Pessimistic reaction: This is happening instead of a new mold for Megs.
I'm leaning to the pessimistic side right now.

This makes me wonder though, could Tomy be taking a TFA route where Megatron is "bigger" than Convoy? So they'll have no reason to redesign Megs again in MP form? Whatever is said and done, it's always Convoy that sells well over Megatron.

I had one of these once before, though, and wasn't too pleased with it. The plastic used was just cheap feeling, so much so that the screw that held on one of his arms just sheared right through and his arm just fell off!

Destron Redeco
Isn't the new deco a chrome finish? This doesnt seem in any way superior to the original.

I own this mold and only transformed it once and then placed it back in the box. Like other here have stated it is very delicate and unstable.

I'm on the optimistic side. Who exactly is clamoring for this? I just can't justify it - unless they're milking the mold one last time before they unveil an MP 2.0 Megatron. Which would be awesome.

In a line that places maximum value on robot scale and G1 accuracy? As much as I love TFA Megatron, I don't see it.

Deffinately, I believe you're right, this is the last hurah for this mold before we get the 2.0 version.
While I'm not interested in this version, I do want to see what it looks like. But damn, 199 for this, back in the day I managed to get two for 99.

You can do what I did and buy him new in box for 100$ from this place:
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?siteid=0&pub=5574891718&campid=5336631220&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fm.html%3F_odkw%26_ssn%3Dlena81822%26_osacat%3D0%26ssPageName%3DSTRK%253Anull%253AMESOI%26_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp2046732.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xmegatron%26_nkw%3Dmegatron%26_sacat%3D0%26
He lists MP megatrons every week to the point that the price decreases quite a bit. I got him for 96US$ +shipping, but I have seen it go up to 150$ for winning bid, so just set your limits one at a time.
At that price, I really dont regret my purchase. I must say, the transformation to a gun is really satisfying. It's an incredible piece of engineering. And he balances really well as you can see in my pics:
I will say this though, I have transformed him to gun and back 4-5 times and I will now have to stop because certain pieces might not withstand another transformation.

Been watching those auctions myself and saving up for them at the same time. I've also been eyeing others as well. I'm probably only going to transform him once and back just to say I did it and put him up in my shrine to Megatron.

i did transform him a handful of times, it is intuitive and satisfying, but he did start to wear. one of his clips broke off, not an important one, but still. it was upsetting.
as a strange sidenote, MP01 convoy and MP05 megatron go really well with beast wars figures! thats what i plan to do with those two.

Read this whole thing wondering why someone hadn't mentioned the "Cosmic Rust" issue of the chrome tarnishing before I finally got to your post. Mine also has the issue of his hip panels falling off when I transform him.
Also, the way this is referred to as a "Destron Leader" repaint has me thinking this will replace the red parts with blue like the original Japanese Megatron figure release.

but yes he definitely has weight issues, i eventually got one of those stands for sideshow figures to sit him on. he never fell and stood fine on his own but as someone else mentioned, he definitely leans to the side due to the canon and i didn't want it breaking. i've never transformed him and don't plan to either.
oh and this was during the time where american sellers had to put that orange cap on the barrel and i heard horror stories about trying to remove it. so i lucked out as this seller was from France and they didn't have that cap on their copies!!

A part of this I agree with (not transforming him since purchase). I transform the original version and the working TFC#6 (which fire real eye poking pellets).
Supposedly the 3rd release had the "Cosmic Rust" Issue resolved.

Love every masterpiece for the love of loving engineering and incredible balance and decision making that takes place to make this happen and exist!

Then MP-10 Prime come out much smaller scale and this made me sell both MP-01 and MP-05 as a set.
MY ***BIG QUESTION HERE IS" Will this be the same size as his past release, or down sized ?
Also, if Takara is releasing him again this way, we might not ever get a smaller up-date to MP-10 scale in the future of the line. As if we did, Takara knows that a lot of past buyers would be super mad to buy a not in scale MP Megatron 2 times to make money off of the fans and then release a well wanted new mini scale accurate Meg. to make even more money from the same fans.
Just my thinking.
So, if all is true, LOOKS LIKE A 3RD PARTY WILL MAKE A IN-SCALE MEGATRON TO MP-10 PRIME. They can get my money if so... We will see maybe in a few years I guess ?

Your thinking seems backwards, given past experience.
(1) First of all, this is a reissue of MP-05. It is NOT downsized.
(2) The MP-05 reissue seems to parallel the MP-01 "Final Edition", which was collectors' last chance to buy that Prime mold before they rolled out MP-10. Many believe this is our last chance to buy this mold before Takara rolls out a new Megatron. We hope, anyway.
(3) A 3rd Party Megatron would be a major coup and a HUGE deal - I doubt Takara would just let that happen without a response of its own. After all, Fans Toys' Acoustic Wave was cancelled because Takara announced an official MP Soundwave.
So, yea. We'll see.

You say Takara will not let a 3rd party do Megatron ? Hegemon, there is a triple changer coming of Megatron as a Gun, Bot and Tank and looks to scale as MP-10 also. Back to Hegemon, I know it's nota MP, but looks very nice to cartoon , but closer to Classics scale.
Anyway, I agree with you. I think we might get a more in scale New mold of MP Megatron from Takara down the road.

Maybe so, but is it still art when it's creator does not believe it to be so? By creator, I mean the main design team. They disliked working on this project since it was rushed by Takara. Because of the very little time given, they looked at the transformation of the original toy and tried to work in a cartoon upper torso and head. They knew the final design would be weaker than other masterpiece figures, hence all those tabs and pins to ensure things stay in place. They did not like the final product.
I do think that these designers are so skilled that they still made a great figure with the little time they had, but it still remains that this figure was rushed and it shows.
I think the mold is worth having, due to its imposing nature, but not at that price. To anyone interested, see if you can get it for 150 US$ shipped. I think that's a fair price for this toy.
Oh and one last thing, while some transformer figures may be more collector oriented, THEIR PRIME PURPOSE IS ALWAYS TO BE TRANSFORMED!

hegemon and that triple changer, neither are MP's. and theres just some things you dont do, like step on takaras toes when it comes to the "perfect" treatment of their most prominent characters. as its been said, the 3P MP soundwave was squashed by takara, and he's not even on the same level as prime and megs. i imagine if a 3P announces a MP(10 equivalent) megs, takara would let it sit for a month or two then announce theirs whether they were ready or not.G1COLLECTOR wrote:You say Takara will not let a 3rd party do Megatron ? Being a masterpiece does not make it a masterpiece statement is just a moronic line sir...
The redeco is going to be awesome, just like king grimlocks!
If u cant afford the figure, dont knock it, just say it like it is... Just say that its too expensive for you, and you cant pay this kind of money for a redeco of megatron, and you would rather save that money for something else!

I don't care about the price, hell MP-10 has been over $300. most of the time from Takara. I just don't understand (WHY) would Takara put this out yet again knowing it was not what is wanted for the masses and to be in scale for MP-10 or the rest of the line. I mean Prime got a new design that people like to Transform , why go down this road on Megatron ???
Is this just another money grab on the mold before we get a new design of MP Megatron ??? I hope not, but looks that way.
I owned him already and sold him along with MP-01. Those 2 guys just stuck out in the MP collection too much to keep. Had to go unless you wanted to display them alone in your collection.
This is almost just funny to me... I thought this mold was dead forever after so many people had problems with it and hated to transform the dumb thing.......
