mode.

Hasui san took the reigns and made the great suggestion of doing the fin styled head that was never made in toyform. Anything that is in the g1 cartoon is a go for me even if its from the later seasons. . You can see an additional weapon engine accessory was costed out along with a bunch of other comments made to fine tune this guy. Hasui really had so many tweaks in order to fix up this guy, I just couldn’t find a way to showcase them all here. I added my comments to ensure we were aligned on trying to make this the best version of Pointblank ever.

You can see the targetmaster is blast effect compatible. There is elbow swivel on Pointblank for those that have been asking, but the articulation range on this guy really gives you a plethora of posing options and is really fun to tinker with. The arm transformation was a treat and I can’t wait for yall to get these guys!

Have a great weekend and thank you all for bringing your passion and support to the Transformers universe!"

$8.49 at Target last night. Pulled him straight out of the case with Wheelie. One of his blasters fell out of the package when I pulled it out. Probably not the smartest packaging ever.

Can't wait to get Rumble in hand, sure Frenzy will be great.
Maybe we will get a solid Eject here?
WFC Ravage was trash, I hope we get a better one in 86
We might get a new Lazerbeak, but the earthrise/siege is good enough I think.

Now, this makes me think that a redeco with a different head will be released in future.
Hasbro has used this tactic many times.

Buy this thinking that it will be the only one but nope, here comes another one.

Then for some reason, this will be the rarer variant in a more distant future !

Got Perceptor a few days ago. Very solid figure. I need to find my TR version to compare the two. I like that he's not a headmaster.

Last time I get a Perceptor. We're done. I feel like this is a really solid figure to end on. I miss the telescoping thing his microscope did in G1. I also miss that the mirror bit is no longer a mirror nor separate from the slide holder. But this is my being picky. I still like it.

I had the TR version, as well as the original G1, and have SS86. I would rank them

SS86
G1
TR

I do think they all have their positives, but I didn't care for the TR version's chest, and I also didn't like that he was a headmaster, but I did like the sniper rifle, and I do think it's hard to tell he's a headmaster if you don't know it previously.

This is a really well done representation of the character. I wish we would get a comic-accurate Selects version that is red and blue, no teal and black parts.

Any saw the post about tfnation and the 86 movie drafts on tfw2005?

Now I want them all somehow.
Funny how Kranix was going to be a rock lord (likely to make fun of the rival go bot movie)
And Kup was going to be a tank and wear an eye patch.
That's an interesting look for Blurr, and I wonder what convinced them to change the slow talker part.

And rails is way overpowered

But Ironhide had to have a sled or no parts form. And they decided the anti partsform fans would be more upset than the sled fans if they didn't get their way.

Blame it on the original G1 Instructions only acknowledging the Mobile Cannon mode, and not the flat Tank mode. Even Takara's don't!

But there's already a Generations Ironhide / Ratchet with sled? And Perceptor's mobile mode is easy to include, that's why it's there. Way, waaaaaaay easier to include than Ironhide's sled, in an Ironhide toy that attempts to be accurate to the cartoon, specially if you want it to be a deluxe...

Those exclusive ER deluxes don't really count because the partforming roof can only be the "sled" with 3D printed bonus parts.

As for the proper Ironhide/Ratchet with the true sled, they were botcon repaints of this guy:

Too bad those are absurdly rare and expensive.

I disagree. Perceptor's mobile lab mode is extremely simple, and what's bad about it, no one wiould be upset. It's an optional mode.

I think it would have worked perfectly if they had kept the original head without any remolding.

Well, because the original is so cheap and easy to find, I guess I'll just have to customise my own Energon Ratchet and Ironhide.

Yep, those head sculpts didn't work me back then and they haven't grown on me yet.

And the sled is relic of the past that I'll be happy to never see again. It was a solution to a problem that hasn't existed since 1984, no need to break any more figures just to bring it back.

Anyone wanting a sled and upset that it's not included in this over priced DLX toy I'm sure this isn't the last we've seen of G! version of Ironhide and you'll likely see a sled version for a generations release or as some kind of exclusive.

I don't really understand it fuss for something so very niche, but to each their own.

Heck I'm more disappointed with SS86 being shorter than ER considering Ironhide is a taller bot and not that much shorter than prime, thus IMO this new version is going to look a bit short/inaccurate standing next to him.

I too think of Ironhide as a big gruff military dude who's seen some action, but if we are going for accuracy, which is what SS86 hopes to do, we have to stick to the G1 scale. And in g1, Ironhide was not a big guy, same size as a carbot. He looks tiny next to Optimus. And there lies the genius of this particular figure's engineering. They replicated the idea of having a van, far bigger than a car, become the same size as a carbot in bot mode.

Here's just three shots, but you can look at any episode of the cartoon and see the same scale more or less.

There's also the fact that ER Optimus is not that big to begin with so having Ironhide as massive as him would be wierd.

Just a tad bit smaller. He is crouching in that shot, so he'll look way smaller.

While Optimus is the leader, his voyager figures tend to be just standard, not big not small. They have all been the same standard size starting with classics, which is the first voyager class optimus we ever had, and he keeps that standard size in the film lines. The only one that was bigger than the rest was the CW one.

And here is him in alt mode. Talk about size changing!

could not find the picture of him in alt mode (Optimus on a stretcher going into Ratchets ambulance mode), but This will have to do:

That makes me notice something. I just realized Classics Optimus has kneecaps that flip up in robot mode, and down in alternate mode. Siege/Earth rise does the same but more compact, and in reverse.

He isn't the same size as Optimus, but he isn't nearly as small as a car bot, even in those pictures he's coming up to Prime's shoulder (though usually he's even with his chest windows) and towering over the cars. This is more or less accurate to the official scale chart used by the cartoon.

This is the same scale that MP uses and nailed it.

The SS figure is accurate, but it's really at the most minimum of accurate just barely clearing the bottom of Prime's windows.

My problem is that they not just felt the need to make him smaller than the WFC figure but also made him smaller than a Deluxe figure at the Voyager price point with no obvious gains (ER Ironhide also has many more folding panels than the Siege mold), and the WFC Ironhide mold isn't even a uniquely tall Deluxe, there's plenty of others that are the same size like Impactor. It was a very bad move on Hasbro's part.

I just looked, and those many more folding panels you mention appear to be only 4 and all located on the shield/sled, the window panels. The bot himself has the same number of panels in the same places.

The height diffference itself doesn't really bother me anymore since all the classes overlap now. What does irritate me is the fact that we are getting our 3rd G1 Ironhide in 4 years and this one is eating up a Voyager slot because what they wanted to do was just a little too much for deluxe class. Ultimately if it ends up being a fun toy, I'll probably probably get over it like I did SS86 Hot Rod, but I am really not liking the precedent they are setting.

Edit: Also really not liking the "diaper" effect the crotch part and panels are giving off.

I honestly would be fine if just Ironhide could be the same size as prime. Don know why he isn't, but sucks I guess, deal with it. From the information gathered it seems he should be the size perfectly in between deluxe and voyager, but that budget was wasted on the stupid clear plastic windows and their paint! Why does Hasbro keep insisting on clear plastic windows when they are not accurate in the first place?!

Conclusion:
Ratchet is a little short for scale
Hasbro doesn't care
So deal with it
