WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT ULTRA MAGNUS SHOULD BE!
Also, Optimus gets the Star Saber and Magnus gets the Forge of Solus Prime? Neato.
I wonder if the chest, shoulder, and wing armor is detachable for reconfiguration in vehicle mode? Or if the top of the cab is freakishly modified in transformation?

I absolutely love the RiD Magnus, but if Hasbro are falling back into old ways with the character then I can't help ask what was the point in the Rid one?
Magnus has gone from the one PRIME character I HAD to have to the one character I may well skip. I just hope he won't still transform into a long nose truck.

I just hope that backpack is removable.

Because the PRiD mold is awful? I certainly won't miss it, what with the absurdly TINY shoulder struts, obnoxious back kibble, and weirdly proportioned legs.

Okay, perhaps I should have been more clear, sorry. It DOES look good. Like, sitting there, in a decent pose (provided you cover up those struts), it looks good. Again, on paper.
But I've had it in hand I'm utterly disappointed. In person I just don't like it, which is a shame, because originally I thought UM would be the standout from his wave. As it stands, I LOVE Thundertron, and PRiD UM is an easy pass. Also, that back kibble bugs me the way it sits above-his-shoulders enough to be in the way of the head and lightpiping but not-high-enough to be Huffer-esque. It just looks like it's in the way.

Because that's not what Ultra Magnus looks like in Prime's official canon. He has an entirely different model from PRiD.

understandable, i am really disappointed that he has a real lack of paint too. he could have had much better paint.

Yes the Prime Rid version has its flaws but all in all is pretty nice.
however I truly love the rid OP mold, and hopefully with the armor it will look great with good paint applications.
I'm kind of looking forward to it. It will work nicely in my ever growing Magnus display.
Not as large as my Prime display, but still.
Though it does kind of leave the question of why discard the RID Magnus mold so quickly in favor a retool of Prime.

That model is bad and it should feel bad. I much prefer the look of the Cyberverse and RID toys.

I do too, it feels much more like Ultra magnus. No weird kibble, nice chunky shoulders, the chest is straight out of G1, and he even has Optimus' legs.

I do remember that. It got me wondering why the two toys Magnus got were, first, so similar, and second, so different from that. Still, the "truck cab shoulders" Magnus has really appealed to me since I first saw pictures of it, and that's the Magnus I want to see in the show. My first Ultra Magnus was the original RID Magnus (from 2001), so I never knew he was "supposed" to be Prime with armor until they started the G1 reissues in 2002 or so. I'm fine with Magnus having his own look, and I really like the transformations of the two Prime Magnuses.

Thank you for getting that.

I wonder if they changed Magnus' design (from the first PRID voyager toy) because it would be cheaper for him to appear in the show as a modified Optimus. Hence the new toy design...?

PrymeStriker wrote:Magnus is probably using an altered Optimus model in the third season (if he's in the third season) because Optimus is upgrading into the Beast Hunters Voyager and they didn't want his old model to go to waste. It also saves money to use on another bot.
That's an interesting point. I hadn't taken into account Optimus's new look, meaning Magnus wouldn't look like such an obvious remodeling. And considering we saw Magnus way back at the beginning of last season, it makes you wonder how far in advance they plan this stuff.

Awful? I like it, I don't think you know what awful is or your not talking about the same thing

Why does that matter? Smokescreen didn't turn out looking anything like his Arms Micron toy, and that was made (while not released) way before he appeared on Prime. Models change, it's a part of the development.
And like I said before, they probably changed it to Optimus' model to save money for another guy joining us in the third season.

frogbat wrote:The prob with the prime toy for me is that he perhaps borrowed too much from the tfa version. Too little red, rubbish weapon gimmick, and useless alt mode... Still no airachnid but defo below average.
Really? I think it's the best Powerizer toy we got. It's the only one with a locking weapon, the clear parts are well-integrated, the vehicle parts integrate well into his robot mode (excepting the backpack), he has good proportions and overall I really like his look. He's got a decent vehicle mode, and I feel he stands apart well enough from Animated Magnus.
I suppose it comes back to my earlier point that the other RID Magnus was my Ultra Magnus for a long time, and in fact besides that one the only other Ultra Magnus toys I have are the other iterations of Aligned Magnus. I didn't watch Animated when it aired, I've still only seen the first season after the fact, and Reissue and Classics Magnus never did much for me (before Fansproject but then it was too late).

Money. It cost a lot of money to fully render anything in CGI to the detail required by TF: Prime.

What are you talking about? That comic is a direct prequel to the cartoon's third season (while simultaneously serving as a sequel to the Fall of Cybertron video game, helping to bridge the gap between the game and cartoon).Rated X wrote:I never knew TF Prime had a comic that had nothing to do with the cartoon.

Dude, what are you talking about? All I've been doing is answering your question. When did I make any indication that any of this meant half a rat's ass to me?

Because it wasn't a shoulder rocket. It was supposed to go on his left arm.
