So the one with the lightbar? Isnt that a little lame?

Thats straight up false, BOTH the combiner head and combiner torso is integrated in Scattershot, which was not the case with the G1 toy.

Who knows, maybe they took the light bar off. It seems they put quite a bit of effort into this set so I think it's in the realm of possibility.

The SW version of the mold has always held together better than my DE, who's legs separate and the combiner peg falls out if you so much as look at it funny. While that might not happen with every DE, I'd rather not take the chance.
And besides, you can't see the lightbar in combined mode, which is the way I'll be displaying him.
Anyway, as for my opinion on Comps himself, he can't come out soon enough. I'm excited to get the Groove mold, and he has two of my favorite limb molds and my favorite torso mold. Plus, new hands and feet so I don't have spend $40 dollars on the PE kit.

No, there were rumours from people who had seen him that he still had the lightbar, I was always thinking it might be a placeholder (as we saw before) but us seeing that they are indeed using this mold cements those rumours into fact. He has a lightbar, its no question of that, we just have to either accept it or not. I am not there yet.

If I remember correctly. no rumor actually predicted what mold Lightspeed used, just that he was from a Stunticon.william-james88 wrote:No, there were rumours from people who had seen him that he still had the lightbar, I was always thinking it might be a placeholder (as we saw before) but us seeing that they are indeed using this mold cements those rumours into fact. Anyway, if they didn't remove the lightbar from Smokescreen, then they probably won't for Lightspeed.

Those are knockoffs. I was referring to Computron's designated kit.

Ah I didn't know that, no matter like N said he's going to be in combined mode most of the time and even when he's not he'll be in robot mode so I'll never see the bar.

It may just be semantics but... Anything not licensed by Hasbro or TT are considered "knockoffs" even 3rd party products considered by some to be of superior quality.

I consider KOs to be any design made by someone that stole it from someone else. So Quantron isn't a KO (at least as far as I know), but my CMP-20 is.

Both the high quality KO and the Perfect Effect kit are taking advantage of a property that is not theirs to make money. Also if the PE kit was designated for Computron then where is his name on the box, huh?

So that means you dont give your combiner knee pads when you use the dead end/streetwise mold as legs? You just let the front fold down?

I hope they fix Afterburner, he looks bad to me, with that silly banana windshield. I'd also like some color changes here and there- especially silver hubcaps.

No, I just never use it as a leg - ever, neither him nor breakdown will ever be a leg for me.
That being said, lightspeed (bigroove) is gonna have one heck of a kneepad with that canopy sticking up

Yeah I just fold it down, it doesn't really bother me. Besides the way I transform optimus and motormaster I can't do the knee pad thing.

How is Quantron not a knockoff of Computron? Btw... I don't want to turn this into *3rd party product* is evil debate, there are other threads for that. I think some of them make amazing toys. But I'm just saying, call it what it is.
Some 3rd party hand/foot accessories may be better than others, but ALL are knockoffs if they aren't Hasbro/TT

Since having Nosecone in the intended configuration doesn't give Comp a kneecap, it makes it even.william-james88 wrote:steals_your_goats wrote:Ah I didn't know that, no matter like N said he's going to be in combined mode most of the time and even when he's not he'll be in robot mode so I'll never see the bar.

He doesn't share/steal any engineering or molding from HasTak product at all. He's entirely original engineering/molding, which is all that counts when deciding whether something is a knockoff or not. Whether or not it infringes on IP is another matter altogether, but then IP law is such an outdated, complex and monolithically clumsy beast that quite frankly there's no point brining "MUH IP" into it. Technically, customized action figures and fanart are "IP infringement" but only a total arse would sue someone over that. In any case, for it to be a knockoff it would have to have actually copied existing HasTak physical product and tried to market it as its own.
Now iGear's Seekers were knockoffs as they were basically just slightly modified and downsized versions of the MP Seeker molds marketed as their own.

Because Quantron shares no tooling with any pre-existing Computron.

Not just an arse, but an idiot too. No point in suing if no money is being made. Which is one of the reasons I think Hasbro doesnt do it. The legal costs might outweigh what they could get from suing 3p companies. The 3p market is ridiculously small in comparison to the Trasformers brand.

I am glad they decided to use the SW mold as it's superior to the Breakdown/Wheeljack mold. The light bar probably won't bother me too much as Lightspeed supposed to be a sort of scifi car ,correct? So you can just look at it like some sort of futureistic detailing Tron style (assuming it's colored). If it's just the plastic color it can just be some kind of spoiler I guess.
Afterburner and strafe look like some pretty good retools and the deco on Scattershot looks so much better now. Hopefully Nosecone's waist is better than Brawl's. Those new hands and feet are the bomb!
This could turn out to be the best of the Scramble City CW combiners. Now I anxiously await preorders from TFsource or bigbadtoystore.

Comp looks good. The colors are way better than Beta Face. I am on the side though that thinks Wheeljack would have been a better choice for Lightspeed. That alt mode looks so much more like the G1 toy.
Anxious to see Afterburner in cyberbike mode.

It is but it is still theft and personally I think the reason for them not stepping in might have to do with the fact quite a few of these companies are based out of Asia and IP is a weird thing over there. Hence why all the KOs that are in official packaging are from Asia.
Honestly it is theft of IP. It is hasbro and takaras characters and while knock off is a bit of a poor way to refer to some 3P stuff they are "knocking off" IP. You're not buying 3rd party figure because it vaguely looks like the character you enjoy. You buy it because in your eyes and opinion it is that character.
Bringing the subject up about fan art, there are some conventions that don't allow fan art. Not TF cons but some conventions don't allow fan art for that reason. Disney used to be a huge stickler for that stuff. Personally as a fellow artist and comic writer who does create his own original comics and attends conventions I don't like fan art. I'd rather see original stuff. If I want a deadpool picture i can google it.
It's nice to see someone refer to 3rd parties as small because they are. It's insane that some people actually believe that 3P are financially damaging hasbro because theyre not. However they should step in to protect their IP.

No Hasbro wont sue, they just wont allow 3rd party builders at Botcon . Again I'm not talking about pressing charges, but it is what it is. Nobody who if a fan of Transformers cant look at Quantron honestly and not think Computron. At some point you have to use common sense. Again I'm not saying these things should not exist. But in the original context - Calling Western Animiation's product a "knockoff" in comparison to PE just seems silly.
But as for Hasbro's CW Computron -It is really great looking. cant wait for more detailed photos.

It'd also be awesome if we can get some "generic" sets of the hands and feet in the colors of the other Combiner sets to go with the previous combiners that have the terrible hands and feet.

Autobot N wrote:So Will, what is your opinion on Comps?
Thanks so much for asking, N. I actually love him. Which is odd since people might remember I was really down on the guy.
I once looked at what was going on and thought that even if we do get him, we would be stuck with the same crappy scattershot and the poor excuse of a drill on nosecone.
But looking at him there in the picture, I really see a fully unique combiner even if nothing is fully new here. He seems to be his own guy and looks glorious.
I especially like that 1 is a completely new mold for Hasbro, and not only that but it is even a retool from Takara's exclusive mold, so doubly new. And its an interesting take on afterburner. I mean, how else would they have handled that elongated tron like motorbike from the Groove mold.
Its cool how both Scattershot and Strafe have new add ons. I dont own scattershot yet so this is a major win. The chest looks great! I would have preferred a double nosecone for Strafe but this isnt so bad. And I am a big fan of the previous classics strafe which was also a single nosecone jet (and a stealth one at that) so this is fine.
Plus I love being able to handle a mold or something new to it without needing to spend tons on an exclusive so I will be able to experience that Botcon Ramhorn addition without buying Ramhorn.
The weakest one of the bunch is lightspeed simply because I have this mold a bunch. And plus I forget where I found this but I had read that his head will simply be the streetwise head and that ticks me off.
But all in all, I am happy that there is as much new with this toy as there is with other combiners and that he looks unique in his own way. That pat means a lot to me. He will be bought at 25% off guaranteed!
Posted by Chainclaw1976 on March 9th, 2016 @ 12:15pm CST
I think all of Combiner Wars was a sort of gag reflex to the 3P industry. And I think we'll continue to see more and more Hasbro versions of toys the 3P guys have already put out.
(P.S. I am not complaining, lol)

Because the gimmick is anyone can be an arm or leg and it's easier and cost effective to make a hand/foot combo. The original hand/foot do work. Especially since the target audience is kids.
