It has been a while since we heard of the Platinum Armada of Cyclonus set. It has been available online for a while, not at the greatest price, but now it has hit Canadian retail. It was found in Montreal, Quebec, Canada for $79.99 CAD, which is around $60 USD, so not as ridiculous as other sets have been. For those unaware, this set features a new sweep headsculpt that was never used before. In Canada this is a Toysrus exclusive, while it is a Target exclsuive in the US.

This makes me jealous, as a Brit. $79.99 Canadian? Toys R Us UK have it on their website for a horrifying price.. £99.99!!! That's the equivilant of an eye watering $131.26 US!!! Or $173.53 Canadian.

Well, if you're wanting it; a certain UK site has it for a pretty incredible price on pre-order

Woah. So this set is already at the "sale" price instead of the usual 110$? Kinda amazing! I wonder if the price will remain this way or if it will go back to 110$ after a while?

Wow, that Cyclonus set is intriguing. Especially for $60 USD!
Do we know what the price is for the upcoming set of the "Autobot Heroes"? I can't quite make out what the paper says in the picture.

That set is around the 150$ price point.

Thanks WJ! That's a bit steep for me considering it's all reissues but if it goes on sale down to $120ish then I may have to go for it. The only figure I have from it is Magnus

Reusing molds has never figured into prices. I mean think about it, Hasbro got away with selling the same Leader Seeker mold 3 times last year in different colours and they were all priced as high as Ultra Magnus.
The way Hasbro sees it, they have 3 deluxes (60$) a voyager (25$) and a leader (45$) plus premium deco on all of em (so add another 20$) and you end up wth 150$. Way cheaper than any botcon set also made up of redecos.
If the only figure you have from this set is Magnus, then this might be the set to get.

Fellow Seibertronians, courtesy of fellow user Logan79 we finally have a picture of Platinum Edition Unicron, being released later this year! The images comes from Twitter user @52. Listings having first appeared on sites like BBTS around a month prior, we had yet to receive an actual image of this figure's deco - but now Cybertron Con 2016 has provided us with the answer, appearing to homage the 1986 Movie's colours very closely. Check out the image below and tell us what you think!

Image

It is almost exactly the same as the previous Amazon release since they are, after all, homaging the same colour scheme - but there do appear to be slight differences.

Most notably in the torso... then again, could just be the lighting.

That looks almost exactly like the Amazon one from a few years back. The blue looks a little lighter, but it could just be the lighting. Are we sure it's not just a placeholder for the real one?

Besides the aforementioned blue looking a bit lighter, I don't see any differences between the two.

Crotch plate appears to be tan and there's a brown spot on the bottom of his left (our left) leg half-sphere thing.
... there's really not much, yeah.

I love's me some Unicron. So the fact that he's exactly the same (or damn near) as Amazon, is a huge let down.

I know one thing that will be drastically different...the price! Wasn't the Amazon exclusive like $60? Seems the trend these days is to ridiculously price the 'Platinum' releases. I expect this one to be at least $100.

It's practically the same. I ended up just selling my, instead of planets he collected dust on the shelf. Unicron just doesn't wow me anymore. For anyone wanting it, enjoy! It's a solid figure and a gray retool and redeco!

That's not the retail price though, thats the price for it imported from asia.

The actual price is 130$ in Asia and it will pobably be either around that or 150$ when distributed by its exclusive retailer in the US.

Still not a great price, but that $170 is not indicative of the release and just a price importers pay.

I'm just going off what bbts has him listed for. $130-$170 is still really bad monster what. I get it, economy is pretty rough and it doesn't look like toys are ever going to be what they used to be in price but that amount for a 12 year old mold is insane.

I knew that, but BBTS isnt an oficial retailer for this toy. Its like looking at what they or TFSource is charging for a Botcon exclusive and saying thats the price.

Yeah. I know I should look deeper for online stuff but I've been using them for years and it's just convenient for me. On that note I did find a SDCC brainstorm for $25 on eBay! It felt too good to be true but the guys feedback and history was great.

I know this is off topic, but that's got to be the worst misuse of 'homage' I've ever seen on a board that really overuses the word. It's not an homage if it is the same toy with the same paint scheme. Something that looks just like itself is not an homage, it's the same thing as it was before.
It's like a reissue or a rerelease. Encore Optimus Prime wasn't an homage to G1 Optimus Prime. This is the same deal.

When I said that, 'they' was referring to both toys, and 'colour scheme' was referring to the colour scheme Unicron had in the 1986 movie. I wasn't saying Platinum Unicron was a homage to 2010 Unicron.

Ok, fair enough, but that's still not an homage. A picture of me is not an homage to myself. The Unicron toy is meant to resemble Unicron from the movie, so it looks like itself. It's not homaging anything by looking like itself. If this Unicron was was painted up like that scene from Headmasters where Galvatron gets all large and round and planet-esque, that would be an homage.

Speaking of which....why can't we get that? That's another use of the mold that I'd be interested in.

Say what you will about the high base prices of the Platinum sets, at least THEY ARE SCALPER PROOF. When a limited collectible come out dirt cheap, scalpers come running in like locust abd ampty all the shelves in 3 seconds. Then, you sucker will have to pay double or quadruple the price. So, high price now, EVERYBODY get a chance to grab one, then the cheap can hold off and wait for a sale.

To hell with scalpers. I support Hasbros ""ridiculous" prices. Because ironically, the Platinums ALWAYS get on sale sooner or later. And most of the time, we can buy them at the relatively "normal" price down the line. Especially since Hasbro stopped being stupid and all of their packajings are in English, French, and Spanish.

I'm pretty sure if the Platinum is the exact same thing as Amazonicron, the "original" may actually drop in price. Because more supply. Right now, the price is inflated as hell so the ones late to the party were screwed. So my guess is the price of the old one may match the Platinum's at the very least.

Couldn't they have at least upscaled the size to be bigger than Metroplex for the price? It's weird having a planet that could be stomped on by a city from a planet it originally almost ate.

Is anyone else just satisfied with their original Armada Unicron, at least until Hasbro or someone produces some giant sized ultra-Unicron?

I have both the Armada AND the Amazon and, plus the Throne of Chaos accessory. You can say that I'm PLENTY satisfied! :-D

I absolutely am. I made the comment earlier about the giant bloated planet Galvatron repaint, but if I were interested in that, it'd probably be that I was interested in looking at pictures of it online. We've had repaints of this toy in Energon and a bunch of exclusive rereleases, but I've personally never felt the need to get a second one. All the rereleases have just been this toy in different paint, so there isn't any real impetus to double dip. It's also a fine toy, for what it is and who it is. If there was a brand new figure, I may be tempted quite a bit, but the same guy with slight color differences doesn't do it for me. I do think it's cool that there have been so many opportunities for people to get this guy though.

Dagon wrote:Ok, fair enough, but that's still not an homage.

How about everyone is right enough that it doesn't matter :D To me this is Armada Unicron with a G1 Unicron head, and the rest of the body is an homage to the color scheme of G1 Unicron. To you, this is G1 Unicron. Both things are ok.

And your Galvatron idea is glorious. I'd love that.

"State your business!"
"This is my command. You are to buy the 2010 Unicron Redeco. It is the one thing - the only thing - I wish you to purchase."
"You have nothing to fear! I have already purchased the Amazon-exclusive Unicron with my bare hands!"
"You exaggerate."
"The point is I got the mold, and the movie-homaging redeco with it!"
"No... the point is, you are a fool. The mold with the same deco has been passed to a new franchise - Platinum Edition. Buy it again."
"Why should I? What's in it for me?"
"Your bargaining posture is highly dubious... but very well. I will provide you with new packaging, and more retailers to buy it from."
"And?"
"And nothing! You belong to me now."
