So the Quitesson is a baseformer modulator bot? Snapdragon looks a little Apefacey to me :-?

Have you ever felt insulted by a toy reveal? I didn't think it was possible, but that's how Smokescreen and Megatron are making me feel right now. The other reveals are, of course, awesome.

That 'Scoponok' looks AMAZING! Gonna have to save my pennies to try to get one of that figure. 'Arcee' is fantastic looking too. 'Skylynx' is so close to the G1 animated screen version it makes me shed a tear. This truly is a "New Golden Era" for fans of Transformers, especially for G1 fans and those who grew up with G1 original series.

:-D ;)^ :APPLAUSE: :yinyang:

No, nor can I imagine. I like when I'm not interested, saves me money, time and shelf space.

With that said, I just opened ER Starscream and he's good, like please don't redeco the mold into TC and SW good. Just some coneheads please.

So...Megatron goes from being a Tank in SIEGE, to being the same tank BUT BLACKER on Earth?

I mean, it IS a great Vouager class Megs, but this will be the third mainline use of this mold with slightly different deco/tooling. I mean, at least Optimus is a new figure, even if it’s still just a GEEWUN-style. But I was sincerely hoping for an aerial-based alt-mode for Megs in Earthrise. Once again, I expected too much from John Warden.

Doubledealer and Snapdragon! Awesome! Though, it looks like the Powermaster engine might just be sculpted in... Or it could be similar to a Prime Master... Either way, that's a tad disappointing. I was hoping for a proper Powermaster, but I'm mostly just excited for a proper Doubledealer

To be insulted by a toy says less about the toy and more about someone who says they’re insulted by it.

Hoping doubledealer has some power master gimmickery and (maybe wrongly) snapdragon plastic matches ape faces.

Quints... Going to need one for every face. Liking the base mode a lot too.

All icons, going to be wanting three of those.

Micromasters shuttles look great.

Still hoping for a racknruin to be shown so I can avoid buying the cyber verse one.

Runamuck looks to be his own mold? Looks different enough from cliff or wheel jack to be his own thing anyways which is great even if lacking some orange.

Fingers crossed rest of the autobot datsun cars aren't just select/exclusives even if it clutters up main line figure slots. Earthrise looks to be getting more of my money other than plain grey megatron.

Smokescreen and Megatron look decent enough, I skipped the Siege version of Prowl because I wasn't keen on the vehicle mode design, but if this Smokescreen is repainted into a Prowl I'll get that. With Megatron, I'm still happy with my Combiner Wars Leader, but I'm really eager to see Takara's new Super Megatron we heard about a while ago (if it's even still happening).

Cant wait to see the alt modes... the quintesson especially. The allicon and runamuck look great. Doubledealer... will get him but the origjbal g 1 toy was awesome back in the day, hope this one captures some of that too.

The mm airbase was one i really wanted as a kid, this looks amazing. They could have a whole sub brand of these things...

Megatron feels a bit disappointing but a lot of it has to do with how earth like his wfc mould was. Im skipping star scream, not sure bout megs as i got prime...

Smokescreen is a might get... probably if part of a whole wave for sale or something. He is my fave dutsan.

So yeah this is gonna be another expensive year.

I will be honest, that megs feels a bit like a slap in the face. He was the least interesting design from the voyagers in Earthrise (but still a solid figure) so seeing that they used that same design for an "earth mode" feels lame. All to say... easy pass.

Smokescreen does give fans an earth alt mode and finally proves that what came out the previous year is in no way a factor into what can come out the year after. I had predicted that this was exactly what we would get with smokescreen. Wait till next year where we get another datsun mold and Bluestreak is the one available at retail.

I don't find them insulting, Hasbro wants to make money and they'll sell plenty of these.

I do find them very boring though. One day my prince will come and not be a legion class toy.

If you go on the Walmart barcode scan app, you can see new listings for Transformers Earthrise figures. Not all have pictures, but some do. You cannot to into the listing, but you can still see the thumbnail, which is pictured below. You will find a deluxe Alicon, deluxe Runamuk, voyager Snapdragon, leader Doubledealer and Earthrise's Quintesson judge figure. That last one was said to be a voyager before and it has a modular element to it, something we saw more with the deluxes. They all look exactly as can be expected from the current stance of being as faithful as possible to G1, at least when it comes to mainline mass market toys. These screenshots below were taken by Jtprime17, who first posted them on TFW's message boards. Let us know what you think!

That Alicon looks double dippin' monkey flippin' army buildin' DOOOOOOPE!!!!

As one of the worlds foremost Datsun Bros super fan, I love the classic look of that Smokescreen, but man I'm having a hard time with this. I mean I saw this coming as soon as it was rumored, but C'MON!!!! Money doesn't grow on trees.

Though I would personally like to thank Earthrise Megatron for saving me some scratch! ;)^

But this sucker will still buy it.

So far, Doubledealer look awesome! Too bad his Powermasters would surely have to be bought separately. They could easily be Soundwave Casettes remolds.

I hope that ER Starscream DOES get Skywarp and Thundercracker redecoes as well as the coneheads. With as many SIEGE Starscreams as are clogging shelves and with how hard it is to find SIEGE Skywarp, frankly they should have led with Skywarp instead of Screamer. It would have been fitting too, since Skywarp was the first get an Earth mode and awaken.

MKyuun wrote:Respectfully, the argument that Earthrise Arcee's shell/parts-formation was necessary to enable waist swivel doesn't convince me, as MMC's Azalea has perfect transformation coalescing her car fenders into her shoulder pods, while maintaining the waist swivel. It's certainly doable.
Azalea doesn't count, because Azalea doesn't retain a G1-accurate car mode. Azalea is also bigger, so delicacy is less of an issue (or is it? Does Azalea have breakage problems?) and there's more room to work with.
MKyuun wrote:I don't share the optimism that her 'hoverboard', as it were, integrates into the transformation. It'd be a slight improvement, but it's certainly going to add considerable bulk to her backpack if it does, or if it at least snaps onto the backpack, given that it doesn't appear to collapse into a smaller form.
I think it will either fold over the rest of the backpack, or between the backpack and her back.
MKyuun wrote:I think Takara just gave up on this design, and went the simplest route by making her a nice looking action figure with basically a hinged hoodie and 2/3 snap-on alt mode. To my eye, little to nothing of that robot mode becomes a car, and you could easily remove the top of her backpack, join it to the lower half, and have a complete stand alone car and robot, as neither mode requires anything of the other.
Oh, I'm not saying she's not a shellformer - she's right up there with Break and Big Convoy. But I can at least see why they did it that way. Perhaps they did take the easy way out by doing that to gain the pelvis swivel, but it's not an incomprehensible thing. And I think she has enough fun factor and good looks to make up for her shortcomings. I'm not as disappointed in her as I am in the waste that is ER Megatron; the only thing he looks to have over the SIEGE version is MAYBEbarrel elevation, and he's still just as bland-looking. HasTak should either change him to G2 colors before release or just scrap him altogether. :evil: :-x

A very nice, feminine figured Arcee. No partsforming needed here.

3rd party figures have a few non-partsforming deluxe Arcees. I know we're talking about official figures here, but it CAN be done.

I wouldn't have minded the parts forming if it wasn't so egregious. Or if the hoverboard looked like a hoverboard. There's a 3rd party Arcee called Motobot who's all about partsforming. But her parts assemble into sick guns! She remains one of my favourite figures.

Image
Why do so many people seemingly not know about this Arcee? No partsforming here either. Well, except for her smaller gun. No prayer of a waist swivel on this Arcee, though.

I'd be down for a Titan Class Overlord.
I think Overlord would be better as a Commander class.

My thoughts on the newer reveals:
Airwave is cool and looks like a lot of fun.

Smokescreen isn't the most exciting, but it does mean he'll be easier to find.

Megatron needs to take either a bath in green plastic dye, or a flying leap. :BANG_HEAD: I'm going to send a complaint letter before he has a chance to pollute store shelves.

Snapdragon, Runamuck, the Allicon, the Quintesson, and Doubledealer are quite good looking. I'm especially excited for Snapdragon and Doubledealer.

IMO, the insulting part isn't the figures - it's Hasbro's growing mentality that that they can use nostalgia to get fans to buy essentially the same product multiple times. I'll probably post on it again in a few days as it's a complex topic and I want to give some thought to it instead of just "rage react", but I will say that ER is starting to taint how I view Siege in retrospect.

I think the problem with Megatron and the Datsuns is not that they're getting released with g1-ish earthmodes in Earthrise, but rather, that their altmodes in Siege were too earh-like. They should have had more creative, less man-made looking altmodes in Siege. Baut they didn't, so now these new figures feel boring, when they're actually pretty cool looking and in line with the whole budget-masterpiece thing Earthrise seems to be shooting for. Rather, it was actually the Siege figures that were boring, taking into account the whole "cybertronian altmodes" concept it was supposed to represent.

You know, a few years ago I'd said there'd be a snowball's chance in hell of that happening, but they are starting to scrap the bottom of that G1 barrel. A safer bet would be a Soundwave redeco, considering they are re-releasing the rest of the Siege cast.

Smokescreen is less disappointing than Megatron because Smokescreen has a decent design overall and the focus on him suggests that he will be available at retail this time. It gives those who missed the boat on the Selects version more of a chance.

Smokescreen looks fantastic! Everything that was a shortcoming in the "Generations Selects" release from last year has been addressed, which is mainly the paint apps and color distribution. Earthrise Smokescreen looks to be right on the money...except for his shoulder cannons and gun. Here's hoping the new Earthrise (re)mold is still compatible with the "Siege" tooling so that I can swap out the black shoulder cannons and blue blaster for the all white cannons and blaster that came with the Selects release.

Megatron is very disappointing. I think I like the Siege version better. In fact, I just want a re-release of that without the battle damage and with the last few missing paint apps restored. That would be a perfect "Generations" G1 Megatron for me. This new Earthrise version looks to have an even bigger backpack, and the partsforming turret is just way too big. I hope that it can somehow compact onto his back instead for storage, because it looks terrible wielded as a "weapon." Let's hope the mold actually looks better in person than in CGI renders.

This is exactly it. When the Siege designs were revealed, I was worried HasTak would just reshell them with Earth modes later. This is essentially what is now happening for some of the figures. They should have just committed to the Cybertronian aesthetic or let the Siege figures stand as the definitive versions for now and get some new characters in there. Time will tell how their plan pays off. On one hand, these are popular characters that sell well. On the other, many people already went in during Siege and may not be willing to double dip for a tweaked alt mode.

Then why did you act like he was applying the "Bottom of the barrel" part to Soundwave? Just being facetious?

This is pretty much how I'm feeling about it at the moment.

All of this, 100%.

Calling it right now: Sunstreaker will share a mold with the battlechargers.
I'm pretty sure he will instead share a mold with Wheeljack (assuming it's not an academic distinction).

The problem with trying to give the pre-movie G1 characters less man-made looking altmodes in SIEGE was that the cartoon artists never gave them unearthly robot modes, and so trying to reconcile that... Wheeljack and Bumblebee are the absolute worst offenders.

I will reiterate that I don't have a problem with Smokescreen (the only Datsun we've seen thus far, though we probably will get at least more), because the SIEGE version was an online exclusive that is now harder to find and will probably get expensive. It's like Timelines Thundercracker, Thrust, and Dirge getting retail versions. And much like those, ER Smokescreen offers improvements on the Selects version. Better color layout and he has the spoiler. Although on the other hand, his front end is less Datsun-like... :(
Also, doing a comparison to my SIEGE Prowl... Earthrise Smokescreen is a new mold.

Megatron, on the other hand, I do have a problem with. In fairness to him, he actually does look significantly different from the SIEGE figure in vehicle mode thanks to the turret changes and not being an H-tank. But he's still just as bland if not more so, has a more awkward melee weapon, and has a more cluttered look in robot mode. I think he'd be better off as G2 Megatron, RID Bludgeon, or just plain scrapped. I've already sent a letter of complaint to Hasbro to that effect, and I suggest those who are similarly disappointed send them letters of your own.

I want a Leader-class Megs that does for him what the ER Leader OP does for Optimus Prime.

Based on ER Prime's wheel kibble on his lower back being designed to be easily removable, I'm gonna guess ER Megatron's tank treada might also be designed to be more easily removable to get to more of a G1 silhouette, but that's not a huge improvement.

This set is owning my wallet. I didn't get WFC Siege Smokescreen, so I'll likely pick this one up. Doubledealer, Snapdragon, Runamuck, Alicon, Quintesson, are auto buys. I'll probably skip Megatron...probably. He's just not substantially different enough to get....I suppose.

If they do the Datsuns as Earth modes (Prowl, Bluestreak, Barricade) I'll probably break down and get them, since they're my favorites.

I'd really like to see some coneheads.

Snapdragon, finally! The Horrorcons should have been done two or three years ago when Headmasters were all the rage.

Looking forward to more pix of the Quintessons and the others.

BTW, is Runabout (the black Battlecharger) coming too, or will it be some expansive exclusive?

To be insulted by a toy says less about the toy and more about someone who says they’re insulted by it.

Oh get off your high horse. This is a discussion over freaking plastic toys.

How would a leader Class megs work :-? Given that his robot mode would have to be equal height to Prime and can't be a gun mode. What would the extra plastic be used for?

Edited this observation into my previous post, but a new page happened while I was doing it:

I'm pretty sure that Earthrise Smokescreen is not a reshell but a new mold entirely. I compared his details to my SIEGE Prowl, and...
* The wheels are different
* The shoulders are different
* The hands are different
* The forearms are different
* The upper arms are different
* From what I can see, the lower torso appears to be different
* The pelvis is different
* The thighs are different
* The calves are different

Make him turn into something that has the same shape as the P38, but detailed to look like a vehicle (possibly upside-down). Correspondingly, turn the stock and silencer from the original toy into extensions for that vehicle. And retain their modular combining functions, since those go well with Earthrise's gimmicks.

Anyone notice what looks like a 16 on the side of ER Megatron? Well 016.

The TFWiki shows the G1 toy Japanese ID # as 16. Any other references that are above my head?

Submarine parts. Base bot is a torpedo, then a sub is built around it. Bonus points if the base bot is spring loaded.

I think a leader Megatron could be a similar concept to Galaxy Upgrade Prime where it has a voyager Megatron that turns into a jet, and the extra parts he allow him to take on the appearance of Cybertron Megatron, and in vehicle mode the parts give him that "batmobile" mode.

Though I'm more inclined to believe that this theoretical Megatron would come in part 3, with a name like Unicronian Upgrade Megatron, or the more likely option of Galaxy Upgrade Megatron. Especially because Unicron should be coming around that time

1. That's not what I was talking about, since that wouldn't be a Megatron equivalent to the Earthrise Leader Optimus. :roll:

2. It wouldn't work. They pulled off Galaxy Upgrade Optimus because of Optimus' "separate cab robot" nature. But trying it with Cybertron Megatron wouldn't work too well, because of his integrated design. You'd run into worse problems than PotP Optimal Optimus had, and the inner robot wouldn't really be able to look like a G1 Megs anyway (especially if the toy used Cybertron Megatron's color scheme). If you want a new Cybertron Megatron that badly, he'd be best done as a straight-up remake. Cybertron Megs is supposed to be taller than Optimus - especially unarmored Optimus - anyway.

BAM!
There's the issue!

Seriously, that Megatron is way too similar to the Siege one. So much that it's a waste of a slot. Siege Megs could have been released as a Eartrise figure with no problems.

Sigh...

If only Siege had those guys as Optimus and Megatron upscaled to voyager size. But no.

Image

That's why I also find Earthrise Optimus to be worthless. Too similar to the Siege voyager and that trailer is totally bare-bone for the asking price.

Runamuck already has a very Sunstreaker-like chest and has convenient pegholes in his shoulders for some shoulder pylons. Which mold gets used (if it isn't an entirely new mold) will likely come down to the alt mode. If Runamuck's is too sedan-y, Wheeljack will probably get the nod.

I think that SIEGE Megatron looked too Earthlike, FWIW, although he could have passed as an earth mode. I think a lot of what makes Earthrise Megatron look too similar to the SIEGE figure is the fact that he has the same bland gray-and-black color scheme, only with even fewer red accents.

Also, see the problem of the cartoon not giving anybody a pre-Earth robot mode.

-Kanrabat- wrote:If only Siege had those guys as Optimus and Megatron upscaled to voyager size. But no.

-Edgeatron and Edgeimus snip-
What did you expect? It's G1 cartoon based.

IMO, changing up the stacks and the fuel tanks and removing the bulky overhead lights does a lot to distinguish him. He also has a removable Matrix of Leadership for added play value, and a better-looking gun.

Also, how do you call the trailer "totally bare bones" when it has the functioning repair/attack drone pod and a detachable shield?
