Popped in to my local Toys R Us and had a word with the very helpful Customer Services assistant about Transformers Masterpieces. I inquired about any that where currently available on their systems, with only Masterpiece Acid Storm floating around, but what really caught my eye further down the list was Masterpiece Prowl and Masterpiece Sunstorm!
The Customer Services assistant checked both items, which unfortunately didnt have a confirmed release date, but each had their own SKN/VNDR reference number and a price against them. Transformers Masterpiece Prowl was priced at £59.99 with a reference number of 958298 and Masterpiece Sunstorm was priced at £69.99 with the reference number 958883.
This is very positive news that both figures will be hitting UK shores in the not too distant future. I have included a photo of both information screens which the Customer Services assistant very kindly let me take.

(or perhaps I'm still bitter that I could find Acid Storm on the TRU shelves while Soundwave was being snatched up by eBay resellers the second he was put out.)

I'm sure it will be fine. The various tampos on Thundercracker were a bit annoying, but they didn't ruin the figure by any means.

I wouldn't mind a Skywarp before they move on to the Coneheads... he's the last of the original 3 Seekers who needs an MP-11 style redo.

That was a few years back already. We've had OP, TC, SW, & AC since then... I think all of those have been acceptable.
Besides, wasn't Rodimus homaging his action master persona?
At any rate, it's pretty tough to actively screw up a Seeker deco... or is it?

Ah, I see. But if it was homaging the G1 toy, what's your issue with the deco? I'm not super fond of it, either, but Hasbro has been prone to homaging the original toys (a la MP Soundwave).

The mold was clearly designed to resemble the cartoon animation model, which was colored quite differently from the toy. Takara MP Rodimus got the right deco befitting the cartoon animation model, while Hasbro's toy-accurate looked way off on a the cartoon-accurately-detailed MP mold.megatronus wrote:Sabrblade wrote:There was no Action Master Hot Rod/Rodimus.megatronus wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Rodimus's deco, however...megatronus wrote:Sabrblade wrote:I pray Hasbro doesn't botch their decos.

So, do I go for new characters either Acid Storm or Sunstorm, I do I get Thundercraker regardless of already having Takara's, since he is my favourite seeker?
I really don't know.

If you ever decide to get MP11 proper, get the TakaraTomy Asian market reissue. It has small deco differences that slightly improve upon the original release's deco.hinomars19 wrote:I'm really conflicted on the new seekers. Yea, I sold my original MP-11 release in anticipation of the slightly improved deco. Just so happened that I got SS when he was first released at $160, and was able to sell him for $250. Definitely helped me swallow the $200 reissue price.

Where a lot of in-the-know fans and collectors have already bought these via import or other such means, making them available via Toys R Us gives the option to purchase, as many do, via a brick and mortar store without the worry or concerns that importing involves.
Do you pay a little more, yes you do; Do you have peace of mind should you need to return or exchange it, yes you do!

This is Hasbro we're talking about. They had the faction logos upside down for the first few runs of Generations Dirge before they figured out something didn't quite look right or someone pointed it out to them.

It wasn't that the symbols were upside down, it's that that forehead crest of the symbols was mispainted.T-Macksimus wrote:This is Hasbro we're talking about. That's awesome! A bit disappointed that it's not going to be a Sideswipe-Prowl 2-pack, but this is still a great sign that at least some new MP molds will be brought to the West.
Also, I don't spot any deco changes...

It was homaging the Targetmaster version of the G1 toy, which had a much more red deco than the original G1 toy and also came with a Targetmaster partner, just as the Hasbro MP did (and even the arm stickers they provided homage that version of the toy if you compare the two).
As for what will become of these new MPs, I didn't get the Takara Sunstorm because I just wasn't a fan of the really bright yellow deco they used. If Hasbro does something darker/cooler looking I may get it.

Only two real questions....is the box the same size as MP Soundwave and Acid Storm? Prowl isn't nearly as big as the Seeker mold, and doesn't come with anough accessories to justify the larger size box that Soundwave came in.
Also, pricing? If it's around $60 or so, I'll be glad I got my Takara release. A year earlier, easier to find (if past MP releases of popular characters are any indication), and not that much more money.
Posted by Bumblevivisector on April 22nd, 2014 @ 10:08pm CDT
And if he's on TRU shelves the same time as the MP Grimlock rerelease, it'll be like watching their arguments from the end of the Marvel U.S. run on the store shelves.
(Hopefully Underbase-ish Platinum Starscream will finally be gone by then, for continuity's sake)
More popular than Acid Storm, but up there with Optimus and Soundwave? Nah, he won't be that hard to find.Bounti76 wrote:Also, pricing? If it's around $60 or so, I'll be glad I got my Takara release. And since Acid Storm's box was one size smaller than Soundwave's, my guess is Prowl's will be about one inch less in width and height.

Well as far as I've always seen, he's more popular than Hot ROd/Rodimus Prime, and I NEVER saw him on shelves...got him via eBay (though thankfully, for not much more than retail). Gotta wonder, too, with his more prominent role in the current comics, if that'll spark a bit more interest than there would have been.
Bumblevivisector wrote:And since Acid Storm's box was one size smaller than Soundwave's, my guess it Prowl's will be one notch further down.
That makes sense. I don't know what else they COULD include to make the box as big as even Acid Storm's, other than empty space.

I paid a little over $90 for the Asian market one. Even $60 I feel is a bit much for what we're getting.

The lack of Sideswipe or any news about anything from Hasbro, and my love of Prowl (both the character and the MP mold) combined to plenty of reason for buying it when I knew I could. I'm not worried. This new box is fairly nice looking, but the black T/T one fits with the rest of mine anyway, and whilst I suppose this might turn up on shelves in TRU's here, I'm not counting on Hasbro UK.
Nice one for folks who missed out or passed for whatever reason before though. He's a great toy.

I ALMOST did the same when TFsource made some available on Amazon during the holidays, but Prowl sold out so I got Bluestreak (Streak) instead. Now I'm glad that happened.

Wheeljack's a different case, so who knows.
