We've got more Transformers Bumblebee tie ins for you to look at now, this time courtesy of the Transformers Studio Series line! It's been confirmed that Studio Series numbers 24 + 25 Target exclusives with a listing now live on their website!
The set consists of a redeco of VW Alt Mode Bumblebee and slight redeco of Bumblebee from his The Last Knight toyline release. Its interesting to note that the VW Beetle Bee is the sane as the recently announced Takara Studio Series exclusive "Rusty" VW Bee.
The double pack is currently retailing for $39.99. The folks over at fellow Transformers fan site TFW2005 have also reported that the codes for this set have been registering in some Targets in store systems as being in stock, so there's a chance you may even be able to find this set in store.
Also we have some good news for Australian fans as this set has also appeared online at the Kmart website! The set is retailing currently for 45AUS$ and is a great chance for Australian fans to snap up this set.
What do you think about this set? Let us know in the Energon Pub and stay tuned to Seibertron for all the latest news and reviews.

Still better than Bandai America's usual paint budget

...though I'm not sure if it would have counted as a premium deco, definitely authentic.
I wonder if anyone will try and remove the "rust" from this Bee like folks are planning on doing with the "battle damage" on the Siege figures?

Oh I have them both. So no. I do not.

Uhh, they could just buy the regular version that doesn't have any rust?... Anyway, I'm still trying to find the regular version of VW Bee, but no luck from either Target or Walmart. I did find the Retro Mix. Vol. 2 set in a ThinkGeek store. But for 70$ and Bee being so small, along with me having little interest in the cassettes, I'm going to pass on it. I will pick up the regular version if I find it, unless I get the Masterpiece.

eBay best place to get that one cheap from G1 collectors who bought it just for the tapes and want to sell the Bee. That's how I got my boxed brand new 'Goldbug' for £20 when the full set costs £60.

Agreed! Give them a single alt mode at a time, have them scan a new one when they need it.
That scene in the Bee trailer when Shatter and Dropkick fly in, transform into cars for a moment, then again into bots is cringe-inducing. Takes me right out of the movie.

Really? I thought it was pretty awesome, if not a little superfluous. Probably because the designs are too detailed and already require complicated engineering to pull off the movie accurate robots with realistic alt-modes. Triple changers in other lines have to make sacrifices as is to all three modes. Pulling off a believable muscle car and helicopter and semi screen accurate movie bot in plastic would be a difficult feat of engineering.ZeroWolf wrote:I'm a bit confused why don't they mix exactly? Surely if they're designed as triple changers from the get go and this movie is acting as a soft reset, then I'm not sure I see a problem?
A lot of the movie figures already struggle with just two screen accurate modes.

Even being able to convert between an Earth car and a not-trying-to-look-Earthly vehicle mode (beyond just a G1 Tracks-style "car sprouts wings" flight mode, and even then..) would require some complex engineering, possibly reaching ROTF Optimus levels of complexity for the whole figure - and the smaller a toy, the harder that is to do (Plus the Studio series it seems is oft. unwilling to get too complex even on Leader-class figures *glares at DOTM Megatron*). Even if you don't have to worry about keeping the other mode Earthly in appearance, you still have to worry about stashing its parts away. Say the other mode is a helicopter - where do you hide the engine, the main rotor, the tail, and the tail rotor?

It's one of my fave bits of the trailers. Certainly prefer it to certain other scenes which make no damn sense...

The car shell could split in just a few more ways. Then the arms and the legs of the bot itself can be used to make the tail of the copter and other parts. Finally for the rotorblade, go the classic route and cheat with a sword accessory.
Same thing for one who could have a beast mode. Stashing an extra head is easy and the rest is just to change the stance of the bot mode, like they did for Beast Wars and Prime Beast Hunters.
Too many fan modes on deluxes that are designed with only 2 modes DO work. They just have to work around this general idea while adding just 2 or 4 extra parts.

Some of these redesigns are so sick that would be shame if dont get a toy or two from them.
To be fair though, the new Siege line is pretty much just that
And now we know what Siege is scaled to
IMO I prefer some of the Cybertronians designs of the trailer that the Siege ones.

I always assumed this was Drift was going for.The reason nobody could guess what kind of helicopter he was,is because he was made up one.

That's why I wonder why they never botheted to make an actual triple changing Drift in toy form. They could have designed the cyber compter with the toy in mind.

... with lots of Bugatti Veyron kibble. Seriously though, compared to other lines the Movie designs were relatively kibble free, with the robot mode featuring few hints of its alt mode. Some toys tried to mimic that by basically making a vehicle shell surrounding a robot performing extreme feats of yoga, hoping the kibble is easily ignored. That goes double for AoE and on, so making a triple changing toy with two realistic vehicles was pretty much doomed from the start; no opportunity for parts to do double duty.
The solution? Give each alt mode its own toy. Added benefit: more profit

Now, I know that seems to clash with how I've poo-poo'd the idea of making Jetfire outright combine with Optimus and favored doing the Jetpower armor as its own accessory set because I think trying to get the combo right and not compromise Jetfire overmuch would be extremely difficult at best (especially with the Studio Series' complexity-shyness). But I think that because they didn't outright combine in the movie - Jetfire's corpse was dismantled and kitbashed (which is why doing a combining toy without compromising Jetfire, the combo, or both would be so difficuly), so it wouldn't be a case of lacking a feature the movie heavily showed off. Whereas triple-changing.. That's something Drift and now Dropkick do outright do in their debut movies but that the toys don't have and could never hope to have.

The sighting was made by fellow Seibertron user, ScottyP, who also shared this photo with us.
The toys were found at Target in Holly Springs, NC. They were retailing for the usual price of $19.99.
Dropkick is a brand new mold and features the upcoming Transformers Bumblebee movie villain in his helicopter alt mode only. KSI Sentry is a redeco of wave 1 Stinger.

Oh my god how many times do I have to explain retails to people?! Stores order their own stuff! Wave one is directly forced into stores and after that the stores order future waves themselves. It’s not hasbro a fault if retailers are sitting on a ton of old stuff it’s the store itself. Hasbros drive like everyone else is to make money. It’s not their fault if your store is sitting on old waves because they don’t control that.

Yeah I go an extra five miles or so to the store I saw Dropkick/KSI Sentry at because they actually tend to move product, therefore they're more likely to have newer stuff. Thinking of other recent stuff, this same Target is one of only a few where I ever saw the last wave of RiD Crash Combiners.Randomhero wrote:reluctantyouth wrote:Nice to see these are hitting. I won't speak for everyone else, but I ALSO like to support employment in my community. I get that the money doesn't stay here, but at least the people that live here will have jobs as long as people continue to support retail. Futile though it may be.
Anyways, those legs on Megatron really bum me out. The alt mode looks awesome, though.

I live in Des Moines which has 7 targets and 7 or 8 Walmart’s(it’s part of my job to know these things nexuses I’m a vendor) and I know exactly which ones move faster and which ones don’t. Mileage will vary per store. There’s two by residence that get the new waves relatively quick so I’ve been scoping them out very few days and both were the ones I saw KSI and Dropkick.
For some people online retail might be the best but I personally enjoy going out and finding them. The reasons online retailers have and get stuff faster than some actual stores is because they’re run by nerds or they just know what sell. Transformers are a 4 foot block in a store that’s over 15-20,000 square feet. To them it’s one of over 5,000 products they carry

Well, the MH-53 is 88' and the SuperCobra is 53'.
Of course, that's still way too huge compared to a muscle car but the Bumblebee movie's director seems to be something of a Geewunner without regard for the movieverse's established size rules (it's even worse of a size cheat than Evasion-mode Optimus).

Top left you can see him holding a huge weapon of Jetfire parts with his right arm.
Also they have the first SS Prime on the right and you can see how much brighter the new one combined to Jetfire on the left is. Forearms on the new one are worrying me a bit. Hoping just mistransformed or something. They look fine in the promo pics.

As for the forearms, that looks to be a case of the panels being reconfigured halfway to vehicle mode to aid in the combination.

Yeah, also there are places where you can get the latest Seige and Studio Series figures, Hasbro Toy Shop, Amazon, Ebay, etc.
Also I work at a Toy Shop and it's not the individual stores that make the orders, we get boxes of stuff sent from the big warehouses, some boxes have collections of random toys for different parts of the shop, so if you're upset with the content of your shops, complain to the head office, don't take it out on us employees.

So is Studio Series just going to be the Catch-all for all movie toys now? I’m fine with that, but boy howdy did the quality take a bit of a dive there.
Maybe it’s just my expectations being too high; after years of dreaming for an actually decent Bonecrusher figure, it probably would never have held up anyway.

Well, at this point it does seem to have wound up with as much Bumblebee Movie content as the actual Bumblebee Movie line, if not more. Hasbro might wanna consider repackaging.
The Constructicons look stupid because the Studio Series designers A. seem to have a complexity aversion and B. Insisted on (or were shackled with the mandate of) making ROTF 'Structies that both had independent robot modes and combine to form Devastator.
Is this Bonecrusher at least better than the Movie 1 Deluxe? Or about the same?

Bonecrusher looks good to me too. His 2007 Deluxe figure was fine and a fun toy but just too small. This one looks a lot better for scale. And since he's not part of Devastator I can just buy him on his own to fight Prime. Finally.
Anyways that me my final say til new photos and stuff appear. Have a good weekend, folks.
