Thanks to our very own Chuckdawg1999, we have a new review for you today, this time for the Knight Armor Hound figure from Transformers: The Last Knight! Hound is a new mold that is simple in design but mainly designed for the knight armor gimmick, previously seen with Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Grimlock, and Megatron. Check out Chuck's review below, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!

chuckdawg1999 wrote:Hound is the last figure of the Knight Armor subline, of the Turbo Changer subline, of The Last Knight movie line. Transformation is simple as is articulation as the focus is more or the "Armor" gimmick, be aware that the arms like to stick going back into robot mode from the missile truck. While not the best figure of the Knight Armor subline, it does stand out enough to be worth a pickup.

So I just watched a comparison view video of the Leader Class Optimus Prime transformer from Hasbro Vs Takara's premium repaint and resculpt of parts. Wow! The backpack is now the shield! That is a partsformer I can live with. However, I kinda want to wait to see what a Masterpiece would look like.. Seeing as how the MPM-04 is based loosely on the Leader Class movies 1-3, the Leader class from this movie line with Takara's modification could bode well for the future Masterpiece of Optimus Prime the Last Knight version! I'm actually excited again about collecting! Okay...

Let's be honest fellow G-1 generation fans, who grew up with the first series, like me Don't you have that similar giddy Xmas feeling about this movie franchise?. With Welker, and Cullen on voice over. I've kinda grown to love the Bayformer universe in addition to my beloved G-1..hard to admit. Took 10yrs.but I'll say it. I love bayformers, and especially movie 1-3 Optimus Prime!

I don't know. I still haven't watched anything past the first movie. No real desire to watch the others though I do have a handful of TLK figures. I only like them for the alt modes and consider the transformation as an added bonus.

Checked out my Walmart; no new TLK figures, yet. Nothing but just Titans Return shelfwarmers, Berserkers, Slashes, and Grimlocks (not even RID is linguring!). There's a shop called "Gamer's World" at the Water Tower Place close by to my college; think of it as a less neon and more hobby themed Hot Topic. There are a handful of action figures there (mainly those weird 3 3/4 inch Kenner esque figurines and some video game characters), which made me wonder as to why they haven't gone ahead and sold stuff like Marvel Legends or the Generations themed TFs, be it from the current lines (TLK, Titans) or the previous lines like Combiner Wars or AOE? I've check out some comic shops; those were far from where I live and I'm starting to get pretty upset that either I have to deal with stores aren't stocked before Christmas, or find nothing but a bajillion Funko Pops that take up space in small shops (even FYE sold AOE Deluxes there along with some Marvel Legends).

On the plus side, there are a few Targets close to me (by close, I mean located near where I used to live), and they're starting to have more items than the many Walmarts that are all tales of two halves. Hopefully, I can wait until XMas approaches so I can get them at lower prices since getting the Switch recently got me broke.

He is really cool! I'd say Dragonstorm is easily my favorite Legion class toy of this line. It's a real shame that they waited until Wave 3 before releasing it. You'd think they'd want to promote the mascot character for this movie the same way they did Grimlock in the AoE line by releasing his stuff first.

I haven't heard anything about Legion Hound aside from Chefatron's review. It didn't sound like he liked it, but I say see for yourself. Always best to form one's own opinion.

Also, I got Deluxe Strafe in the mail today. Haven't opened him yet, but I'd be more than happy to post comparison images with the AoE one if anyone's interested.

I'm not the right age to have grown up only on the G1 cartoon, but a couple G2 VHS tapes I got from a friend in my younger years did form a sizeable portion of my childhood Transformers consumption, so I'll chime in here with perhaps a somewhat unique viewpoint.

Looking back on the earlier Transformers movies I do appreciate them for what they are. The first movie especially was, all things considered, a fairly good adaptation of the 'bots we love onto the big screen (at least, now that we've seen where it can get to *COUGHLASTKNIGHTCOUGH*, it's definitely fairly good by comparison). The character designs weren't super-faithful to the old ones but they did look and feel like Transformers, and I'll agree with you that Optimus especially had a pretty great design. (That RoTF Leader Prime is still fantastic, even if the arms are a little janky by my unreasonably-high standards!)

Now here's where it gets interesting, though - my appreciation for the first three movies may well be somewhat steeped in nostalgia on top of any actual quality they may have had. I was eight when the first one came out (It was actually my first above-PG movie ever, I was a somewhat sheltered child  ) and it left a real impact on me seeing my favorite 'bots up on the big screen, so naturally I'm going to hold it in high regard just on that childhood experience alone. For the next two, doing the math, I'd have been 10 and 12 - so still within that age bracket to feel nostalgic for them (even only 5 or so years down the line). So I guess, rather than simply calling back to my younger years, having the Bayverse movies be part of my younger years has given me that (somewhat guilty) appreciation for them that you describe.

(To stay on topic just a little bit: I don't think I need to say much about my thoughts on TLK other than to mention that after we saw it, my friend and I sat in my car for about 45 minutes and just screamed at the universe in general, but I'm still really liking a lot of the new toys for this line... those I can find anyway :BOOM: )

Since we're talking about nostalgia, all I can say is that wven though I first heard of Transformers by Cybertron, the first movie was what got me hooked into the franchise, and I love looking back at the days when I can pop in the original trilogy DVDs and have fun recreating scenes with my figures while watching Animated on TV with my younger brother. AOE and TLK were bitter sweet for me, but I can't help but feel warm towards the excitement of the return of the franchise after sort of drought past 2011 and before 2014 (even though there's the Universal ride that I STILL haven't gone to :-( ), and I will always have huge thanks to the Movie Autobots for kicking ass and making me into car collecting, Cybertron with its weird but charming animation, and Animated's Teen Titans/Ben 10 spunk for bringing me into the franchise.

Moving on with the TLK line, I've been looking up Voyager Megatron at walmart.com, and for 26.86, that's not a bad deal. Plus, with a coupon I got from Hasbro, I can get him for 10 dollars less! Question for anyone that has him: is there a way you can remove the head if there is an alternate headsculpt on the way by Dr. Wu and the like?

Absolutely, it's attached by a balljoint if memory serves ;)^ I'll check and confirm when I get home, but I can all but guarantee that you can pop the head off and replace it if you so desire (and if there's a replacement head with the right diameter balljoint-socket, of course).

We always like pictures :D

And I really wanted some legions because A) they are actually getting new molds and B) the legions work great with some larger figures, such as Crosshairs, Drift, and Hound riding my dinobots, Megatron to go with Infernocus, and Dragonstorm just looks awesome.

Just wish the original molds had been released first, instead of the repaints. Legions and deluxes were doomed with wave 1 (and voyagers too)

So it could be possible that a third party picks up that main villain and gives us a figure.. hopefully..Hmm..

Well, we will see.. I am still pissed at Hasbro for releasing such a cheap Optimus Prime for the TLK movie, and Takara had to re-engineer parts, and paint apps for a more accurate CALIBUR movie figure. Why Hasbro is going so cheap on things is beyond me, I mean, do they want to drive their adult high end market to only Takara Tomy and Chinese Third Party manufacturers? Come on Hasbro! :HEADHURTS:

Image

I want a Masterpiece of the Western Star Model Optimus Prime, but if I have to wait I'll get that Calibur version, it's just sooooo super sexy! I love it!

Taken from driftsedge.deviantart.com Drift Edge's DA page shows here that he has to even paint his Hasbro version of TLK Prime.
Image

I mean Why? why can't Hasbro release the cheaper version for kids, okay I get that.. What happened to their policy back in the day when they did the premium versions with better paint apps? Does Takara Tomy only care about their Adult collectors??

The "Premium Series" versions were a one-time thing for the 2007 movie I'm afraid. No other movie had that in any shape or form. Besides, the Premier Editions only reflect the Generations-style molds used, nothing more. They're just as subject to paint and packaging budget as any other regular toy.

I'm actually kinda optimistic about that Wave 4 Deluxe assortment, honestly. The only three Deluxes I want from this line are Crosshairs, NuBee and Cogman, so if this wave comes through locally I won't need to worry about whether I missed any other waves or not :D . And of course, given the rate things are moving around here, it's quite possible that Wave 1 will be cleared out juuust in time for stores to restock with Wave 4

Hmmm. I suppose it's just bottom line capitalism, anyways. I would love it if we could get a Hot Rod repaint in a more traditional style with flames. I just can't understand why for the life of me Hot Rod wasn't presented mostly red. With some yellow flames...in the movie, maybe the next final one will have him in that style.

I guess they didn't want to upstage Optimus Prime..or Cullen

Oh that's right! So, I just don't know why they decided to not do hot rod in his flame decor..I'd love to know the reason for that...my biggest question about the movie designs. The figure is actually quite nice.

So, it's been a fair while since this I guess... but I finally found the two at a Target myself today! Just one of each and there wasn't even a price tag - which, naturally, meant that I forgot that TLK Voyagers are $59 at Target instead of the regular $50 and so I ended up spending an unplanned extra $20 at the register. Fun. Anyways, if it matters at all, that's some confirmation that these guys are indeed hitting Target - but if I could advise Australian hunters, hold out if you can, I don't doubt they'll be turning up at other less-stupidly-priced venues in the coming weeks. I finally got in wave 3 Bumblebee today after ordering him off Amazon (for retail plus shipping, fortunately) and he's a bit of a mixed bag for me. The negatives were some loose pins/connection pegs in the ankles and loose hips. I fixed the hips with pieces of tissue for now but I'll have to buy Future floor polish for the feet. His leg armor is also a bit funky - it's got a nice build and form on the inside of his legs but it's a bit bare and almost concave on the outside. The gun arm is also tough to swap out so I won't be doing it much, I could easily see the connection joints bending from constant removal gradually. The positives are fantastic though - his head sculpt (and the rest of him, really) is fantastic and the chest design works great. He doesn't even have the small flaps above his shoulders like the Human Alliance and MP have. Plus he has the extra little wings of MPM-3 and his roof/hood/windshields fold into his back in a similar but simpler way. This guy was definitely worth the wait for me, far better than the AoE/TLK wave 1 version of the character. He's very likely going to be the definitive deluxe Bumblebee on my shelf next to Evasion Bee.

I dont understand, the Takara TLK line is the exact same Last Knight toys as Hsbro in the same boxes with a takara sticker on them. Takara is giving the same toys as Hasbro for this line so they dont care either.

Look how proud they were of showing off their new BB (which is the same crummy redeco as Hasbro's)

Takara and Hasbro's deluxe Cogman toy from theire repestice toylines for Transformers: The Last Kight are the exact same toys. But, there is one big difference between the two: one is now released in the US and the other has been postponed indefinitely.

Hasbro's is curently shipping from Entertainment Earth, however, Takara has made an announcement that their release of Cogman will not be coming out in OCtober. Instead, it has been postponed to a later time with no date given. So those banking on the Takara release to secure their Cogman may need to seek different options, or simply be patient for more news. We will report if anything else comes up.

So I amazingly found a Voyager Skorn and Nitro Zeus(still no Wave 2 Deluxes in North Central West Virginia...), and I must comment about my initial impressions of Nitro Zeus....

The design is really cool, knew about the transformation because of a couple comments fiddled with it and think I've got the hang of it except for one thing..

THE HEAD. Is it just supposed to be wedged in the space between the feet in vehicle mode? The instructions show you turning it around and doing...something. Why is this guy a Headmaster anyway, because they got to a certain point in the design and said "Uh, we don't have the budget to engineer a hinge or other place to put the head...hmmm....let's just pull it off!". Of course the head is also very loose in robot mode, but manageable.

Is that AOE or TLK Optimus? Did you paint him?

That's the Lsat Knight voyager, and yep, I painted him basically head to toe.

Ummm...isn't there a hinge so it folds back in between the 2 feet? The shoulder cannons and neck assembly hinge forward, the the neck assembly has its own separate hinge to rotate the head back in between the feet. Not that I care, I've already lost the head and replaced it with Thunderwing.

Excellent, I have a question for you. I just snagged my Nitro today at lunch and will be putting Thunderwing on him later tonight. I actually got Nitro on Monday, but he broke 7-8 steps into the initial transformation, so I never got around to transforming the head. Does the transformation work with leaving Thunderwing's head on? I'm guessing the cockpit doesn't open, so I'm hoping the head can just stay in place. Also, if it does stay in place, do you have to rortate it 180 like the directions say for Nitro's head? Thanks in advance.

Side note: Nitro's head works really well on TR Megatron.

The cockpit does open and you can fit any headmaster in, but not nitro's head. You can also leave thunderwing in place with no worries. I rotate it so the head doesn't look out.

Double function bonus! Thanks!

This really makes me think that this mold was originally for TR before they decided all voyagers would be triple changers.

Cos it would look tacky on an extremely expensive modern day Lamborghini. Maybe he'll pop up in the 80's in a Trans-Am alt-form where a flame decal wouldn't look totally out of place.

Anyways quite happy with my Hot Rod, now where's my darn Wave 3 Bee for crying out loud?

I thought that's what the instructions indicated. I'll fiddle with it here...

Oh, and the assembly popped out. Least now I can see the hinge, and after some more finagling...

Ah, there we go, got it! Thanks! Tight hinge there on mine.

The reason hes a headmaster is pretty much the same thing that happened before with revenge of the fallen arcee. something that was intended to happen in the movie that got scrapped, but was still engineered into the toy. Back when they were talking about cogmans character they said he was a headmaster, but more like the headmaster from animated. he was going to have a scene where he ripped off another robots head and took its place. It was never stated who's head he was supposedly going to be ripping off, and it never ended up happening in the movie, but given hes the only other TLK toy designed for the headmaster gimmick, but his head itself doesn't transform, Id'e say its a good bet Nitro was to be the victim.

side not, TM Megatron's head is a perfect match for nitro, and makes for one badass megs.

Speaking of Nitro, amyone else plan to give him Shockwave's head? I want to buy a DOTM Shockwave for spare parts and I've been wondering if you can remove the Titan Master head and put it in the ball joint socket on SW's head.

Probably not without some type of shapeways adapter. The ball on the other side of the TM head is quite a bit smaller than the ball used on most non-TM heads. In fact, I'm guessing you can get an adapter that has the right size "cube" for a TM head on one side and the right size ball for the non-TM figure heads on the other.

If I were you, I'd wait on doing that first to see if Takara might do something just like that for a potential Movie the Best version of Nitro.

On the topic of Nitro and his loose neck, I played around with it last (k)night to see if I could do anything to remedy it. Compared to most TR neck sockets it's a tricky one, since it's pretty much empty all round it and it's hard to tell what space needs to be left empty and what doesn't (I spent 10 minutes trying to fit a piece of credit card behind the neck socket before realizing that his head occupies all the way to the back of the socket). In the end, I came up with:

    - 2 pieces of credit card (or similar-thickness plastic) on one side of the neck socket, 3 pieces on the other; 3 on each side is too much and the head can't fit in, 2 on each side does nothing at all
    - a small snip of regular printer paper, folded over itself 3 times, in the front of the neck-socket; it'll curve a bit to fit in front of the "latch" at the front of the socket, but that's the way it'll work
It doesn't seem like it'll work looking at it, but it does - his head turns smoothly and easily, with little to no wobbling! I haven't actually tested any TR heads with the 'fixed' neck socket but I see no reason they wouldn't work - his own head can definitely still go off and on without difficulty.

Here's a quick pic of what I mean, if my words don't make any sense (which of course they don't):
Image

Here's what you can see when the head's on, doesn't look too bad:

And bonus extra shot of Nitro posed a little awkwardly, for no reason other than I like this toy and it's fun:

No issues with it actually staying on on my end, just wobbling around like crazy (we're talking Scourge/Highbrow levels of wobble here, if not more). It didn't interfere with the functionality of the toy honestly, more like it just annoyed me enough that I didn't mind spending an hour or so to get this otherwise-cool toy working the way I wanted :D

The gun arm on Wave 3 Bee will loosen over time, it's just a mushroom peg. What I recommend with Nitro's head is rotating it then pushing it back, lifting the small panel slightly BEFORE bringing the whole neck section forward, as seen in my video review. His head is loose but holds in quite well.
