And so, it looks like the principal shooting for Paramount's latest project with Michael Bay, Transformers: The Last Knight, has ended its main shooting for at least the main human cast - though it looks like there may be some additional days for other aspects, all according to the original plan for ending on 15th October. Both the movie's official social media and cast member Isabela Moner have celebrated the event by posting images and thanks on their feeds - check out a couple below, featuring the cars in London and the humans Mark Wahlberg, Laura Haddock and Josh Duhamel!

Then again, they didn't have enough time last movie to say Drift's name...

Drift not only never had his name said in movie, but was only shown transforming between car mode and robot mode once onscreen in the whole movie, and said transformation was only in the background obscured entirely by Bumblebee's own transformation, so we practically got to see none of Drift's car-to-robot transformation.
His helicopter/robot transformations were shown onscreen, though.

I kid I kid. None of the dinobots were called by name either, too bad. I do still find it super weird how Optimus speaks to them in ancient cybertronian and yet they dont speak back to him, as if they cant speak at all.And then Optimus speaks to them in english, so I really wonder if there was even a point to speaking cybertronian.

I'm pretty sure that was just a nickname he gave him, he wouldnt know the character's name. it's like if I see a dog I dont know and go, "come here Fido!".

Crosshairs was called out by name when they were on Lockdown's ship.
The only time Drift's name was used was in the scene leading up to Galvatron's attack, and it was on the aerial viewscreen the humans were using.
Hound was used a good bit

YES, I do remember that part on the screen! No wonder it was odd to hear it hadnt been used. Since it was so clear there, but yeah it was never mentioned by anyone.

In the context of that scene in ROTF,Lennox refers to all of the bikes as Arcee, like a single entity and is calling out the tiwns,Skids and Mudflap.
About all the bikes being Arcee was canon at some point.

But he doesn't pause there is no clear evidence he is referreing to Arcee (comma) and The Twins: he just says it all as one name/title, unless this was just poor delivery on the actors part, and nobody else bothered to care to catch it.

Agreed.
Not to mention that immediately after that order was given, we see first the Arcee bikes
and then the Twins in their ice cream truck configuration
both chasing after Sideways. The rest of the order given was "Target coming your way!" and in the scene, Sideways is indeed driving in the direction towards the Twins before turning away from them as one of them says "'Kay, I got'em, I got'em," while Arcee's three bikes only ever follow
behind Sideways the whole time, meaning the target wasn't coming Arcee's way but instead the Twins' way since Sideways was only ever seen driving away from Arcee while he nearly ran into Skids and Mudflap before turning away from them.

I hate that scene. The deception car had no chance, we never even saw its robot form right. It was just a car that got sliced in half.

Making a good TRANSFORMERS film is simple.
1) Character development. of the robots! THEY R PEOPLE, not shiny wallpaper to explode.
b) no humans
thirdly... care about what u r doing.

To be fair, Transformers fiction often seems to be better when there's no humans - or at least has their involvement be minimal. Many would hold up Beast Wars as the best cartoon and the only 'humans' in that were introduced very near the end and actually factored in as a plot point rather than being a forced human friend or setting.
And then there's the MTMTE comics which, by virtue of their setting, never have any humans in it. Period. Don't even think about saying holomatter avatars
That said... I do believe it can be done well. Sari in Animated was a good example imo, and I think that the Headmaster/Targetmaster/Powermaster/anything-master format holds a lot of potential. The problem is that most of the time human companions are a forced necessity that feel in the way and annoying rather than doing anything to add to or progress the story - what makes Sari and the -masters so good is that they do in some way tie into and progress the story rather than just being a forced necessary evil.
The humans in Bayformers... well, I understand why they're there. You can't as easily make a movie focusing purely on the Cybertronians, the CGI budget would need to be astronomical for that - so you need some scenes with humans. But imagine we're in a world where that budget does exist. I challenge even those who like the movies here; would taking out the humans in the movies be a negative in any way, cost and popularity aside? Because I honestly don't see a single good thing the human characters add to the movies in a purely story/character-focused sense.

As I've previously referred to the Rescue Bots cartoon as being pretty much the antithesis of the movies, it's also pretty much the definitive win-all answer to how to have GOOD humans used WELL in Transformers fiction.
william-james88 wrote:G1 had humans, is the 86 film terible?
Humans or no, as a movie it's nothing great by any standard other than animation and music, I'll say.

Unpopular opinion but something I agree with, aye. Much like the cartoon itself I find it a fun little thing to watch but nothing to take particularly seriously; it's pretty standard stuff (though also with the non-standard MASS KILLING SPREE OF YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTERS OH MY GOD HASBRO CALM DOWN)
... though what it also has that the cartoon doesn't is a ridiculously amazing soundtrack that fills you with 80s glee. I was born in 1996 and I can feel the 80s; let's not even get started on how Hot Rod's vehicle mode is the most ridiculously over-the-top meld of cheesy, what people thought the future would be and hot 80s awesomeness.

The 2016 Brand Licensing Expo is on and Hasbro has a big display. For Transformers fans, the biggest take away so far are new character portraits based on what Megatron, Bumblebee and Optimus will look like in the upcoming Transformers: The Last Knight film. These are giant cardboard cut outs and they are very reminiscent of the character profiles from Age of Extinction promotional posters. These were found on arun09345's
instagram page.
Enjoy!

Looking at these more simplified versions of th movie designs, I think, really highlights the worsening flaws in the bayformers visual philosophy. NO CAR PARTS. STREAMLINE, STREAMLINE, STREAMLINE.
Optimus and megstron don't look capable of transforming into anything, and the effects on bumblebee are starting to show.

THIS.
...I don't hate these designs, they're growing on me but...they don't look like they transform anymore. Almost like they got turned into Action Masters or something...it's not really a deal-breaker (yet), but it's getting annoying...

I agree with you, but, to be fair, we don't know what Megs turns into. It could be something pseudo-organic, like the dragon we saw on the poster from a a while ago (keeping in theme with the

)

I don't hate them, and really I want to see how they look in the final film before I develop an opinion totally. I know I liked Megatron's RotF design the most, but his jet/spaceship design in the 07 movie was what I preferred until RotF came out. DotM design was...well... it was a truck and I feel like Optimus Prime should always be a truck or so. It was an interesting change though I guess.
Sabrblade wrote:The horns on Megatron's helmet are making me think of a ram.
He does have a very "Ultron-esque" look in my opinion. Doesn't make it instantly terrible and ruined forever. I'd kind of like if they gave him a more G1 inspired look now though, but that's wishful thinking at this point.

Everyone complains about the AOE Leader Optimus toy for being an absolutely notorious shellformer - and rightly so - but it's designs like this that make me realise why. How would you have done a non-shellformer toy of the AOE Optimus design? Or this Optimus design? He has the smokestacks at the back, but... that's it.
Say what you will about the previous movie Primes - and I can say a lot - but at least you could get a toy that turned into a truck out of them. I don't think we're in for a good time toys-wise here.

I didn't even buy any of the toys from the last movie, save for a marked-down Snarl at Ross and that was just because it was my favorite dinosaur in my favorite color. A couple others were gifted to me, but they were all disappointments in the transformation area. All those figures just left me with a weird hollow feeling, they hardly felt like Transformers at all.

The skirts and lack of kibble make them look like weird Transformer/Gundam crossover characters. I personally like it. It's not a bad look for the movies, but for the toys it would look better as a five or seven inch figure than a Transformable vehicle.

ROTF Optimus only has some actual truck parts on his chest and lower legs and they found a way. Of course, it was a different time, but more recent example of achieving this look would be AOE Hound. He has totally different detail in Robot mode than Truck mode with only the arm panels left from the truck. Everything else is new. They did it hrough the genius idea of transforming him nside out where every detail comes from the oposite side of a panel. And thats great because it gives a good interpretation of these designs where all that robot detail is found inside the vehicle where the robot is disguised. And the robot is made from all the truck innards.
What I am trying to say is that there is a way, we just havent seen it yet for this Optimus.
Also, I think Hasbro gathered that we preffer seeing car parts since they gave Bumblebee back his car part chest.

He was very fine the last movie. Galvatron could have been a temporary name for Megatron, like a film's working title. That is my guess.

Given the new character's appearances, I think they struck a fine balance between the two different movie looks. Prime only looks the same because he's in space and can't find an alt-mode to scan.

If i didnt know that was megatron id think it was from some random anime, they really need to start making these guys look like transformers and less like megaman/gundam characters. Bumblebees back to his old generic self but at least it has some resemblance to a transformer.
