Fellow Seibertronians, TFW2005 member Prime135 has found some interesting listings in the Toys R Us computer system. One new listing for an as of yet unknown set entitled 'Decepticon Showdown'. With a price listed as $39.99, it seems like it will be a giftset of some sort, and will likely include several figures, likely representing both factions, although who they are remains to be seen. Another is a listing for a previously unknown RID Power Surge version of Starscream listed as being $29.99. So with two previously unknown figures, Starscream seems to be getting a lot of attention now, might this point to his return to the series? So what do you make of this news? Who do you think is in this giftset? Let us know in the comments below.

Pretty sure Hasbro considers Paralon to already be the BW Scorponok redeco.

Pity they couldn't even do that right then, and give him his proper colors :BANG_HEAD:

Its not like they did in the past:

Hasbro exec 1: "So, now that we have this new Scorponok toy, what can we redeco/retool it as?"

Hasbro exec 2: "Hrm, well, he's already Scorponok. Are there any other scorpion-based TFs?"

Hasbro exec 1: "Let's see... Hey, Beast Wars had a Scorponok that was very different from most Scorponoks!"

In defense of the original toy, the toy came before the show design. The show deviated from the toy, rather than vice versa.

Hasbro's BW Scorponok toys were never the samecolour as the show, thats all I meant.

However, giving it a closer look, he's not that far off:

I honestly can believe that, which is really, really sad. It honestly feels like every bw 'celebratory' thing they try to do ends up being awkward and half-a$$ed, and ends up coming across as a slap in the face to bw fans... 'Hey we're not going to celebrate the anniversary this year', 'hey here's a bmach figure from rid dressed up as g1 prime', 'hey, here's an inappropriately colored bw scorponok homage'... all they had to do was give him black plastic (or whatever color he was translucent gunmetal maybe, some of the photo's look like it) :BANG_HEAD:

You sound so surprised. John Warden is pretty much a hard-core GEEWUNer who refers to Beast Wars as the "dark times". There's a reason over at /toy/ we call him John "Not Muh GEEWUN, Not Getting Done" Warden (along with John "Beast Wars was a mistake" Warden, John "Hollow Torso, Limbs Even Moreso" Warden etc).

I'm afraid I don't have any quotes on me, no. It's funny, I could have sworn I'd seen it somewhere but it seems to have been scrubbed from the internet. Doesn't help the biggest compendium of TF knowledge (TFWiki) is run by literal Hasbro shills who actually go out of their way to scrub anything that goes against the "Party line" from the wiki, so they probably would have removed it.
EDIT: Never mind, found a screenshot courtesy of the Allspark. It is from David Willis/ItsWalky though so YMMV on reliability.

Anyway, this is off topic and I apologize.

Does it really matter at all in the grand scheme of things?

Lavender and Purple are hardly different colors their just different shades of the same thing Paralon is a Beast Wars Homage not actually the Beast Wars character himself.

Why don't you just paint it if you don't like the color palette and if you can't paint then get a buddy too that's what I do.

I got them all. While I dont like repaints, I got Paralon because I just wanted to try out that mold and this one came out first. Plus that head is amazing, gorgeous paint apps on it. He has great paint and colour all around with a nice mix of plastic colours. I will be reviewing them all tonight :)

For now, here is the box assortment, where we can see that Starscream makes up half of the box. This may be an indication that Hasbro is aware of how sought after this toy would be and that this was indeed the first planned release of this mold.

I was able to purchase the three Toysrus Exclusive Clash of the Transformers 2016 figures from the Robots in Diguise Line. Pictures with comparisons to others toys, along with a written review of each will be posted later and in the meantime I wanted to point out the box assortment and post some clearer images of the art and official stock images found on the boxes, which also showcase the transformation.

Here is the box assortment, where we can see that Starscream makes up half of the box (with two Primes and two Paralons). This may be an indication that Hasbro is aware of how sought after this toy would be and that this is indeed the first planned release of this mold and the main release of this character in the warrior class.

Image

Below you will find the box bar codes along with the side art. Only Starcream's art is accurate. Optimus is reused with no change in colour (unlike the toy) and Paralon has the wrong head.

Those images are followed by the back of the box of each of them, which showcases Hasbro's 3d rendered stock images which will probably be featured when these figures are officially revealed. You can also see the transformation steps.

While it seems Starscream has the least steps, he actually turns out to be the most complex. We will dive into this more with the upcoming pictorial reviews so stay tuned.

They arent

I will be showing comparison pics tonight. For now, just look at the shoulders, you will see how far they extend which means there is a smaller panel on the forearms.

Well for Starscream, the stock photos are pretty accurate. he doesnt look better than that in hand. The vehicle actually looks a bit worse in hand, this angle is very misleading.

That's unfortunate, when we first saw the initial photos I really liked him, but as better in hand photos were shown he kind of became just an alright looking figure to me. I'd have to get the figure on sale to pick it up. I could definitely go for a different headsculpt though. I look forward to your reviews!

Seibertron will be providing an image filled written review of each Toysrus Robots in Disguise Exclusive Warrior Figure. The first one up is the Thunderclash/Ultra Magnus themes redeco of Power Surge Optimus Prime.

While this is a white themed redeco of Power Surge Optimus Prime, it has been released first, so this is our first experience with the Power Surge retool of the RID Warrior Optimus mold.

For starters, here are quick comparisons between this particular Toysrus Exclusive redeco of Power Surge Prime and the upcoming wider release of Power Surge Prime.

Image

Image

As you can see, he is principally a retool of 2015's Warrior Optimus Prime and when looking at this toy I can't help but feel a bit retroactively jipped. It mostly deals with the paint apps, plastic used, and accessories.

Firstly, this toy uses a lot of clear plastic while none of the other versions of this mold do. Clear plastic is used on the entire torso (both front and back pieces), the two swords/wings and the removable shoulder blasters.

Image

What says clear plastic means more paint and Optimus has a lot of paint on his chest to give the wanted design against the clear plastic. This figure has a significant amount of paint apps. My favourite actually has nothing to do with clear plastic, it's actually his feet which are painted in two different colours (white and silver) and it's a great result.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

The last thing that makes me feel a bit cheated about purchasing the original mold are the accessories. All previous released only came with one unpainted axe that didnt store anywhere in robot mode. Yet here at the same price point you get two clear plastic wings/swords that can be stored well in vehicle mode (and hide his obvious legs better) as well as in robot mode where they can serve a dual purpose. What is really awesome is that even though the wings can be pegged and unpegged easily, they were designed in a way that you can rotate them simultaneously without unpegging them and they would never block eachother. You also get these boosters/blasters that peg behind his head in robot mode. This clear plastic piece, which does have some pant as well, can also be stored elegantly under his vehicle mode. And to add insult to injury, he also comes with the same axe. Of course, this is all good news since you get way more bang for your buck here, but it really makes any previous release feel cheap in comparison.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Now onto the retooling.

With the legs, it is only the outer flap piece that is retooled. There are no wheels on that piece for this retool. There is also a hook which I am at a loss as to what its purpose is. It makes the legs look different from any side view.

The chest is where most of the retooling is. The chest and back are basically different pieces entirely from the first warrior.

The arms and shoulders, which turn into the cab, are also changed from the previous mold uses. The panels under the arms are smaller with more of the cab piece present on the shoulders, extending them a bit. This makes the hands more evident. In vehicle mode, that just means that the connection between the arms and shoulders is further down the grill. I find it very cool how they fixed a big problem with no change done to the visuals of the alt mode.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

While I didn't care much for the initial release of the mold, I think there is very good value here with good paint apps and a great amount of accessories and I love when I see feedback taken into consideration and a toy improved through it. If you don't have the mold yet, I would suggest giving this guy a try.

I can always steal it from my son's collection and give some diversity to repaint wars.

Now I have to track down the TRU release and paint the head a darker blue and the legs red.

Seibertron will be providing an image filled written review of each Toysrus Robots in Disguise Exclusive Warrior Figure. We got the Thunderclash-esque redeco of Power Surge Optimus Prime yesterday and now we will look at the totally new Robots in Disguise Starscream toy.

What I was dreading when I first saw this toy was that it wold have a fake chest, with lots of back kibble in robot mode and be a "bot under a jet" in vehicle mode. Turns out this is not the case at all. My problems with this toy are not ones I could predict. While the design and transformation are interesting and new for Starscream, the toy just feels very cheap. The plastic used is not hard plastic like the Power Surge Prime Warrior figure. It bends and the wing has a tendency to pop off during transformation. But it does so much right as well. So let's take a look.

Here is his vehicle mode and I did not catch it from previous photos, but it is not an earth jet. It looks far more like Combiner Wars Cyclonus with a very long and narrow front section that fans out in the back. The design also shares similarities with Windblade who has the legs fold up and become part of the back of the jet. However, this is executed so much better because the resulting gap is very small.

Image

Image
Transformers Generations Combiner Wars Cyclonus Gallery

Image

While the shot above might make you think there is a ton of kibble under there, it is not the case. Its just his shoulders which I think the designers were hoping would be flush under the wing to give the illusion that these become part of the wing in alt mode.

Image

Image

Image

As you can see, it is not a bot under a jet.

Image

Everything tabs in really well in alt mode, with some of the loudest snaps I have heard in the line so far. I also like how the hands fold into the arms through a hallowed out design very much like Dark of the Moon Shockwave's hands.

Image

Here are some alt mode comparisons with RID Decepticon brethren and Prime Starscream. He is far beefier than the later.

Image

Image

Image

Image

As I mentioned previously, there is no fake chest here. The transformation is much better than either Cyclonus or Windblade. It is more complex than either and all the robot bits are tabbed in securely and better disguised as well.

Image

Image

The robot mode is also different than previous starscreams with him having his wings folded down to give the idea of a cape. This royalty theme is further emphasised by the large shoulderpads which reference his look when coronated. You can play with the wings ad how they look in robot mode.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

What might be the biggest difference between this and other G1 themed Starscream toys would be his accessories. There are no null rays or rockets to tab onto his arms. Instead you get these very straighfrward pistols, which are nicely painted (gun metal over blue plastic). I was hesitant but this change in accessories totally changes the feel of this toy in robot mode. And they plug on his arms as well. I totally went John Woo on this guy!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Here are some comparisons with other wariors and deluxes. I brought in an older WFC deluxe to give an idea of height for those who might not be collecting Robots in Disguise.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Yeah, he did shrink a bit, but the legs are thicker, so it's a give and take

Thanks! And he's not terrible at all. There is nothing wrong with the look, design, poseability or anything of the sort, its just the plastic I have an issue with.

Hopefully he makes his way down south here soon.

and who knows: maybe Starscream is actually among the ruling of Cybertron in RiD, much like his IDW counterpart became one, hence the royalty wings

And hence the cybertronian alt mode.

This guy looks fun. I like hid funky elongated head, and love that they kept the signature shoulder stack thingies.
Nice reviews Willy! ;)^

He's certainly a neat design but the fact that they went so far as to hollow out the head is...pretty lame. I just really hope we don't have a slump back into the dark ages of the FoC line in terms of quality/hollowness.

william-james88 wrote:While the design and transformation are interesting and new for Starscream, the toy just feels very cheap. The plastic used is not hard plastic like the Power Surge Prime Warrior figure. It bends and the wing has a tendency to pop off during transformation. But it does so much right as well.

Hasbro's explanation for this in the past will make you think about the "flight" based Transformers differently going forward. A lot of the Transformers toys with airplane or flight alternate modes are made this way because kids actually "fly" the toys, as in toss the toy through the air to make it fly. Reading your comments totally goes in line with that. The wings pop off easily so that when the toy impacts the ground, they won't break as easily. The softer plastic used also coincides with this.

Overall I would say this is a decent figure for the RiD Warrior Class line. If even it does look a little cheap.

Doesn't explain the non-flight ones though
