william-james88 wrote:Wow, this is out of the blue. Fellow Seibertronian Primeultimus has posted two pictures he found in the Transformers Addicts facebook page. Thes are actually from Louis Foldi who posted them in Talk Transformers. These are pictures of the Warrior Class Megatronus toy (whos protoype we saw just a little while ago) AND a reciept of it being purchased in a Toysrus in the US. This toy was never officially announced by Hasbro and here it is on our western shores for 14.99$US. The picture, which is our first look at the finished masked figure, also reveals additional information such as the fact that it is a Toysrus Exclusive and part of the Clash of the Transformers line. It being absent from the previous press release and the Autobot August campaign leads to believe that this may be part of a new line of Toysrus exclusive Robots in Disguise figures, time will tell. If you have trouble finding him at TRU, he shares the same SKN as the other warrior class figures: 285519.

I checked before I realized it was a TRU exclusive. The answer is while Amazon itself wouldn't carry it third party sellers would

The fact that this guy came out of nowhere from prototype to being found in store is very interesting. I didn't find him at my TRU so it must be a case of small early release

He basically says that R.I.D. is the first ever TF property fully generated, designed, and developed directly from their marketing research data. I think this is really telling of what we've seen out of this line toy wise, and how it has rolled out from the get go.
That means kids and parents who were tested, like and want some of the toys we the collectors keep pooping all over.
Just a nice reminder of what it is we actually collect. Also a good reminder of what Hasbro is in the business of. Business.
Now that thats out of the way. I really like the looks of that Megatronus. Now to decide if I should grab the domestic release or see what Takara does.
Anybody else feel confident Hasbro will release the Legends Megatronus as a single packed figure? I liked the one in the TRU 2 pack, but didn't need another Prime.

I actually think we are super spoiled. I mean think about it, Hasbro finds a way to make the most money possible to keep these toys coming all the time and Takara uses these designs to make collector grade figures for us if we arent satisfied by the Hasbro products designed for a younger market. Hasbro finances the product development (doing whatever keeps the lights on) and Takara gives us a collector option at the same price. We cant lose.

I'm personally good with where we are now, minus the price point. I like to hear what the real target audience likes too, helps put things in perspective more

I've never fooled myself into thinking I collect anything other than children's toys. I collect these things because I once was the target demographic, and that time left an everlasting impression on me. I'm all for Hasbro "keeping the lights on".

Oh of course, I loved your post I just wanted to add to it by saying that concentrating on a different targt audience than us doesnt mean we cant get collector versions of the same products. Thats why I said we were spoiled I mean, look at any other brand. If you dont like the deco of your Jurrasic park toys, or if they are suddenly made with less articulation, too bad. But not TFs We have two companies working well together in a fantastic business partnership I would love to write a thesis on (or site article, lets not get too ahead of ourselves).

I didn't see it as negative man! it's plain honesty and something really cool to think about really for us

I have complete sympathy with anyone who was scratching their head over ROTF Optimus or DOTM Sentinel - those two were will fully obtuse.
I like RID Fine enough but I do see it as a line with problems and many of those have nothing to do with Marketing.
Sideswipe's wholly inadequate chest design implementation or Bumblebee's lack of ankle spurs and the resulting balance issues, or Grimlock's fragility all are not down to someone's survey replies.
I will continue to disagree with Hasbro's choices when there is a path they can take that excludes fewer customers and instead the take the path of "Niche" ; Masterpeice is to niche in the way it's sold it's high prices and exclusivity is basically saying Adults (and older kids) only... which is fair enough I would impose Master Piece Starscream's Transformation on a 6 year old and even Prowl is a bit more fiddly in the legs & chest than he really needs to be.
Which is a shame as the same sort of kids who were consuming Transformers Prime might have quite enjoyed Prowl... especially if they'd been introduced to the old cartoons.
Another example of something I find counter productive is the DOTM "GoBots" didn't patronise the wee kiddies and neither did the older Playskool Gobots - so why does Rescue Bots treat like you are the sort of person who'd barely old enough to suck on a duplo brick.
Gobots implemented arms on a slanted joint that naturally slotted into the correct place while still allowing some movement - Rescuebots often have no distinct knee articulation and can't raise their arms.
I find that patronising to the younger consumers. So my opinion of Hasbro's Marketing survey on RID-15 is the same I have towards Mattel's choice to remove most of the joints from MOTU 20XX "They have over done it". we have got to cheaply made, and to expensive to buy and there is to many design flaws compared to some previous years.
It is perfectly possible to make a toy that is usable for the younger consumer. is well painted, feels pretty solid and appeals to an adult collector as well - it's called much of the "Transformers Cybertron" toyline. The only bit that might have been a problem for some is if they loose the Planet Keys - they should have stored in the slot better.
I'm prepared to cut Hasbro some slack their "New Guys" will need some time to figure out what works and what does not since they foolishly didn't keep any of the old staff around to set them straight. Just as Transmetal 2's were a little iffy in places as they were the result of new staff at that time too. You can see some lines are a learning process (Armada for example). I just don't want a further deterioration in quality and increase in cost otherwise the question "Why am I not buy 3rd party instead" will keep coming up even more.

making the level playing field rather one sided! granted Hasbro are in it basically for the money... & when releasing a new product(like RID) I guess they probably have to(in the end) resort to a kind of dirty tricks campaign(ie finding people to test who are suggestible to that product) in order for that product to be successful & released! but had they selected some of US to test the products we would've dissed them straight away.....shoddy materials used & other such problems, & it would never got released onto market. It's the same sort of thing with the Bayformers movies......they must've tested it on an audience before worldwide release ....an audience compiled solely of people who are more suggestible to those kind of movie(s) AGAIN rather one sided! but because it's all about making money, had they operated on a level playing field that wasn't so one sided that it acted in their favour & selected some of US as a test audience, we would've dumped all over those movies and they would never have gotten a release(well............maybe straight to dvd at the very least).
but it just demonstrates the depths those companies and organisations will resort to in order to get their products out there.
..
On a different note
With RID(2015) & Rescue Bots and the like! We've yet to see Masterpiece versions of those figures! but something tells me that we never will.

I feel Beast Wars is an even better example since those toys are even more poseable than some cybertro toys and that toyline was entirely designed in house by Hasbro (Kenner at the time) whereas Cybertron was more of a joint effort with Takara. Unlike the Cybertron line, Beast Wars is an example of them doing what you propose all by themselves in the past.
Also, in response to other things i have read in this thread, something tells me that a company seeking to make the most profit would want to study as much diverse opinions as possible. It makes no sense for them to just accept the results from the select few who have a similar point of view. That's just shooting yourself in the foot. Their decisions are based on the majority.
Also, just so this isnt all directed from Hasbro, I would lik to indicate that Takara has also expressed the goal of wanting to simplify transformations. They actually find it even more of a design challenge to convert from one mode to a totally different one with as few steps as possible. And it is a challengs they are up for. This interview was really cool: http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/takara-tomy-transformers-adventure-tav01-bumblebee-designer-yuya-onishi-interview/32898/
I actually really love looking at both the Hasbro and Takara side. They both have similar visions but coming from totally different angles. Hasbro is purely to deliver products sothat as many people as possible can enjoy them while Takara approaches this from a purely artstic point of view in trying to see how to optimise steps and make transformation fun.
I love the part in the article I linked where the takara designer talks about the need he had for that RID Bumblebee to turn his waist during Transformation. It could have been engineered differently without the need to turn the waist, but he found that small extra step make the transformation more dynamic (and indeed, it makes the animated transformation way more dynamic too).

Er...why would he be on fire? I know, I know "the comics," but there's no reason for -this- Megatronus to be on fire. G1 The Fallen is the one with a penchant for wreathing himself in flames.

keep your eyes out for the Warrior Class Megatronus, arriving at Toys “R” Us in November.
If you find him, please report the sighting in this toy's very own sighting listing.
Here he is with all his accompanying Clash of the Transformers friends, proving he is an extension of the Toysrus exclusive line.
So I think we have all learnt our lesson. Seibertron will surely be keeping close tabs on Hasbro Pulse like that we can report it back to you right here on Seibertron.com!

Yeah, but that face just doesn't really fit the character however, they're just trying to fit him in, but the sameyness of everyone's face really does hurt the show.

All the ones being done were either exclusive to the season finale or were upgraded during the finale. Grimlock and Fixit were not, so it's logical that they would not

Grimlock, Fixit, Drift, Jetstorm, Slipstream, and Windblade didn't get upgraded, so their exclusion from this subline is understandible.
And this was Megatronus's big moment, so Steeljaw, Thunderhoof, Underbite, Clampdown, Fracture, Airazor, and Divebomb are likewise left out.
