And there you have it! The rest of Studio Series Wave 1 revealed, which includes some of the most iconic Autobots and fearsome Decepticons to ever grace the silver screen! We DARE you to not be excited (wink wink). Available for pre-order starting now at most major retailers or in stores starting February 2021.
So what do you all think? Does that Blurr really beat Takara's Legends Blurr from a few years back?

I got all the SS 86 figures on Amazon

Only figure I'm a bit disappointed in is blurry and his giant arm sleeves.
Also not feeling hot rod as a voyager - maybe they need a new designation like deluxe+.
I also hope that if they do a rodimus figure it's not going to incorporate this toy and we end up buying the same figure twice. If they are indeed going for an all out homage, would make sense that they don't bother with the hot rod figure like the POTP and go for an update of the original toy, with the winnebago opening up into a "weapons platform", which would make sense with them making many figures able to connect. And I reckon that platform was the most fun bit for me as kid cos the figure was bonkers crap.

Just like the G1 toy.Sabrblade wrote:Nope. A little door/panel opens up to reveal it in vehicle mode instead.Mechastrike wrote:does Scourge head pop out when in alt-mode?
It is a bit of a shame, since Generations Scourge had it on an extension strut IIRC and with Titans Return you could plug his head into the altmode's aftcastle.
Definitely getting Scourge, Grimlock, and Kup (if I was able to get a TR Kup with rounded limbs without buying the Legends version I'd be less eager to get hold of him, but I still like him). I want to like Hot Rod, but the faux-parts chest really bugs me... Blurr is a lowe-priority maybe. Don't get me wrong, I think he's good (and the lankiness works with him being a swift runner), but with my having a repainted Titans Return Blurr it's kinda a lateral move. Plus TR Blurr has wrist rotation.

Happy enough with Takara Legends so it is great to be able to save some money.
I might wait on Grimlock until seeing the other dinobots, if it ever becomes too hard or pricey to get I'm happy using MP grimlock alongside WFC toys.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. If the windshield on his chest is the same as in altmode, I think he has to have a shield (even if he's not seen holding it).blackeyedprime wrote:Well at least we know why Blurr wasnt in WFC, no shield lol
...and he has no ports to arm mount it. IMO that nudges him towards being inferior to TR/Legends Blurr.

I was hoping for alternate paint schemes, like maybe a white Scavenger AKA Demolishor, a yellow Long Haul (Payload), etc. would have been cool

Threads are merged together again, aint got no time to deal with the minutia especially when the news is still combined for both fronts, and I don't want my newstaff losing time making sure things are in the right thread rather than newsing. So let's all learn to get along with with the various studio series toys.

I like this one better, it's much more accurate.
When they said 14 and then did the breakdown the way they did, I was ready to throw stuff at them.

After the SS86 reveals I was like "oh, ok, so there'll be an 86 wave and a Bayverse wave" which sounded great. And then the headmasters showed up and my hopes and dreams disintegrated much like the Matrix.

Mine did too. I wonder if they will actually do a wave with the 86 bots mixed into bayverse stuff, or if we can expect a wave 2 of 86 bots and then we only get 1 wave of live action bots, or even if they do 3 waves of 86 and live action sits out a year.
I got so depressed as I wrote that.

Wait, can we go back please? SS-86 kinda is its' own thing - it's separated into waves by itself and has its own numbering system. I would understand mixing them if the two were mixed in waves, but they seem to be fairly separate.

Well, the thing is we have the listings for new Bayverse SS (ROTF Bee, Jolt, Dino, Grindor, etc.), and I don't think we'd get those listings over a year before the figures came out. My expectations get lower with each passing month, but maybe we'll alternate 86 and Bayverse waves this year?

I kinda liked the clarity of the SS86 toys having their own thread (and they've got their own separate numbering and all), but eh.
Still holding out hopes that once SS86 has had its day and given us what it needs to, we get DotM Devcon.

And call me rude but that Jazz just looks like a clunky cyberverse kids focused toy. something about his whole figure looks so goofy. And while blurr and Kup look very accurate to the OG movie, sometimes I wonder how much accuracy is too much accuracy. That's why I've loved WFC, because it's given us some classic characters with a modern twist where it needs it. Some of these figures just look like 3d versions of their 80s animation models, and everyone can admit that those looked pretty goofy sometimes, especially for today.
But the more i look at some of these, the more I see things on the bright side. Grimlock does looks very solidly built dispite being a pretty massive figure, im grateful they didn't sacrifice hollow parts for size. And admittedly the wheelie figure does look fun. And the conversions on all these figures look really unique and fun, unlike the frequent rehashing we got throughout most of the PWT.
All in all, while i really wish they could've given Grimlock a darker, more war-torn paint job, his panel detailing is great and the sculpt is overall solid. And he's big, thank goodness. And if they decide to give us voyagers and leaders of the rest of the dinobots, my remaining complaints about Grimlock will disappear lol. I'm kind of going through the same emotional justification to try and like these as I had to do when they revealed Earthrise, and I did in fact end up loving everything earthrise has offered, so im hoping the same good thing will happen here. We'll see in time, I guess.
That's my rant of the year lol.

Grimlock used his sword in the cartoon?
If so I don't even remember, I just remember him using that multi-barreled gun and sometimes laser fists.

Someone tweeted about this this week: Grimlock never used his sword in the cartoon or the movie. He used A sword ONCE, but it was just a generic metal colored sword.

All of once, in "Madman's Paradise", where he swatted aside boulders with it. Like Snarl's sword, it was colored as shining silver (as per his packaging art, the commercials, and the Diaclone toy).ZeroWolf wrote:The issue about Grimlocks sword is this: he never used it in the movie, and I'm struggling to remember how many times he used it in the series.
The sword would be nice to have, don't get me wrong, but I understand us not getting it with him; most of his mass allowance went to his actual body, and some of what was left got used up on the Wheelie minifigure (Whether that's a worthwhile trade is debatable).
I wonder if a Leader Swoop would have the spare mass for other Dinobots' accessories.
Pretty sure it was meant to be his sword (it's missing a lot of the detail aside from the square crossguard, but that's Season 3's animation quality for you, and the Marvel comics were often as bad). And the metal color jibes with his packaging art as well as the commercials. Snarl's sword is also metal colored in the cartoon.D-Maximal_Primal wrote:ZeroWolf wrote:The issue about Grimlocks sword is this: he never used it in the movie, and I'm struggling to remember how many times he used it in the series.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised by Grimlock's robot mode, it's bulky and well-detailed, and it has clear plastic on the chest. If his chest were gold and not bright yellow, he'd look really nice. But then the dino mode reminded me why I've never really liked G1 Grimlock's design, because nothing strikes fear into the sparks of Decepticons like a robot Barney. Wheelie's just lame, not gonna lie. The rest of the Dinobots will probably determine whether I want Grimlock.
So has SS86 been confirmed to be part of regular SS and not a subline, and this is the next wave of SS?

There's nothing "Robot Barney" about Grimlock's dino mode Nothing plush, huggable, or anthropomorphized. The only impediment to it looking threatening here is the headsculpt seeming to lean too close to the cartoon's stylized squaring of his upper snout.Tuned Agent wrote:But then the dino mode reminded me why I've never really liked G1 Grimlock's design, because nothing strikes fear into the sparks of Decepticons like a robot Barney.
G1 toy head for comparison.
But even with that, the teeth and his hulking size still make him imposing.
Yeah, I would rather have had another accessory instead of the Wheelie mini-figure.Tuned Agent wrote:Wheelie's just lame, not gonna lie.

I think the deal was he never used the sword in the 86 movie, just the rifle, so this figure only has the rifle. (forgive me if someone already said that on this thread)

You're getting him mixed up with Snarl, who only ever used his sword in the cartoon (albeit to shoot lasers from the tip).chuckdawg1999 wrote:I'm fairly certain that Grimlock used his sword often during the series, I remember seeing it more than his rifle. If they are Live action movies, I will not complain. My biggest complaint is that G1 cartoon style is in every TF line now. I just want some love for my favorite part of TF, the 5 movies.

Blurr...yeesh. I'm probably going to pass and keep using TR Blurr as my Blurr. I think it's the arm kibble and head sculpt that really bug me.
Still plan on getting Kup, Scourge and Hot Rod.
I'm not too thrilled about how Jazz came out, but I'll probably get him to take my POTP Jazz's place.

Devastator is nice for those who missed out on getting all of the Constructicons, but a punch to the nethers to those who don’t have a complete Devastator yet, particularly the ones that command higher prices for some odd reason. The backdrop is nice though, that would probably be the one thing from it I wish I had.

Sabrblade wrote:Two guesses as to why Jazz has a 14 on his doors instead of a 4.
The more pleasant guess: G1 Jazz had a 4 on his doors while G2 Jazz had a 1 on his, and so Hasbro just put those two numbers together for some reason.
The, uh, unpleasant guess: Another hidden message like with POTP Jazz (which I would very much want to NOT be the case).
He doesn't have a 4 to avoid the racecar licensing. The 14 is a reference to his diaclone number.

Evidently they wanted to completely cover the hands this time (which even the G1 toy doesn't do), while also avoiding the inversion of the arms that's part of the TR figure's transformation. And the result is that Blurr's underarm panels are reeeeally bulky.william-james88 wrote:Razorbeast88 wrote:Honestly what the heck happened with SS Blurr's forearms? They look terrible

Agreed! I'm sure there couldve been a way to have the kibble wrap around or collapse better, seems like a step backwards from great figures in the WFC line and even what we've seen in some SS '86 figures already. I dont mind the minor issues like with jazz but those arms are a little excessive lol

Thats a shame, I honestly would've preferred hand visibility in vehicle mode over those veggie straws attached to his arms lol. I'm trying to make myself feel better by imagining him using them as batons/armor or having him flip them out in robot mode to use as clubs or something haha
