We knew the Legacy Evolution Wave 2 voyagers had landed in the US so it was just a matter of time before they showed up in stores. Luckily, it didn't take long at all. While these toys were first found at a collectibles store in Canada, the first sighting of Metalhawk and Twincast at big box retail is in the US, at Walmart. We have several sightings from various US states like Utah and California, all reported here by various members of the Transformers fan community.

If you are thinking of picking them up, but want as much info on the toys as possible, we have reviews for you below from community members.

Was it that way in the series? The original super mode figure has red eyes, so they werent going for toy accuracy.

Overall, I like it. It just looks cleaner than the original. The cab looks closer in size to the deluxe version, but the super mode is definitely an upgrade. I still have and like my original, so I probably won't get this unless I find it at discount. I never cared for the trailer, mine was always combined with Jetfire.

Waiting to see comparison shots to the original.

He's not less accurate than the previous toy we got of Knockout, and the car mode is great. So, eh

Same. Legacy Wave 1 is STILL hanging around at most places, and has been restocked multiple times. Meanwhile, I've never seen Elita-1 at retail (though I saw her wavemates a whole two times), and never restocked again); and every other wave has been stocked a grand total of once and then never again- but that doesn't mean I ever saw Crankcase, Skullgrin, Dead End or Inferno. But hey! We have all the Velocitron and Legacy beast figures you want, over and over and over!

The few times I saw wave 2 deluxe at Target several months ago, it was mostly Eliita I saw. I finally did see them all at least once, but as they all sold, at one point the single peg for Legacy deluxe at one Target I went to had 4 Elitas and nothing else. At a different Target I saw a single Crank Case once, and nothing else from deluxe wave 3.

Yeah, I remember the OG Knock-Out Prime toy and it suck. That one have at least a good base.

If I ever get it (on sale or used for cheap), I'd customise him into an OG character with a another head.

Someone has to say it, so it might as well be me.

Armada Prime looks to be the 2nd figure this year (after Tarn) that will beat out the 3P MP scale option, giving us a much wanted transforming character that ticks all the boxes and is significantly cheaper than the 3P option.

Importing commanders is impossible for me right now due to silly third world country stuff, but I've only heard good things about them. I suspect they're at a point where they don't have to be as big as a titan, but they're still a big ticket item, so they're right at a price/size junction where a lot of the budget can go to looks and engineering in a capacity that is impossible in leaders due to budget, and impossible in titans due to size.

So there's a good chance Magnus will be great too.

Yeah...looks great but either the torso is too big or the legs are too short.

Or the codpiece is just too large. Not sure.

I'll get him, but I think they could have added another inch to the leg length to make the proportions more accurate.

As I've said before, nice to see some lines other than G1 getting some love.

This one, may be able to get his hands close enough, but both modes have solid fingers, so no way to interlock them to recreate that attack

It's too early to say. The toy looks pretty good, but it would have to knock it out the park, in way that makes the very tought of an Armada Masterpiece Optimus Prime feel unneeded.

Also, we have to see the other characters in the Generations line.

I was under the impression that Super Mode had Jetfire-style hands. Not perfect but good enough for a little GGG homage.

Sort of. The ports do not seem to retract into the palm like Jetfire’s do. But the fingers are molded together. You may be able to bring the hands together to sort of fake it with one fist inside the other hand, but will depend on shoulder articulation.

Armada Prime Looks good. I never loved the design, but it at least barely resembles G1 (Respects +) and I'm sure the armada fans will be happy (all three of them?) But those combiner hands in plain sight have no excuse. First one to say it's toy accuracy get thrown off the world. The combined mode idea always was alright and of course the trailer has a much more interesting base mode then G1 Prime (Not to say that the G1 base mode was bad or anything)

*I know this is kind of unrelated but I'm holding a funeral for the late RID deluxe Windblade on my collection page, check it out if you are really that bored. Thank you.

There's lot of Armada fans, and it's the differences with G1 that make this version of Optimus interesting for many. There's no need to gratuitously diss segments of the fandom just because they don't align with your taste.

I don't care at all about Armada or this Armada Prime.
However, there's no denying that the feedback and responses to this figure have been really positive.
So I'm happy for everyone who has wanted this updated figure, and in the grand scheme, for me this is another situation where I have to acknowledge that Hastak is doing a bang-up job with the vast majority of these new releases.
Sure, I'm passing on almost literally 80% of this line, but that doesn't mean all of those figures are bad.
They're just not for me (and don't fit into my collection).

And for a lot, it's not a matter of forgetting...
It's simply that Armada never seemed that popular, ever.
I call it like I see it, and for being big and successful, it sure hasn't demanded much attention for quite a long time.
But again, I'm happy that this and other series are getting more attention now.
I do know it's way past time.

But this nitpick won't prevent me from pre-ordering this thing HARD.

Though if this gets repainted and released in the powerlinx colors (not holding my breath), maybe I'll pick it up and headcanon it as Magna Convoy or something

I'm a a die-hard geewunner, but I collected Armada back in the day, then I gave it to my kids. Those bots that survived got sold to a reseller. They were nice toys and were certainly more articulated than the brickbots I picked up back in the 80's, but they didn't have the same emotional attachment.

Anyway, I'm ready for something new. I've gotten kinda tired of the 873rd version of Prime and the 4,702nd version of Bumblebee.

I wouldn't call myself "die-hard" for G1, and yet almost nothing else gets my attention.
I've said it before-- all of my interest in TF really stems from nostalgia; mainly from the show... And yeah, the old toys to some extent, but more so the cartoon and the '86 movie.
Which is why screen accuracy and bot modes are so important to me.
And why I don't care about parts-forming if it aids those aspects.
And why I don't care much about complexity/simplicity of transformation.
And why I don't give a shizz about weapon storage.

But even with G1 characters, I don't like nor want them all.
If a figure (or really, character) doesn't look as good as I want it to, I'll pass on it.
Which is why I skipped everything from Siege except Springer and the 35th Anniversary versions of OP and Megs.

Another factor in me sticking to G1 characters is the cost...
I'm not going to spend money on figures I don't really want. And the financial side isn't really the issue.
I'm so far beyond getting figures "just to have them". That's where collecting gets really stupid imo.
I've narrowed what I have left to collect based on character.
Until there's some surprise releases that are currently unknown, I'm down to a 9 figure "Want" list.
And one of those is Core Thundercracker. Core Swoop, Core Snarl, and the Nemesis are all maybe's at this point. I know there's leaked rumor of a deluxe G1 Gears for next year, but even he's a maybe. It's going to be interesting to see which figure is my last, but as of right now it looks to be SS86 Swoop.

I think I would be up for something new... But there are a few really solid reasons for me to bow-out by the end of 2024 (or as soon as I have my two copies of Swoop).

The good news for all of the non-G1 fans/collectors is that it looks like Hastak may be starting to get some good footing for continuing to branch-out and away from the OG's.
But that same group better hope all these Armada fans rise up and show up with their $$$$, because more and more 45+ yr olds like myself are probably buying less and less (if not retiring from the game all-together); if these multitudes of fans of other series don't step up financially, I wouldn't bank on TF toy lines continuing to thrive as they has been.

Sorry, dude. Even I picked up the thinly veiled contempt and sarcasm toward anything NOT G1. And frankly it was unwarranted and effectively demonstrates a point I've made several times over the last few months. The Geewunners- "fans" of G1 who want EVERYTHING to be G1 and have nothing but hatred or contempt for those who enjoy other versions of Transformers. Frankly, it's BS and toxic. It's like someone who believes that Jose Cuervo is the pinnacle of tequila and ignoring Don Julio, Patron, 1942, Codigo, Cimarron and others of higher quality.

Yeah he was in RiD, but this seems more aimed at the Machine Wars version.

How long before this gets a Hoist repaint?

Gotta give Don Julio a try bro. Not a "shot" tequila, more one for sipping like a good whiskey.

A Hoist out of this mold would be cool, like a more seasoned post-war version.

I like Don Julio too! I've also had 1800 and dobel diamante. Any others I can't remember at the moment

The aftermarket prices on Unicron Trilogy figures tell me that the fandom for it is very much alive and well. it's been 20 years, those kids are out of college, this was the right time.

It's hinged so hopefully it isn't pinned. At least parts can be removed from it so it's relatively flat.

Oddly, I'm kind of the opposite. When I first started to blow my allowance on these things, the closest thing to screen accuracy some of these characters got was getting the color right (lookin' at you, Ironhide,) so it stopped bothering me after a while. As for parts storage, that was revolutionary. No longer having to keep up with a box of bits and pieces and trying to remember what missle went with whoever was a Godsend. Fake kibble, however, like a second car grille buried in the toy because the toy engineers couldn't duplicate the transformation from onscreen, seriously annoys me. That might be one of the reasons I dislike the Baybots so much.

Sowndwave76 wrote:But even with G1 characters, I don't like nor want them all.

I'm probably in the same boat here. I've gotten updated versions of many of the original G1's I've held on to as well as a few new characters, but there haven't been enough of them out there to amount to much outside of the kiddie lines. I've picked up less than a handful of releases since Siege and have given up hope of ever seeing a full-sized Monstructor. I'm holding on until the end of this year for the last of the Raiden trainbots, and that will likely be the end of it for me.

You can only dig up treasure in the nostalgia mines for so long, and that vein is beginning to run dry.

I look at it this way... as a fan of the original series, I am glad that high quality toys and great character representations of other eras are being made. If something strikes me as highly desirable, I'll get it. if not, I'll pass. I had the original Armada Prime (as well as Armada Jetfire and Overload).

The new CC Armada Optimus is better in every way, but it dosen't fit my personal current collection, so I'll pass. But I hope everyone who wants one, gets one. I hope Hasbro/TT continues to look at characters from other eras, while at the same time filling in gaps from the Original Series. It brings a nice balance, and helps budgeting since I dont feel the need to purchase everything.

As for Original Series Nostalgia... I look to Star Trek. That's never going to go away. Fans of the original series had their first fan convention in what... 1975? About 6 years after the series was dead with no prospects of revival. But the event was hugely popular. I think 1975 was also the first San Diego Comic-Con (probably not the first gathering of Comic Book fans , but definitely early on)

In contrast, the first Botcon was in 1994. Seven years after the TV show ended in the United States (only 4 years in Japan). The toy brand had been gone for only about 4 years in North America, but in some parts of the world it technically never ended. OG Series reruns were airing on the Sci-Fi channel, and G2 was in full swing. Nostalgia for the original is now almost 75% of this franchises life span (30 of the last 40 years), so I'm pretty sure the profitability of remaking characters from the original Series is never going to go away until all us old fogies are gone.

The super rad Junkion repaint looks p neat! Almost makes it hard to decide which one to pick, the designers said we have a couple more of them coming down the line too yes?

As for G1 remakes finally running their course somewhat, it is for sure about time but really it just echoes what happens with Generations 10 years ago and the UniTriology stuff before that, doing cool reimaginings of classic ideas. Which is also a great thing

Armada Prime is looking pretty good so far, especially good job on the trailer with giving it actual legs! Using the back to cover up the hollow upper body (which apparently can't be helped), clever. :)

Scarr, Swoop and Volcanicus... Scarr (nice name change) looks beefy, giving Sludge a run for his money. Swoop almost looks cute  Volcanicus looks beefy but... I can't believe I'm saying this... bland. I'm gonna wait on an in-person look because photos do add mass in the wrong places. The hands definitely cement the Monstructor association... But guys, they're dinos, not the Monsters we know:

Would take a lot of retooling to get the proper Monster Modes (some more than others)... But I'd be very pleasantly surprised if they did. For now, I'm betting on Dinoking or maybe a G2 redeco.

And can someone tell Evan that Sludge's crotch flap has to be folded up for Volcanicus?

I don't think retooling is viable at that scale, wouldn't we need entirely new molds? I don't want Dinoking but do want Monstructor, and I would settle for straight repaints over nothing. Since the shells and inner alt-modes often didn't match, and since the latter often didn't look like anything, I don't think it would be a deal breaker.

On the other hand, I like how Legacy has replaced the Pretender robot modes with the shell designs, giving us articulated Decepticon monsters. If they did that team as proper Deluxes into a combiner, that would be best, but I don't know how likely that could be.

Monstructor would look really evil as he should be if they went that route :x But I'll take 100% mechanical like the Terrorcons, as long as the alt modes looked more like the shells and not some simplified mess.

I want BOTH Dinoking and Monstructor, but at proper-to fiction size (which would necessitate deluxe individual bots at the very least, Voyager would work as well)

However, with regard to retooling. There will have to be a little done for the Dinoforce to work. I dont expect Goryu to be a stright up Green/Silver core Grimlock (at least I hope not)

However, to Get Icepick out of that mold as well, I dont think is possible (same goes for the rest of the team). Of course, who knows what wizardry Hasbro and TT could come up with, but whatever they are working on for the future, My collection wont feel complete until I have proper sized versions of BOTH variants of this combiner team. Pretender shells aren't necessary, but they wouldn't be rejected either.

Alternate heads or bust!

Totally agree…
And that’s by no means a complaint.
Another aspect for me is I decided a few years ago that I’m not going to have any new purchases stored in containers. Similar to “buying just to have more”, it’s stupid to buy something that gets packed/stored away.
I’m sure some can justify this habit, even if it includes getting stuff out every few months.
But I can’t justify that anymore.
Hell, even the 4 TR reissued Headmasters I bought that are still sealed are on display between a couple shelves (I love the packaging).

But yeah, the countdown is on.
A dozen-ish more figures over the next year & a half & then I’ll happily dip.
It’s been a decent run, but all good things…

I got my Tarn figure last week, and got to mess with him this weekend. He is just as good as everyone was saying he was. He is really solid, and he is really good. They finally did him, and they nailed him. Just like Jhiaxus, this was a character who needed and deserved a toy, and they killed it.

Now I gotta decide if I buy a 2nd Tarn or not for the Cyberverse shelf.
