This mean most fans will not only have their ideal deco, but he will be easy to get as well.

Yep. That would be why it looks so needlessly garish. I'd have expected better from HasTak. How hard is it to get this wrong?
When 3P can do it so easily and on a much smaller figure:

I think it's worth pointing out that there are a few problems with "comic accurate," including that while the pylons were usually grey-blue, they were sometimes red, and they were much smaller than in this mold. I think that grey-blue was usually supposed to represent chrome or a metallic sheen, rather than actually being blue. Maybe most significantly, you see a few different designs across the US and UK series.
Ultimately, I think they tried to split the difference between the toy and the comics. That's why I love the inclusion of the foil stickers sheet--if you want it to look like the original toy, nothing else will get you closer. If you want a comic or contemporary design, just toss the sheet. I'm a big fan of the UK comics and I own the original toy, so I can appreciate both goals. I have a Marvel villains collection already, so that's the way I'll display mine.
(Generations Darkmount, Generations Select G2 Megatron, RotF Bludgeon, Generations Thunderwing, SDCC Ratbat, Marvel Infinite Death's Head, and a Siege Megatron I need to repaint. Siege Shockwave is usually with other displays.)

He literally looks like the Marvel character model you posted, but with stickers, which you can choose not to apply, and red shoulders, which that figure you're praising also has. It even has the whole arm in violet except for the grey hand like the very character model you posted, unlike that 3P figure and that manga galvatron, which have the whole forearm done in grey.

Because it’s a deco inspired by the original G1 Galvatron toy and not actually a direct attempt at the Marvel Comics color scheme?

It comes down to phrasing:
Behold, Galvatron! The herald of Unicron blasts his way into the Generations Selects line with this special edition figure! This Galvatron figure is inspired by the classic 1986 toy release, featuring comic-inspired deco.
So it is actually supposed to be a combination of both. Somehow.

They ought to have moved to either recolor the movie character, or retool the figure, so that the colors were matched across media. Instead, we get situations like THIS, where they're stuck having to crank out two sets of figures - one that's 'cartoon accurate', and another that's 'figure accurate'.
In a time when they can't even get enough NORMAL figures in stock to satisfy demand, they need to stop wasting time on recolored versions and get more regular figures in stock.

Those lines are unrelated though.
Meaning there's no "time wasted" between lines. Furthermore, bad distribution affect EVERYTHING.
So, eh. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I believe Chris McFeely touched on this in his YouTube video about galvatron
Final changes were made to the design for the movie after the toy had already been designed. Same thing happened to several of the 86 toys I think

I understand 30-40 years going on in this franchise toys-matching-animation is a big deal, but honestly for me, back in the 80's it wasn't given much thought, at least among my peers. I think it was generally understood that animation designs were altered to make the characters more humanoid/relatable? And the comics followed suit soon after only doing toy accurate representations for a couple of issues.
None of us expected the toys to match what we saw in the animated series. And although it is a staple of modern Transformers, it still not something I need. I mean I will go out of my way when TT specifically offers something more animation accurate, but that is more-or-less a Bonus to me, rather than something I demand. Take it from someone who once owned Ironhide, one of the most egregious definitions of toy/animation difference. It wasn't a big deal to me. I knew who the character's were, there was no existential identity crisis, or thought that the toys were in any way inferior for being different. I think Floro Dery's designs (the movie specifically) are awesome, even if they couldn't be translated in toy form at the time.

Hot Rod also has different colors in the movie.
I wouldn't mind a pure "Marvel deco", but the toy one is so similar that it doesn't amount to very much.

This is probably as much info as you can hope to get. In general, the wiki is the best source. It just says that there were multiple design revisions.

Your post makes it seem like you enjoy the toys but don't know how the sausage is/was made. I wonder how long you've had your robe and sickle, so to speak.

Well, there you go! They were just inspired by the toy and comic deco.
I think it’s close enough. The stickers will help with some of the G1 toy detail, or you can leave off the stickers for a Marvel Comics look if you accept that the comic’s light bluish coloring represents silver chrome and is translated into plastic form as a semi-glossy off white color. The same thing happens with Optimus Prime. His G1 toy had chrome silver thighs, that are translated as white in the cartoon, but left light gray on most modern G1-inspired toys.

Maybe it’s attempting to do multiple things to catch the attention of several people and not just you wanting a very specific version of the deco?

Randomhero wrote:Maybe it’s attempting to do multiple things to catch the attention of several people and no just wanting a very specific version of the deco?
As opposed to every other figure?
This isn't the first time they have done a "toy-accurate" deco. Nor the first time they've done a "comic/media accurate" one. However, in this instance, I think the middle ground wasn't the choice that would have appealed to the most people.
"A Very specific version" has been the point of the more prominent figures within the Selects line so far. G2 Ramjet, Cordon etc

There’s a first time for everything. Hence applying stickers for a selects and black Zarak is attempting multiple things. He’s based on the cartoon and toy yes but his head module is homaging victory

Of course, my standards may be more lax than others. I grew up with G1, and I understood that the toys and the cartoon characters and the comic characters were all the same. I grew up overlooking color or shape differences.
I think we should be grateful that they're even trying to acknowledge and reconcile 35 years of conflicting designs rather than nitpick a plastic color here or half an inch of height there, but I get the appeal of complaining, it's fun.

The blue conveys lighting, like with superman's hair in vintage comics. It's like saying the MPs aren't cartoon accurate since they dont have cell shading.

I've just been curious though, how to online retailers obtain information about official reveals? They often get them at least a couple of hours before I would think, perhaps even a couple days before, perhaps agreeing to an NDA until the same day? I just remember some obscure site had the Selects Black Zarak pre-order up at least 2-3 hours before Pulse revealed it. So much so that many thought it was an April fools hoax.

It's no different than when Takara did that Marvel-colored MP-8X King Grimlock with slate blue instead of black. It evokes the character's appearance more directly even if it was just an artistic technique.
Plus, Megatron is a gray character and he was consistently gray in the comics, in contrast to Galvatron II's usual blue.

Thank you. Yeah it says "available at a Later Date", but usually it drops around 1pm my time. With the limit of 1 per order hopefully it works out. I've not been denied anything because of this restriction before, and usually I try to only order shipments that exceed $50 so I still get the free shipping, so the extra $50 on premium membership would have been a waste for me.
Also, I'm just curious, is the spoiler box actually IN STOCK now , or just another pre-order? if it's actually in stock now and shipping as soon as paid I'll go for it, if not I'll just stick with my walmart pre-order.
