Singaporean fansite Planet Iacon has uploaded in-hand images of Transformers Collectors' Club Subscription Service Tarantulas & Serpent O.R.! The demented spider is based off the Reveal the Shield Wreck-Gar mold, and more specifically the E-hobby retool Scrapheap which has only been released stateside once before as the Shattered Glass Botcon Exclusive Scrap Iron. Tarantulas is sporting his original (pre-Transmetal) deco primarily purple with yellow/green accents, but homages the Transmetal version with his two wheeled bike mode. Serpent O.R. is a repaint of Takara Generations TG-20 Ratbat (originally Generations Scourge) and is based on G.I Joe's Cobra Emperor Serpentor making him a rare dual franchise figure! See the images below, and stay tuned to Seibertron.com: home for the best Galleries and Conversation around!

I know that it would seem redundant seeing that Gens Senator Ratbat had the metallic plastic/paint, but Serpent, Oregon really need metallic pant, at least on the gold bits. It really looks like a horrible yellow, like armada hotshot/hulk hogan levels of yellow.

Pretty clever giving Serpent O.R. that alt mode. Looks almost like the air chariot the 80s G.I.Joe figure was packaged with the first time around.

So, the same year Serpent O.R. is in the FSS, Hasbro releases Viper. I wonder if they were meant to go together, because this is a hell of a coincidence otherwise.

I could see it being a coincidence since the Club might have seen the Ratbat head and got the idea of Serpent O.R. first, with the main Hasbro brand team doing Viper independently since team member John Warden was the lead designer on the G.I. Joe brand team from 2006 to 2013.

If not for the brand team having the former Joe lead designer in it, I too would be more inclined to consider it more than coincidental, but his being there helps open the possibility of the Club and the brand team coincidentally doing their own separate Joe-based homages.

Tarantulas isn't too bad, but Serpent O.R. looks like a knockoff compared to the one in images (or Ratbat with the great gold paint). It looks like they wanted to make the orange gold going by the fingers and the little trapezoid on the top of his alt mode. Lime green is rather offputting, too. Shame, that was the one I thought would be most interesting of the sub. Maybe it's better under proper lighting, I'll reserve judgment for the Seibertron gallery.

Really over these G.I. Joe/TransFormers crossover figures... can we stop trying to make that happen?
Tarantulas looks fantastic... I can't wait to see his claws in a more show accurate positioning. I really do wonder if he glows-in-the-dark

Yeah the amount of GI Joe being shoved down transformer fans throats by both the club and hasbro is starting to get disturbing. I can see the club slapping a Joe in a wheelchair and calling him Chip Chase. Then theyll gloat how the wheelchair is an original mold like they did with the ape shell.

And people would still buy it.

By the way, no G.I. Joe, no Transformers. G.I. Joe lead to Henshin Cyborg and Microman, which lead to Diaclone, which in turn lead to The Transformers.

A lot of these Fake-lego brands are known for being very cheap, in price and in quality. I once bought some stuff from Megabloks. Some sort of technic-action figure that turned into a ball and could launch a rotor. I actually threw them out because they smelled horribly, and the quality was atrocious.

I wouldn't call them "fake" per se, since the basic building block design patent is now Public Domain. Kre-O can feel cheap and some clips and ball joints can be loose, but overall, nothing dramatically wrong with the blocks themselves.

I just realized that Tarantulus and Serpent OR use the same (or very similar) color palettes/plastics... I wonder if this Serpent is a test shot? Or maybe this is the real thing, and they lightened up the palette to save on costs? :-?

Tarantulus looks awesome. As an avid Beast Wars fan, he is definitely one I would like to track down. Serpent-OR does not look good to me, I have no interest in that figure, which is kind of weird considering I'm a bigger GI Joe Fan than I am a TF fan.

Those angry about the crossovers.... I really don't get.

There's only three I can think of: Viper, Serpentor, and Marissa. I don't count the SDCC Joe stuff and those are more for the the Joe fans, while the former are more for us.

That's what y'all consider "forcing down our throats"? :???:

It's probably the use of G.I. Joe figures on some releases:

- B.A.T.S. with Old Snake
- Marissa with Afterbreaker
- Rodimus & Arcee synthoids

People have been begging for this kind of stuff for years. Old Snake, Marissa Faireborn, the "Only Human" Autobot Synthoids... And now that we finally get these things after waiting 30 years... this reaction comes along.

This fandom, I swear. >:oP

Is the G.I. Joe fandom any better? Are they complaining about getting transforming figures?

People have different likes and dislikes, the fandom as a whole is not a single entity. I'm sure the same people begging for this aren't the ones complaining.

Looking good. A little sad to see the gem missing for the Microns. They add a little something I like. Still, nice to see they made it to production and also have the paint apps that weren't guaranteed.

I appreciate G.I. Joe, I just don't buy that shit (excluding any Channing Tatum sculpt). And as you pointed out further down (or up from here), there is a decent amount of it… I view this crossover as having a niche market, so I feel like all these figures are sort of wasted space/potential. One or two, fine, but what, there's like 6-10? So much to pass over. And I don't think most of the G.I. Joe fandom really cares all that much about TransFormers figures

IMO

That's cool, so do a couple. I feel like we're passed that now. I also don't view the Club as catering to only obscure fans... it should cater to everybody. Just anything Hasbro won't touch, which is practically everything. I'd rather get G2, BW/M, MW, and RID01 homeges before G.I. Joe. I'm part of the TransFormers Club for TransFormers. If I wanted G.I. Joe then I'd be a fan of that franchise.

Now I don't think it's out of control, but I think we've reached the point where they should move on. I feel comfortable saying most of us don't want a joint convention, crossover movie, or wasting TF slots on G.I. Joe toys

Well, we have tarantulas, but he was the ONLY figure I had even remotely heard of, I seriously don't want to consult with Sabrblade every year, if I'm going to pay as much as they ask for these figures, just to figure out who the hell I'm buying. One of the reasons next years tfss appeals to me (beyond COMBINER :michaelbay: )

I agree, I don't really want unused designs, unfinished prototype homages; I want pre-BW, oddball G1, G2 homages, updated micromaster figures, rid, armada Beast machine, energon and cybertron homages.

I'm not against love-letter deeply obscure stuff, but maybe limit them to 1 or 2 per year, or make them available separately from the tfss; as for cross-overs, I think that they would work best as additional convention exclusives, but offer them at both g.i.joe-con and botcon, or sdcc.

Right there with you. I've waited thirty years for Marissa, and I will be damned if I can't get her in delicious action figure form.

Right there with you. I've waited thirty years for Marissa, and I will be damned if I can't get her in delicious action figure form.

After that, gimme Spike, Sparkplug, Carly... hell, Lennox and Epps, too! I want some good human figures, dammit!

I love your sig; we should make that the slogan for the site

Yeah, 1-2 super obscure figures a year, and crossovers their own thing instead of clogging up the TFSS or club exclusives. Offer them separately. Then go crazy.
This year I didn't know most of the homeges save for Packrat and Tarantulas... IMO, this year has been downright terrible. Would have prefered TMII Cybershark, TransTech Silverbolt, TransMetal Fractyl, the other Car Brothers from RID01, Classics/G1 Prime Knock Out and Breakdown... just more recognizable characters updated that Hasbro will never touch. I think Diaclone hits only a small group of fans, which is why nothing sold out this year. There were too many bullsh!t figures IMO

Well, I knew all of the boxed set figures, I have a book I recieved as a child: The unofficial guide to transformers 1980's through 1990's. It is a picture book/ visual guide to G1, G2, and BW; I recognized battletrap, packrat, and knew what pretenders were from that. I knew who stepper was, an asian exclusive, he's had many an update; I read the threads for megatron, he was a 'new' character; as for oilmaster, I thought it was a cool gesture.

The diaclone stuff looked cool and that's all I really need for a purchase. People get too strung up on mythology and homages and what every figure means to the universe; sometimes you just have to stop reading into things and get stuff that looks cool. I didn't care who the waruders were, I still don't know who they are, but that waruder pack looked amazing.

Not calling you out, but a little bit of research can go along way for the boxed set; or just reading the threads, I remember reading a lot of your posts on this years exclusives >:oP

That's true, I do know who Megatron is (obviously), Stepper/Ricochet/Whoever, Battletrap, and G2 Starscream. I also bought the Waspinator 4-pack and the fembot because, like you said, they're just bad ass

Not exactly a fembot, but a Diaclone mech with a female pilot called Dia. It's named after a G.I. Joe character like Lift-Ticket is.

Oh; I don't know any diaclone or g.i.joe fiction, as I never cared about it, but that's kinda cool; Is the pilot thing played up in the exclusive comics?

All Diaclone robots are piloted mecha (which explains the cockpits on some G1 figures). The bios for Burn Out and Lift-Ticket do play on the piloted mech thing, but adds basic AI into the mix. Same goes for the Waruder Marauders, including Zaptrap.

Yes exactly, a fembot. Everything about her face in the comic suggests a female personality. The first word on her Tech Spec is, "Her". So fembot with female pilot.

Well I knew WHAT diaclone was; but I didn't know that the skids mech was female/piloted by a female.

I didn't know about him. Sorry.

Still, you must admit it is a hell of a coincidence, especially with them both using the Decepticobra symbol.

Let me put it this way. The Club tends to make stuff for the uber-fans since it's the uber-fans, rather than the casual fans, who will most likely be buying this stuff. Kids don't have the incomes necessary to match Club prices, and their parents/relatives/etc. most likely won't be willing to shell out the cash for them if they aren't fans themselves. So the Club goes for the demographic that can both recognize and afford their products.

In a way, it's kinda like how third-party items are likewise not meant for everybody. Both the stuff produced by the Club and third-parties are folded into the "adult collectible" category instead of the "children's toy" category (even if the Club products are manufactured from molds that were previously under the "children's toy" category).

Why, even on this year's "Cybertron's Most Wanted" box set box can the following text be found:
Adult collectible, not intended
for use by children.
Includes only the figures listed above.

Right. And you can't please everyone.

This year, fan#174 loved their offering while fan#645 hated it.

So long as they keep giving us obscure niche things, they're doing their job ;)^
