At first I was kinda bummed that he lacks the serious bulk that Roadbuster has had in the comics, but the athletic look is growing on me.

Anybody know how this matches up to the original toy or the CMS corp version?

So far, there are none as those characters. The closest Whirl is getting to Japan is being redecoed as Shockwave for their Cloud line.

Could there be issues with the figures releases as Roadbuster and Whirl due to the fact the original toys were made by another company... who I believe is now owned by Tomy so never mind unless I'm wrong about the Tomy thing.

The original toys of Whirl and Roadbuster were originally licensed to Hasbro by Takatoku Toys, which is owned by Bandai, a major competitor of Takara Tomy's in Japan. Releasing any of these guys as their intended characters could probably mean some serious trouble.

I forgot Bandai owned them. Snatched them up after Devorak tanked just for Macross probably.

@ Mindmaster
If that's the case, how come these two were released as Roadbuster?

Maybe Bandai won't go bonkers like Harmony Gold?
I sure hope somewhere down the road, they get the Tomy paint treatment. And a 3rd party battle armor pack.

Verrrrrry limited.
If you mind, would you provide us with photographic evidence (the figure itself plus the receipt), as well as where you got it, so we can report it on the front page? You can either submit it in this thread, or alert us at news@seibertron.com

I'm uploading a scan of the TRU receipt and picture. Its costs xcurrency equivalent of $ 34.90
The TRU coding only identifies him as a "Voyager". Purchased 07/03/2014
Btw, here is my take on him
"Roadbuster love!
Great face sculpt based on art by Guido Guidi from AHM. Original Mugen Calibur(classic design) looks stiff and bulky, this version more proportional macho (in human terms)
About issues with paint mentioned by another poster, correct......right on! Trouble is, the lower ankle is kind of hidden by the die-cut art of the packaging as mine has some slight paint issues.
His sniper rifle is AMAZING! the modular nature is genius.
His rocket launcher has some issues......it keeps on launching prematurely
Ratcheted joints on the shoulders! Static wrist (acceptable) at least we won't have the Wreck-gar thumb syndrome because he's got closed but very detailed mecha fists.
You "can" adjust his feet so as not to appear to spindly.(Thanks to the youtube tip)
Last.....I love the transparent decals ala Takatoku 1980 style. But there is one issue I have with it. The font's letters should have used white color instead of black for some areas to enhanced its effects. It works well on Whirl because he is light blue but on Roadbuster, who's got a lot of green and brown, you'll be hard pressed to see them.
He has an alternate Wrecker sigil........kick @ss!
Good thing I waited for this instead of the FP version. Maybe that fig's price will start dropping like a hot potato lol!
In a scale of 1 to 5...........he gets a 4."

I'm surprised too that Hasbro incorporated an eye poking accessory. What would the parents say

If the kids haven't killed themselves with the flip changers or those punching battlers, we're good.
