But first, you will find an English video review of Bumblebee from Ton Ton. We thank fellow Seibertronian MadProject for sending some of these to us. Please let us know what you think of these two toys and if you feel Prime is worth the price now that you own him.

But Prime's grill was shiny in both the show and movie.frogbat wrote:E sides the price and the back kibble, one thing I’m not liking on this prime is the chrome in robot mode. I’m not a fan of chrome in general cos it tends to chip or fade off easily. However, in this case it jars with the anime aesthetic.

We need it reflective enough to see Thrust

i would have thought it would have made things easier to achieve
the robot mode without so much horrible looking kibble

I thought that was the preferred design aesthetic HasTak were aiming for these days

Good point re thrust... my comment was more re his robot mode, found it all that at that price and with all the stuff they’ve included, they didn’t have a matte version of the grill to go with it. Like they did for inferno and grapple.

I can say "nice try". It have some nice ideas but the whole execution is a total mess.

in an effort to make them cartoon accurate down to the proportions they over complicated things and left this horrible looking kibble
i would rather sacrifice the proportions and some accuracy to have a clean and fun transformation

Because at the time, they were obsessed with the licences.
Still, I don't see why they couldn't just take the previous MP Bee and reshell him in his clown-car form.
Speaking of unlicensed vehicles, they have no excuses to not make Jazz now.

The cars are still licensed, including this chibi VW Beetle.

The toys are licensed. So is the G1 BB reissue. And Jazz being a Porsche means they have another license to get that they dont have yet (you need a license at the individual car company level).

Yeah, it was better. Because it looked like an actual Robot in Disguise with a real life VW Beetle alt-mode and not a poorly animated and out of proportion waste of cell animation.

Which brings us ever back to the dozens of popular characters that don't need licenses, waiting in the wings. Meanwhile Takara stagnates the G1 line, fixating on a handful of licensed car-bots.

As I wrote, that is irrelevant, you acquire the licence at the car company level and for each market it is sold in. Hence why there was a period where Hasbro/Takara could release lamborghinis but not VW cars.

I think the SD/Penny Racer-style cars being licensed are a bit of a formality, the license for the VW Beetle was active thanks to the Bumblebee movie, so using it for the G1 reissue and the newer MP despite not really necessary (don't quote me on that), why not? It's worth mentioning that Tailgate was reissued, unlicensed even, despite being based on the Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am.

I understand what you wrote, all I was saying is if they went for two why not go for all three at the same time? From what I remember VW was the hardest one to get so Porsche could be relatively easy.

"Trademark, design patents and copyrights are used with the approval of the owner Volkswagen AG."
It's an expansive toy and a well known character I doubt they would have risked it.
The new MP Autobot cars are all licensed, that much hasn't changed.
Takara can't make a proper "G1" MP Jazz without the specific car mode. I'm sure he will get made eventually. One of the designers said in an interview that getting licenses is easier now thanks to the merger with Tomy.

Knowing how the Japanese love their metal I'm hoping for a Tony Iommi Black Star special Porsche 911.

Mattel has a Porsche license for their Hot Wheels line though.

I’m still getting Hound and MPM Jazz, but along with 44, I canceled my preorders for Bee45 and Blackarachnia. There have been too many issues lately for me to take the chance without seeing reviews first. I have no interest in Lio Convoy. I sold off Dinobot and BW Megatron, and actually made a profit, so that’s nice. It’s also part of the problem since as long as these figures are bought, Takara will see no need or incentive to improve quality. Thank good for the 3rd party market making them look like trash.
I’ll never say never, as we all know things can and do turn around, but it’s not looking great at the moment. I will be very interested in seeing the next MP figure to be made, as the right character can always override good sense (another part of the problem ).

I'd still like to know how those people with breaks handled their figures.

Most likely the same kind of people who broke their MP-03. Expecting standard Leader Class solidity while handling a way more fragile collector item.

I suggest retail stuff. Waaaaay cheaper than MPs, and even 3Ps, and less likely to have some catastrophic error.

HEY, I HAD MY SHARE OF HORRIBLE QC ISSUES TOO!
...Then I take back the 20$ or 60$ figure back to the store for an instant refund.
Seriously, very low monetary risks with local regular stuff and an easy fix if problems arise.
