Thanks to fellow Seibertronian chuckdawg1999, a regular source for this type of news, we have an in-hand video review of the first in the new line of Takara Tomy Star Wars Powered by Transformers figures - the Tie Advanced X1 that turns into Darth Vader.

Take a look at the clip embedded below, including chuck's thoughts on the toy, and let us know what you think in the Energon Pub discussion boards!

Takara's take on a Darth Vader that Transforms into a Tie Advanced fighter is really solid. The plastic feels good while the transformation is simple but fun. Unfortunately, the overall price of the figure makes it hard to recommend to anyone but the most dedicated fan.

I got Vader. I got thoughts ;;)

Image

He's fun. But he's more "toy" than "collector piece". Which maybe I should have expected, and is right for it, but he's just simpler than I thought he'd be. All around, it's a decent figure, but nothing to rave about. Robot mode is posable enough to do some fun stuff, but lacks a couple joints (like a wrist swivel) to make him fantastic. And the tie wings, while quite movable, can't move every way you'd like. His shoulders like to fall out of place, but it's no deal breaker. The Tie mode, is very much a Tie. Not much else to say about that

I mentioned somewhere that he was slightly bigger than a Deluxe I think? Getting side by side with a current Deluxe, now I see he's more than slightly bigger.

Image

Final thoughts:
He's a good opener if not slightly underwhelming. But he is light years ahead of the old SWTF's and I look forward to the continuation of the line. Bring on the Falcon, and please make an X-Wing Luke!

From the pics, I can see what you mean about this CHUG-style Darth Vader, Shaj -- I would have expected him to be taller as well. He still looks fun, but I absolutely get why one might be underwhelmed.

Nice pictures! for his price point, I do wish he did do more. But he still looks good, and like you said, miles better than the previous SWTFs

Thanks guys!

The more I play around, the more fun I have with him. I think he'll become more relevant when he's got some proper bros to hang with.

Fellow Seibertronian shajaki has pointed us towards another image that had been almost missed in the flurry of excitement from Tokyo Toy Show 2018 over the weekend, featuring the Takara Tomy Star Wars Powered by Transformers toyline and its new Millennium Falcon mold!

I still cannot not see IDW Publishing's original character Anode in the supposed Han Solo facesculpt, but the addition of the crossbow and revamped packaging are a nice touch to the set, after the rebooted Darth Vader. Check out the image below, courtesy of singgg4 over on Twitter, and let us know what you think of the two scoundrel bots the ship turns into in the Energon Pub discussion boards.

So... it hadn't occurred to me... are the Darth Vader Tie Advanced and the Falcon to scale? also... I feel that Falcon really needs a good dry brush wash to pick all that panel detail out. Also a missed opportunity to do the Solo (Lando?) version with a bonus escape pod/bonus accessory. (though I'm sure these were in production before Solo was finalized).

Back to scale briefly... how big are these guys? I know they're not cheap.

I was wondering where the news for this guy(technically guys) were. Anyways, not bad. Definitely an improvement over the original in both bot and Falcon mode. Falcon mode looks really awesome and the bots look cool too. I don't think I would get it, maybe on sale, but that Darth Vader is a must have for me. I just wish his lightsaber was longer

But sadly crumbled. I have the old one, and while Han is alright, Chewy has his right arm permanently in Falcon mode cause his joints and hand GPS-ed right off, as did his one foot. Once I get this guy, that Falcon is permanently going in Falcon mode.

That all being said, This one is really quite cool, and I am super thrilled it will be here in a few weeks

Also, just happened upon this video as I was perusing Takara/Tomy's youtube channel.

Thanks to a heads up from site moderator Cobotron, we have a new video advertisement to share with you for the new Star Wars Powered by Transformers Millennium Falcon as Chewbacca and Han Solo! The video comes to us directly from Takara Tomy's YouTube, and gives us a brief look at the Falcon mode, a step by step transformation instruction, and then a look at the robot modes showing off some poses. We still aren't sure what inspired the Han Solo head, but the faceplate looks pretty good alongside his faithful battle wookie companion.

It's also cool to note how different the transformations are between this new figure and the older original. Everything is entirely new, with apparently nothing really recycled from the first design.

Check out the video below, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!

It's funny that we keep getting these things that no one is really asking for (Street fighter, Star Wars, Star Trek crossovers), but not the things that people really clamor for. Even Prime 3.0 wasn't really high on people's list. It seems to me people are happy we are getting it (I am super hyped for it myself) but would rather have newer MPs. Same for things like the PotP Dinobots, happy we got them, just not the update that we were looking for. I think the Millennium Falcon figures look awesome and I like how they integrated both characters. I just feel it's a little odd they are doing all these other things while the main toy line (PotP) and the main(?) cartoon series (PotP) are lackluster. I hope the new trilogy coming out really has some good stuff in it.

the only crossovers with transformers i like is GI JOE the first crossover and wish they would have done more with toys like with marvel and star wars i get the idea of starwars and some of it is pretty neat but why does it need to be
with GI JOE its more feasible because they exist in the same universe
and now with Star Trek OMG why its illogical :HEADHURTS:

To me it seems to go together with Star Trek, since they go around exploring all types of different worlds they could eventually run into Cybertron, since Earth exists in both universes. Maybe it was contact with the Cybertronians that lead to the development of warp drive technology years before on Earth. A party from Cybertron looking for the Ark and the Autobots landed on Earth, made contact with the government, shared technology, couldn't find them, left to keep searching, and eventually Star Trek happened.
As for Star Wars, being from a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, perhaps in the golden age of Cybertron, when they were exploring different worlds, maybe they came in contact with the Star Wars galaxy. Shared their technology. Created a boom there. Some Transformers got in with the Jedi, others with the sith. Jedi and sith have a war that destroyed much of the Galaxy, using the Transformers technology to help them. Since the Transformers had been a peaceful race at this time, they left that galaxy for the most part. Some of the contingent stayed behind as robots in disguise, not yet willing to give up on them yet. They eventually meet up with the original trilogy heroes, revealing themselves and offering help to topple the empire, while others became corrupt from time spent with the Empire and now want to rule the Galaxy with them.

We also have some new, out of package and in hand, images of the second set of figures in the Takara Tomy Star Wars Powered by Transformers series - the Millennium Falcom set which splits and turns into Han Solo and Chewbacca the Wookie robot modes! The images, mirrored below from their source over on the Facebook group Hong Kong Hobbymizer Discuss and the figures' owner Jimmy Yu and from toy blogger Alfes2010 on Twitter and their blog, show the minifigures, the robot modes and their poseability, the vehicle mode and its deco, and the accessories that come with the set.

Check it all out, and let us know what you think of this new revisitation of the Star Wars set, all in the Energon Pub discussion boards!

If you don't know what GPS is then type it into the search bar of the transformers wiki.

Unlikely, since GPS has been all but abolished for the last several years. Barring some other unforeseen structural issue with the plastic, there should be nothing to worry about! :D

Am I the only one getting a fembot vibe from this set? Mainly from the Han Solo bot. It clearly has an Arcee boob shelf. It also has what could be called high heels. Not to mention that the head kinda reminds me of Anode. I don't know, maybe it's just me.

Aha! We just assumed it was supposed to be Han because of the mini figure, but it's really Leia in her Boushh disguise, that would still explain the Chewbacca half, too.

After a number on in hand, in package, display and prototype images, we finally also have a video review of the Takara Tomy Star Wars Powered by Transformers crossover line's double set of Han Solo and Chewbacca - turning into their combined Millennium Falcon mode!

You can check out the clip, shared with us by fellow Seibertronian Hellscream9999 and sourced from YouTube reviewer Baltmatrix, embedded below, showing the tiny minifigures included with the set, the vehicle mode and its accessories, transformation, robot modes, and size comparisons with mainline Transformers figures in a number of class sizes (from Deluxe to Leader). Honestly, this line feels like a tremendous missed opportunity. If they just tweaked the original molds (less derpy arms, a couple extra hinges to reduce backpack clutter, etc) and gave them better decoes, they could have better product with less money spent on design. Instead, we're getting arguably-worse designs of figures that have already been made, with all the costs of new molds thrown in?

I cannot believe folks are saying the new Takara line is in anyway better than the old Hasbro series. I know the Hasbro toys had issues (many of them in fact) but the new Han and Chewie are hideous, and Vader isn't much better. And don't get me started on Han's head mold.
