So I bought this today along with the Autobot and Decepticon symbol wrap-around cover version. I resisted reading an early copy of the book that I received along with some other Seibertron.com staff members last member. I have to say that I was really impressed with the book. I'm not quite sure what to think of Bumblebee having a more mature role in the book but it works. Can't wait for issue #2!

I don't follow Comics to much anymore, but so's Captian America being dead!

Here's hoping its not some fake out like with Superman!

When heros fade away, I think they should just stay faded and become the legend thay deserve to be.

Optimus Prime, Superman, Jesus, now the good Captian...

...the return is just never the same.

Assuming this is exactly the same as the black & white version, only with color, I really don't understand why the reviews are so positive (at least story-wise).

Here's my summation (SPOILERS!)

Optimus and Megatron cooperatively rule Cybertron together. Megatron betrays Optimus and makes a move to steal Castle Grayskull the Cosmic Key the Mystical Magic Cube that gave life to the Cybertronians which they all worship like the Monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Megatron and the Neo Arcadian soldiers from the Mega Man Zero series his drones are looking for the magic cube. Bumblebee and Arcee try to hold them off one one front while Optimus carries out his masterplan on another. Megatron ties Arcee and Bumblebee up all kinky-like and then beats the crap out of Bumblebee. Megatron sees the magic cube shot into space in the distance, points-out how retarded that was since his alt mode is a space jet, and flies off to catch it.

Bumblebee says he's mute from the beating he got and is going after Megatron in the form of a flying ball with wheels and headlights.

The end.

Supposively this was a "corrected" version but today I thumbed through it, exact same as the one released a few weeks ago.

Darth Bombshell wrote:Try telling that to the guy that owns the comic shop near where I live. I used to get all my stuff there, except during the last four months of last year, when I had to get Stormbringer #2-4, along with the Nightbeat, Hot Rod, Sixshot and Ultra Magnus Spotlights from a store in Vancouver. It was only last month that I found a shop closer to home (and is actually about twenty minutes from the college) where I'm going to be going from now on, since they have the comics there (well, except for Generations, but seeing as how I've already cut that from my budget...). Yeah, they're a bit more expensive there than at the Vancouver store, but at least I don't have to take a four hour trip both ways.

What did the guy say at the shop near where you live? Did he say "no, i won't get you any of the Transformers books"? Given how shitty the comic book industry is of late, it just seems like he would be happy to get someting in for you so that he can make some more money. Does he have a club that you can join where he'll hold your books for you that come in weekly?

I like the gritty feel of the comic.

oh and bumblebee is da man

It was the final piece of the puzzle to completely sell me on the new movie designs of original characters. Its even sold me on Megatron which was a hard sell and now if they give me Starscream in these comics, they finally sell me on him too.

Either way, a great read and really hands us a foundation heading into the movie premier. Oh I just can't wait!

I think it's really great that they're doing this. It certainly helps flesh out the overall story for people like us. The only thing I didn't really care for was the "Simfur" city, but what the hell ... Furman deserves a little nod just like some of the big sites used to get back in the day with the Dreamwave comics in some of the artwork.

Yes I must say that this was a REALLY awesome read. It got me even more excited about the movie. It is such a huge departure from anything else we've seen from the Transformers, but Nevertheless, Simon Furman has done it again. Dialogue was great(kinda cheesy in some parts, but what can you do?), the Art was great, the Plot is awesome; you don't ee anyone transform until Megatron does at the very end! That's very close to what they want to do with the movie, as I understand.

The whole "Allspark" thing is pretty reminiscent of the Underbase Saga(also written by Simon Furman), but it's still an interesting take on the Transformers Mythos. Can't wait until the next issue!

Wow, something went very wrong with this thread. All the stuff from a month ago is appearing. Anyway, all my thoughts still stand. Simfur is still stupid, even if it is Ryall. I still think Megatron and Prime ruling together is dumb. Would have definitely like to see a focus on a character other than Bumblebee. Too much of the silly mythology I've come to realize is utter junk present. Etc, etc, etc.

Pass.

Oh, and I still think Denyer's argument of me believing Ryall and Furman are the same person was completely moronic.

Direct from e-mail:

Ryall wrote:We originally had Arcee with some pink highlights, but were told all the TFs on Cybertron needed to be monochromatic metal colors only. "Simfur" was my little nod to Simon,

We get that you'd prefer to see Furman as an egotist writing himself into the story, but sadly the facts here conflict with the petty assumption jumped to.

Yeah, but Simon must have known.

But you know what? The guy freakin deserves this kind of nod. I mean, how integral has he been for TF comics over the years?

Simfur it is, damn it.

I just read the comic and I'm really looking forward to the movie now. Megatron is my favorite and I'm recently realizing that it doesn't matter what he looks like, he's still awesome and I want to see more. I do miss his huge-ass arm cannon though.

Rub some of this into your hands and it'll take off the worst of the warty green texture; if you don't get when you're being played by this point, you never will.

Watching someone argue that one of two co-writers definitely wrote something to buff his own ego when you've been told otherwise by the main writer, a subsequent interview and basic common sense is hilarious.

I was not impressed.

Comics are suppose to have different characters aren't they? Aside from Megatron it was hard to identify any of them because they all looked virtually the same!

Cybertron is now populated by generic looking robots and only the big wigs look different?

1 issue down ... 3 to go. It had want to get better.

I also wondered why all the supporting cast looked so similar.

It was an okay issue. It wasn't as bad as anything DW did, praise be. The movie designs do lack a cedrtain charm, though, and Arcee reminded me of BM Rattrap.

Whiskey!

That's part of my point. The fact that you had to turn it into a personal attack. Doesn't say great things about your character.

I also find it interesting that you admit to deceit, considering that you like to try and contribute to news on websites. Most news personnel attempt to portray unfaltering integrity and honesty. Why would people believe your news and comments if you admit you deceive?

heh. dont point the blame at don or anything

we were just workin with what hasbro tells us and as far as pre-earth/protoforms go, all the Transformers look relatively alike. but not without subtle differences of course

Its just like us humans. We're all the same yet different in subtle ways.

Personally i dont mind so much i guess for that reason.

i've never complained to God "man...whyd you make everybody look the same? thats stupid. i cant tell who anybody is" :P

but anyways

stick around for issue 2. thats where it gets really good xD

Maybe so but you can definitely tell the difference between males and females.

And as far as TF history goes, Arcee has always been "female", assuming Arcee is suppose to be "female" in this book she barely looks any different to any of the other bots.

It was an individual bots look that made them the characters who they were, even on Cybertron they were different, but this ... this just seems like a lumping together of generic looking bots.

And if you say it's what Hasbro said they wanted ... that sounds like a serious cop out on Hasbro's part. :?

who's to say theres anything remotely close to "genders" as far as the TF race goes? especially in this universe anyways

but yeah. Keeping a similar aesthetic for pre-earth robots was something we had to do. Hasbro seems pretty bent on keeping a kind of visual continuity [which is quite understandable]

to prove it the whole first issue actually had bumblebee drawn in a VERY different way than what you guys see

We were told to change that to keep in accordance with the aesthetic established in the movie

[bumblebee was once yellow and arcee had a bit of pink in her as well. but we had to change that too]

but things really do get better in issue 2

personally i dont much care for how the first issue came out. a bit dark and very monochrome. plus i may be a little bitter because of all the hassle we had to go through :P

but yeah. do give it a chance. the other 3 issues almost feel like a completely different series
Re: Friendly reminder: TF: Movie Prequel #1 in stores today! (49174)

So Hasbro have basically said "hey you know how we've had 20 odd years of our characters looking unique regardless of what planet they're on? Yeah, forget that. They only get unique when they leave Cybertron". ?

I'll give the next three issues a go, but as someone who's been a pro-movie supporter from the beginning, this first issue came close to swaying me to the other side.

Oh and thanks for popping in like you do Josh. Much appreciated!

Josh wrote:who's to say theres anything remotely close to "genders" as far as the TF race goes? especially in this universe anyways

Yeah, the lack of pronouns for Arcee is interesting and possibly significant -- although if these aren't just placeholders for the eventual names to be used on toys, it isn't because Hasbro are trying to avoid bringing robot gender into the movie universe.

Care to take a guess at whether that was Ryall or Furman, Grimmers?
