Maybe they're the same body type but with different Alt modes.

I very highly doubt they'd make an entirely new mold in an entirely new design for a pre-existing major character in the continuity without intending to use them. At the very least we might have assumed Ratchet might not have been in RiD despite his toy because it's just a remold and hey, it's a nice nod to TFP fans; but this? Naw. No way Screamer gets this much treatment and doesn't get to be in the show. Especially when there's a villain vacancy to be filled up as of Season 2's ending... and the whole corrupt Cybertron council rejecting autobots thing seems to echo Screamer's role in IDW.

So to sum up...
-G1 Starscream body in general
-Animated Starscream alt-mode
-1986 Movie Coronation shoulders
-TFP Starscream head
How many more references could you possibly put in? At this point they'd have to give him cyber key powers, a birdface and the ability to combine with G2 Dreadwing if they wanted to reference more screamers.

Why not make him intangible (Energon), make him a giant (Cybertron/Galaxyforce), give him wheels (Alternity), and give him mini-con pegs? And make him a Pretender? And um.. oh make him an Action Master. And uh... what else am I missing?

I've got to wonder who's really supervising the RiD product line these days. The toys and show (app too, unless I missed an update that Starscream isn't in it) are almost entirely off-the-rails out of sync at this point.

Acid Storm's gotten an insane amount of love; getting a Legends, a Classics redeco and a Masterpiece in the past 5 or so years - none of those being outside the mainline.
Now Sunstorm? Sunstorm would be nice considering his only toys are either a Masterpiece or exclusives.
It's also nice to see Starscream comes with two short null-rays. I hope I'll be able to make those somehow compatible with Gen Armadascream.
Also, that's a pretty nice head on Paralon there. ... about as much as I can say.

Its because its toysrus exclusives. This has been very common the past few years. Look at MP Bumblebee, he was found in stores before being actually revealed by hasbro. And same for last year's wave of Clash of the Transformers with that first Megatronus toy (whose legion toy turns out to still be exclusive to toysrus). If anything, its more common than uncommon with TRU toys, at least since I have been collecting (which isnt long).

The Clash of the Transformers figures usually have good paint apps. They had a ton last year compared the the normal deluxes.

Yes although I dont think there will be a normal retail version. The Cash of Transformers have had exclusive molds in the past. This is the first deluxe, sure, but I went in depth about their exclusive retools for the 3 step ones, the legion emgatronus was never released wide and neither was the big megatronus toy either. I am thinking this will stay as a TRU exclusive. Plus this wouldnt be the fisrt time Hasbro releases a Starscream without his repaints. In Prime, only starscream was released by hasbro. No other seeker.

Perhaps, but... it is a seeker mold. Practically by law they have to make a Thundercracker, Skywarp and at least one more redeco out of it and I doubt they'd all stay TRU exclusive. Megatronus is a unique character and whose mold I can't see applying to anyone else, at least in the context of the continuity.

I think he's this wave's Megatronus: a possible normal retail version will have a slightly different deco, and a slight tweak in the head (battle mask, or smirk!).

So then did Hasbro break the law by not releasing a thundercracker and Skywarp in Prime? Nothing is set in stone. And in show continuity, Thundercracker and Skywarp do not exist, the only other seekers are Skyquake and Dreadwing.

The closest Hasbro got was that Skywarp homage in the Dark Energon series. If anything, TakaraTomy is the one pumping out those redecos, as they did with the Arms Micron series (and they released a Skywarp for Dark of the Moon, which Hasbro skipped!).

And even then, those arms micron releases were not wide releases, they were exclusive to Yodobashi Camera, Yamada Electronics and EIDON group stores.

I noticed it and I am pretty sure thats how it will be. This RID line has shown that it has a hard time merging that aesthetic with jets, as seen by windblade who has a bad case of kibble in both modes. At least Starscream's robot mode is fine since his nosecone is incorporated into his robot mode.

That Cybertron mention is fun though because that line did get the other seekers... but using a different mold

They broke every possible law. As soon as the line ended with nary a seeker repaint on Hasbro's side I grabbed by pitchfork and torch on a march to Hasbro Europe. It was a glorious night.
But yeah like, I see where you're coming from; but there's a few reasons I think it'd happen here. First being that RiD likes it's repaints a lot more than TFP. Outside of some exclusives like the Dark Energon series, the only mold re-usage I can recall in TFP was Skyquake and some heavy retools for Beast Hunters. Meanwhile, RiD sees fit to release Optimus and Drift three times because they got desert and winter camo...
The second, and I know this seems a little bit arbitrary, but that mold... only really fit Starscream. And despite the common traits of silver tongues and treachery, this felt like a very different Starscream to what we usually got in terms of his personality and body language - and the body itself. Every other seeker mold before and after - barring obvious exceptions like Alternity - has followed the same general look of G1. Cockpit chest, null rays, wing backpack and a body shape that had some solid bulk to it but still managed to pull off athleticism. TFP Starscream... didn't feel like that. Which is good, because I'm always up for something different; but you couldn't really eek seekers out of it like with the Animated or FOC molds. Takara did it, and it just... it just doesn't feel right. Animated Sunstorm works, Generations Skywarp works... Arms Micron Thundercracker just feels very off. It's a mold meant for Starscream, and it definitely doesn't work outside of Starscream - it's not meant to be a seeker imo.
Thirdly...
... I'm sure I had a third. I know I did. I'll get back to you, I'm just dumb.
