My guess is she will have some kind of love/hate relationship and maybe show some understanding towards Starscream's point of view.
Ha, she could be the comic version of a Transformers fangirl, although i believe the writers have something else planned for her.
Can't wait to pick up this comic and see.

I agree, if only to invite further argument! I object to the TF-Prime-ification of GEEWUN-continuity faces, as depicted here. RUINED FOREVER!

Also: I agree on the point of Chromia not having a nose, I really don't like that. Not that she needs a nose, she's a robot, but still it just kinda looks off to me. I don't really see how it looks like anime, but I'm not really digging the art-style (yeah, I said I liked it before when the first page was posted, but we didn't really see any detail in that). I guess I just like my robots to look like robots, and not people wearing costumes.

Then again, we don't quite have that good a look at her face in these pics, so maybe later pages could have her face looking more expressively normal, nose and all.Fires_Of_Inferno wrote:Also: I agree on the point of Chromia not having a nose, I really don't like that. After all, didn't she have a nose visible in Dark Cybertron?

True enough. I hope they go with that. Though there are a couple of good looks at her profile view, and that shot with her and Rattrap. If the nose is not being drawn "just because" then, well it's hard to say that the artist is being lazy given the amount of care and detail with everything else, but that's really all that springs to mind is lazyness. I dunno, maybe I'm just *trying* to find things I don't like about it with the nose thing, but something just feels off with it I guess.

I think that's why I don't like it. Giant alien robots that have been at war for millions of years shouldn't look "pretty". Add to that, it's bordering on sexism, which is ironic given that they're trying to introduce the female gender into Transformers and do so by making her a typical girly girl instead of the bad she was originally being talked up as.
Posted by Sabrblade on March 16th, 2014 @ 3:52pm CDT
Hold it right there. She HASN'T been at war for "millions of years". She's a recent arrival to Cybertron, having not taken part in any war before now, and is only just now learning about Cybertron and all that's gone down. She's a complete noob here, a clean slate with no warfare history.Burn wrote:kaijuguy19 wrote:Also is it wrong to say that Windblade looks awfully pretty in it.?

She's still a alien robot in a franchise that has known nothing but war. Introducing her as a female and making her "pretty" is sexist.
That's just my opinion, don't like it? Don't care.
Posted by Sabrblade on March 16th, 2014 @ 5:01pm CDT
That's a pretty big generalization there since the war has been over since December 2011. They've been at peace ever since, however shaky it's been.Burn wrote:Okay, so she hasn't been at war.

What do you mean by "pretty"? Sure the artwork looks good, but the character herself isn't some sort of female version of Tracks, all obsessed with glamour and how stylish she looks. We barely know anything about what kind of person she is at this point.Burn wrote:Introducing her as a female and making her "pretty" is sexist.
If you think she looks "pretty", that's just you because beauty comes from a subjective viewpoint. Which, like you said, is okay because it's your opinion. But please don't think that she is defined by her looks.
After all, the following pic is the same character, but would you still call her "pretty" in this pic too?

But now that you have I have been resoundly corrected. All Hail Windblade! She is awesome! I totes cannot wait for this comic! Thank you for opening my eyes Sabrblade!

Hey Comics Fans! Here’s a sneak peek of the first page of Transformers Windblade Issue 1 with a reminder that there is still time to pre-order. We’re the first all-lady creative team writing/drawing a brand new lady robot and want to make this a big hit!
Signal boost like crazy! This is a great book with some knock out art! Plus it’s a fantastic introduction to the Transformers brand, for all those of you who’ve never been to Cybertron (and has some neat surprises for those of you already here). Thanks again!
'Till All Are One!

Real quick, just to make sure I got this, I print out the forum card, fill it out, and give it to the clerks over at the comic shop, and provided they accept, they preorder the comics?

Yep. You can also just ask them about it with the numbers, instead of using the card.
But up to you!

Steve: What do you think defines Windblade as a character? When you sat down with the character, what did you want to emphasize about her personality?
Sarah: What stands out for Windblade to me is her determination despite being completely overwhelmed. She’s thrust into this situation and conflict that most Cybertronians have had centuries to get adjusted to, but she has to adapt right now, and you can tell she’s behind the curve and it’s taking its toll. I wanted her to show signs of this weathering but she’s still trying her hardest anyway. She’s not perfect – she gets shaken up and lost, and I think we can all relate to that a little bit.
Mairghread: Our book starts a bit after the end of Dark Cybertron, so no one is in active triage-mode anymore as they would be during a huge life-or-death struggle like that was. Plus Windblade is an optimist. She really believes that she can help make Cybertron better, that everyone can help Cybertron be better. Whether or not she’s right, that’s a whole different story.

ComicsAlliance: Tell me about Windblade. What sort of story are you and Sarah telling?
Mairghread Scott: Transformers: Windblade is a four-issue miniseries designed to introduce longtime fans to a brand new character and new readers to the current Transformers world. So we really wanted to tell an honestly hopeful, fun story that showcased how human Transformers really are.
We also wanted to really show off the unique things we love most about Transformers as a brand. We have fight sequences that are not even possible in other stories. We have a dazzling array of character designs and relationships, and the world itself is just too lush not to explore. Our characters reside in a living city. They can turn into jets and they fight with axes. They live for thousands of years and have only recently stopped a civil war that almost killed them all. There are some amazing stories to be had in a place like this, and Sarah and I intend to exploit every angle we can to bring fans something that will really take their breath away.
CA: How did each of you come to this book?
MS: Like most comics work that I’ve been part of, it involved a unique dance of asking/begging, worrying, pitching, worrying and then actually doing it. I first heard about Windblade’s creation as a character and toy at a convention with my editor John Barber and I immediately asked to be involved if she got a comic. Of course it took a few months to get the timing right, but John did let me pitch on Windblade — which meant explaining who I thought she was, her backstory and what a miniseries would like like — and he liked it. The rest, as they say, is history.
Sarah Stone: I have Mairghread to thank for the opportunity. She found me through some of my fan art online, and then we started talking more once we met at a comic con. She was kind enough to involve me in a personal comic project she wanted to create a pitch for, and thats when she asked if I would be interested in having my name thrown in as an artist for a Transformers project. I couldn’t say “YES” fast enough!
[...]
CA: You’re also telling the story of a female Transformer, though not the first. As the Transformers are all robots, can you talk a little bit about what gender means in this fictional universe and how it’s represented?
MS Yes. IDW’s continuity has never had an “originally female” Transformer in it (the only female transformer in the line, Arcee, was made female against her will) so it was important to us that Windblade’s comic present a positive view of Lady Bots without having the characters beat everyone over the head with their gender.
The beauty of Transformers is that, by their very nature, they’re a very inclusive race. Some Bots turn into jets, or cars, or flying sharks. They can be as small as trash cans or as big as whole cities. So while Windblade and [fellow Transformer] Chromia’s gender makes them “different” to other Cybertronians, it’s a much bigger deal to our readers than it is to the characters in the book.

I've promoted my feelings from "indifference" to "cautious optimism."
Posted by Bumblevivisector on April 10th, 2014 @ 3:28pm CDT
Not sure it she means non-Transformer stories or non-comic stories, but I want to assume the latter because it implies this mini will be more violent than even TFs are allowed to get in cartoons, which is why I always preferred Marvel over Sunbow once I read the later U.S. issues. My biggest regret about Prime is that it came and went without Predaking caving in someone's head with a kick, making them convulse and spasm as the spewed their final life-fuel until until he wrenched it clean off their neck and squashed it flat in close up. Not that that sort of thing happens every issue, but there's always the outside possibility, whereas Prime was the most graphically violent cartoon the franchise will see for at least a decade, and it still wasn't quite there. We have fight sequences that are not even possible in other stories.
So, looking forward to this. It'll be years before I catch up from where I'm still stuck in the old TF ongoing, but I am looking forward to it.
