Stomp n’ Chomp Grimlock
Warrior Megatronus
And now, thanks to a post on Weibo, we finally have images for one of those: Stomp n’ Chomp Grimlock.
Surprising no one, this is simply a straight up repaint of Age of Extinction Stomp n’ Chomp Grimlock sporting the colours of Robots In Disguise 2015 Grimlock. Even the robot head still uses the Age of Extinction headsculpt as can be seen in the images below.
UPDATE: A listing for this toy was found on Toysrus' website and the price is revealed to be 79.99 $ USD.

This time, the optimus accessory have been removed. It look nothing like the show. The killer question is, for how much will it go for? Because it clearly don't have the collector market in mind and mommy usually wont buy a toy that is worth 100$ or even 80$ to little timmy.
Bad planning, Hasbro. Bad planning.

The mom tried several times to point out that the kid didn't need this one because he had the movie version, and every time the kid said, 'But this one is Robots in Disguise!' It was probably a mistake because no one has posted it yet, anywhere online. If you see it again, send us a picture (the link is in my sig) and you will get a news credit

I'll try to make a run out today and see if it's still there. It might have sold (but this is TRU of shelfwarming fame), or they might have recognized the error and pulled it. In the which case I will have no proof of what I saw...

Shockwave 7, are you a robot or a Vulcon? I kid.
This statement is funny because it really kind of puts collecting into perspective. Do I need every Bluestreak I can find? Fact: No. Do I want every Bluestreak I can find? Emotional Response: YYYYEEEESSS!
Children exemplify this idea. I wonder at what age logic really kicks in?
The first S&C Grim Must have sold well, or else this decision would be completely illogical on Hasbro's part.

Well, it IS the whole basis for much of the comedic dialogue on any Star Trek show I have noted that much of the trolling that takes place on the internet is because of that very issue. Whenever people start losing on the basis of facts, they retreat into the comfort of emotional rhetoric, and thus, nothing gets resolved because in the minds of the emotional, their feelings counter any and all evidence to the contrary...

Well there was very little development costs for this particular release. I have a feeling this doesnt need to sell all that well for Hasbro to make good money off of it. This really feels like a decision based entirely from the business side of things since it lacks any creativity.

The AoE one is still warming shelves what makes them think this wont join its brother for the long haul? If it was a brand new mold or even a remolded AoE one i could understand but a straight up repaint, yeah good luck with that especially since it doesnt even come with a figure to activate the gimmicks.
And also sells for the exact same price.

Likewise.

I am mildly amused that the earlier Robots in Disguise was a brand that included repaints from earlier lines (like the Scourge/Bludgeon toys) and eventually became a brand to release "Whatever".
If you combine Adventures and RID-15 you have a line that includes; Movie, Animated, Classics/Combiner Wars & Prime Moulds in a single line.
I found that sort of ironic.

By far the most purely stupid re-release of a mold I've ever seen.

I guess, I dunno. I was under the (completely uneducated) assumption that Movie designs by the actual Movie crew were off-limits in non-Movie lines, and that Platinum Edition (that's what the G1 guys are, right?) might be juuuuust skirting the edge there due to being "special edition" instead of being in a new line entirely.
*wonders if they could reuse non-vehicle toys like Shockwave and Laserbeak*

I like them better on RiD Grimlock. On Bayformer Grimlock, they kind of make him look like a big pickle.
Shame they didn't do this right. A reshell plust replacing the Optimus figure with Bumblebee or Sideswipe (or Minitron, but i don't dare even hope) rather than just throwing it out would have helped a lot here.
Posted by RAR on August 29th, 2015 @ 10:01pm CDT
Even if they didn't at the time have a plan to use them in a Grimlock repaint there is the idea of "Imaginative play" to consider. not to mention they might still be making One-steps for years to come it would have given them a unifying theme and future proofed them.
Retaining the metal piece could have been a feature they could use or ignore as they chose too like how Minicons were sold as toys to slap onto other toys - or just sold as small toys with the Powerlinking never even mentioned or even appropriate in some cases.
Instead giving some more people a reason to buy an expensive toy they've given some people a reason not too. which to be honest is a bit disappointing.
Putting that aside though I do still think the toy looks far better in green.

That's not irony. Coincidence and parallelism, sure, but not irony.
I do kind of wish this new grimlock at least had a new head, but it's not like I'm buying it either way. My friend brought up a point, though. This is the second big box item this year, and it might replace Devastator on shelves (at the places that carry both, which I think is only TRU). Not encouraging.

That Bot wrote:That's not irony. Coincidence and parallelism, sure, but not irony.
For the sake of clarity;
Irony is used in previous statement in the follow senses :
"A situation that is strange or funny because things happen in a way that seems to be the opposite of what you expected."
" incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result;"
In other words I didn't 'expect' the RID Brand of 2015 to share that feature of odd ball repaints with the brand of 2001-2003.
I didn't mean it in the "Opposites" meaning :
"irony: the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect."
Or
"the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning".
Those later meanings bare more resemblance to the tone of Sarcasm.
As I wasn't being sarcastic - I was commenting on an unexpected series of events and as such the usage is I feel perfectly valid.
If it helps you can take the intent of the original statement to be one of me commenting on something I found "amusingly incongruous" instead.
