Now, see, if this had been made back in the 1980s, Applejack would be sitting in a corner, cowering in fear, begging for her life in a passive, submissive manner, wanting some big strong hero to come and rescue her.

But here, with this comic drawing inspiration from the Friendship is Magic series, AJ is strong-willed, independent, taking charge of the situation, and anything but a pushover. She's angry, frustrated, and determined to get those low-down, cotton-pickin' varmints offa her property! She ain't goin' down witout a fight, and'll die trying to defend her family's honor and legacy.

Where've you been for the last decade? They made a good MLP series that garnered a huge following of fans just like any other decent, intelligent cartoon series would. The fact that it starred characters that were horses and a predominately female cast was completely irrelevant to how good it was.

This isn't the 1980s anymore where cartoons have to be segregated by gender.

At what point did I bring gender into it? And honestly, I didn't know about any new cartoons or that it was a mostly female cast. Frankly I don't care.

It's more about the overall weirdness of the entire package of MLP plus Transformers, plus the fact that you yourself had such minutia stored in your little grey cells to be withdrawn at a moment's notice but hobbies are hobbies.

As for my last decade, I've spent the last decade or so traying to keep people from dying on my shift (because OMG! The paperwork!), which leads to drinking, burnout, and exhaustion on a daily basis while simultaneously working on a Master's degree with the purpose of giving myself a more prominent role in keeping people from dying on my shift.
So...pretty much a masochistic stupor. Does that help?

You're really having a go at someone because of the knowledge they possess? I get Sabrblade has a tendency to be an annoying know-it-all but your attitude just stinks.

If this cross-over isn't your thing, then move along. It's a concept that's so simple even your little grey cells could comprehend.

Not "having a go". Teasing. Poking fun. Seriously, it's tongue-in-cheek. SB's own signature pokes fun at his knowledge of television minutia!

It might have, had this crossover been done back then instead of ten years later. Wonder why it took so long to make it happen.

'Course, on the other hand, Prime was out when we had different people in charge of Transformers brand, so maybe the current team were more open to the crossover than the Prime era team. :-?

could see the Earthrise Sunstreaker, Wheeljack, or Runabout/Runamuck molds working as a mold base or engineering base for KITT.

Until then, I'm satisfied with KITT's cameo appearance (complete with William Daniels-voiced dialogue) in that one Walmart commercial that had a ton of TV and film vehicles in it.

As someone with practically no knowledge of the ponies, this was a fun, silly crossover. I enjoyed it.

Also, the Deluxe Insecticons looks AMAZING in the smaller Insecticon colour scheme! Really dig it.

For the sake of argument,it didn't have to be a crossover with the G1 characters either.

I don't think the Prime crew would have opposed it,since they had these commercials in the hub, where Megatron interacts with the ponies.

That's why I said ten years ago, back when Prime was out and was the face of the brand alongside the movies. Now, it's long gone and the current Hasbro is pushing the current G1-based face of the brand. That's why it's G1 instead of Prime in this crossover since the crossover is happening now when G1 reboots are the main thing.

I'm talking about the Hasbro brand teams, not the cartoon crews. Aaron Archer could have been against it (remember his infamy for saying "No" to everything?) while John Warden might have been onboard with it.

Greetings Seibertronians! Website Gizmodo (or more specifically, its io9 section), has dropped an exclusive reveal today, that of the existence of Transformers/ My Little Pony: Friendship in Disguise Part II! This four part monthly mini series is of course a follow up to the first, which debuted last year and went on to be a hit with readers.

Image

Image

The creative team are the same from the last venture, writers James Asmus and Sam Maggs, and artists Jack Lawrence and Casey W. Coller are all back for the mechanical, and equestrian mayhem.

While the first mini series was dealing with everyone's favourite Autobots and Decepticons ending up in the Ponies land of Equestria, this time the ponies are brought to Cybertron through an attempt by Megatron to steal the magic from Equestria through Space Bridge technology. Pony and Robot must unite to protect both worlds from a primal evil, unleashed by Megatron's scheme.

IDW have also been on hand, sharing the thoughts of those who are working on it.

“I can't wait to jump back into this world of magical friendships that really is More than Meets the Eye,” says (Sam) Maggs. “It's such a blast coming up with the most fun (and downright weird) pairings of ponies and 'bots, and I think fans of both series are going to be surprised at what's we've got for them this second time around!”

“The first crossover was about as much fun as I've had in my writing career,” says (James) Asmus. “I am hugely delighted that we're not only doing a follow up, but getting to flip the script. In the first series, we got to tell really charming and fun stories by tossing the Autobots and Decepticons into the colorful, magical world of Equestria. But now, dragging dark magic and friendly ponies into the sci-fi world of Cybertron lets us play with brand new tones, toys, and team-ups!”

Editor Megan Brown says, "We are so excited to work with some amazingly talented writers and artists to bring this marvelous mashup back to comic stores! Just like the previous volume, many creators are contributing stories that are going to bring our favorite ponies to Cybertron and beyond, including returning writers James Asmus, Sam Maggs, Ian Flynn, and returning artists Jack Lawrence, Casey W. Coller, Priscilla Tramontano, and Tony Fleecs — all joined by some new, exciting faces! The creators on this series are exceptional, able to bridge the gap between Autobot and pony to make a colorful, vibrant world. We’re thrilled for everyone (and everypony!) to see what we have in store!"

Transformers/My Little Pony: Friendship in Disguise Part II will be available from April and come with a variety of different covers. Cover A by Tony Fleecs, Cover B by Bethany McGuire-Smith, and two Retailer Incentive editions featuring art by Jon Gray and Anna Malkova, respectively.

What do you think about this announcement? Did you read the last mini series? Let us know in the Energon Pub and stay tuned to Seibertron for all the latest news and reviews!

A Review of My Little Pony / Transformers II: The Magic of Cybertron #2

A Few Spoilers Within - Hey Here's One Already!
Image

We've been a little behind in our comics review coverage, but it's time to get started on our catch-up and what better way to do so than with the most recently released Transformers comic out there, My Little Pony / Transformers II: The Magic of Cybertron #2. This issue came out last Wednesday and like the first iteration of this lighthearted crossover series each issue features two short stories by different creative teams, loosely interconnected by a higher-level narrative. This time around, it's the evil Sombra that has enslaved some of the Cybertronians and ponies and compelled them to do bad things, or, uh, something? That part's not important, read on for more on why that is.

Image
It's dumb, it's fun, it's not for you. Or maybe it is.

The first story sees Rainbow Dash and a group the book tells me are called the Wonderbolts have a quippy aerial dogfight with the classic trio of Decepticon seekers. It's the kind of story that's pretty typical for this particular crossover, with quick action and quick wit to pair with it. Providing a good sample of the humor found within this series and its forebear, this first story by writer Ian Flynn is easygoing fun that's easy to appreciate. The wider narrative gives it some setup, but I have my doubts as to how much it really even needed setup beyond "flying ponies and grumpy plane robots get in a scuffle".

Image
じー

The second story proves that sometimes the best crossover opportunities are those not taken seriously, with Applejack and Wildwheel - yes, seriously, the amazing Wildwheel from season 3 of Cyberverse - in a wild west stand-off. Following Killmaster's (yes, with the wand and everything!) cameo in the first issue, MLP/TF II, or perhaps just writer Sam Maggs, continues to flex some actual deep-cuts that aren't G1 related, which is intensely refreshing to see. I adored this part of the book visually as well, with Trish Forstners lines and Luis Antonio Delgado's colors going for a simple approach that just works without making things over-complicated.

Image
Majestic

The art in the first story deserves credit as well for its approach, with familiar talents Priscilla Tramontano and Joana Lafuente taking a busy set of blocking but living up to the challenge it presents. The layouts are clean and easy to follow, something that you don't have to be a younger reader to enjoy. Jake M. Wood and Neil Uyetake take care of the letters for the first and second story, respectively, with the highlights of their contributions being the appropriate and well-executed onomatopoeia work. "Skyow"? Perfect.

Tony Fleecs provides the "A" cover that you can see in this review's news post's thumbnail image, while Bethany McGuire-Smith and Adam Bryce Thomas handle art and colors for the variant options. As always, you can find all the cover images, full credits for the issue through our My Little Pony / Transformers II: The Magic of Cybertron #2.

Verdict
Image
What about a regular sized estimation?

This book isn't going to bring you some massive, sweeping epic that changes comics forever, and you shouldn't expect it to. My Little Pony / Transformers II: The Magic of Cybertron is a book that's fantastic fun for both young readers and adults, bringing lighthearted, easy-to-read adventures that I've begun to look forward to. The overarching narrative is helpful at times though it seems to distract at others, and while it's not in a majorly negative way I did find it to be the one speedbump in the issue's otherwise flawless presentation.

Please remember to set your expectations as to what kind of book this is before you go on this journey, but if you're either ready for some good, simple fun or just want to delight a young Transformers (or My Little Pony) fan in your life, I can't recommend this enough.
