Pete Sinclair from the Transformers Collectors' Club was recently on the Cybercast Podcast and answered a few questions about BotCon 2016 and dropped hints about the souvenir figures and some future TFCC offerings. The following includes a few of the most interesting points Pete talked about.

Here are a few of the hints dropped about BotCon 2016 toys.

  • 9 of the figures uses Combiner Wars molds including the custom class figure
  • The souvenir centerpiece figure does not use a CW mold
  • One of the toys "Uses a not yet released in U.S. headsculpt
  • Souvenir figures will be sold individually outside the troop builder set

Pete also answered a few TFCC questions. When asked if there is still plans for more human characters from G.I. Joe figures, Pete answered that they plan to make "Only Human" Rodimus and Arcee. These figures be carded. More to be revealed at a later date. The next issue of the Club Magazine features the packaging reveal of the 2016 Club exclusive Skywarp. The issue will also feature the 2016 membership incentive figure Ramjet and will have Transformers Subscription Service 5.0 reveals.

What do you think about the BotCon figure hints? Do they give you an idea of what the souvenir figures will be? Discuss your ideas in the Energon Pub.

The highlight of my experience with the Club (besides the archive sale and the opportunity to purchase the Games of Deception box set) has been the Subscription Service. I really hope those reveals are kickass.

ooooh, that means that I could nab the one that I want on bbts and not have to buy a multi-pack; course, that means they'll bump up the prices on all of them

I've had great success waiting 1-1.5 years, and then acquiring the figures either (1) on sale at the Club Store or (2) on eBay. Giving in and buying them immediately has never ever paid off for me.

So, the main set has 5 CW molds, and the custom class is another CW mold.

That leaves 3 more CW molds. Maybe Shattered Glass Checkpoint (CW Offroad with a new head), X-Brawn (CW Rook with a new head), and Autotrooper (Also CW Offroad with a new head, as well as potential troop builder figure)?

All 3 were kind of teased during the sequence where SG Unicron fixes and reformats SG Optimus Prime, Prowl, Inferno, Ratchet, and Brawn in one of the Club's comics.

In fact, maybe Battle Core Optimus will get repurposed as an upgraded SG Nova Prime in the Club's fiction, in which you could make a new "Shattered Glass Ultra Prime" using him, SG X-Brawn, SG Checkpoint, and Two SG Autotroopers. It works especially great if you prefer to use CW Ironhide, Prowl, Sunstreaker, and Mirage with the regular Red CW Optimus.

I'm surprised the combiner wars molds haven't degraded to the point of uselessness by now.

And there's a third party Only Human pack of figures out soon but I can't recall if Joe sized or not.

He also said in the podcast that some of the souvenirs are maximals, so I doubt this boxset will have any shattered glass characters.

sounds to me like they'll be splitting up another combiner via the souvenier sets. most likely one made of Maximals.

as for unused in the us headsculpts on cw figures I reckon those'll be the Seeker head for Skydive and Conehead for Airraid

i'm kinda wondering what the non-cw "centerpiece" will be myself. i'd be amazed if its another effortplosion like Oilmaster and Scorponok, especially since those are usually used for the boxset and not the Souvies

would love to hear more about the souvenir figures, maybe even see them before the Convention. such reveals would be a good way for Funpub to stay relevant, by keeping themselves as front page news, and as such manufacture more hype for the convention, maybe even bring in more customers.

Some information to keep in mind as they gear up for registration:

Hello Members!

Some exciting updates regarding BotCon 2016 Registration!

First, a reminder about some package details. If you register as a Primus package holder, you will receive not just the 5 figure boxed set, but also a FREE additional Deluxe figure. We are excited to announce that this figure utilizes the Combiner Wars tooling and also features a NEW head sculpt that does not appear on any other souvenirs.

Also, the CLASS KIT (and Assembled Class Kit) features an alternative head sculpt that is not available at retail. You can add an Assembled Class Kit when you register.

Finally, per the BotCon brochure, this year's Golden Ticket features a surprise bonus! That item is in fact an alternate version of one of the Legends Class souvenir items.

Take one last look at the Convention Brochure so you know exactly what you are planning to purchase and we will see you very soon in Louisville, Ky for BotCon 2016,10th April 7-April 10!

Thanks for your support and see you in Louisville!

Brian

Take a look at that information for the Golden Ticket... Yup! They get a bonus figure this year! Considering that there is a limit of 100 GT, it's going to be a very limited figure.

I can imagine three of them will be beast wars Ironhide, Prowl and Silverbolt so you can make a Magna Boss. That's a torso and 2 arms/legs and then you can use any other two limbs.

Guys, you can't make a whole combiner out of just two or three CW molds.

There are nine CW molds total this year. five are in the box set, one is the attendee freebie, and one is the customization class figure, so that leaves just two molds for the souvenirs.

Unless the troop builder set is all the same mold that is a CW mold, there mightn't be enough toys to make a whole second combiner.

And I assume "Combiner War Mold" does not necessarily mean Deluxe or Voyager class. Leader can probably be ruled out, but it remains possible that any of the Legion-class Combiner Wars figures are fair game, right? At least the ones which were not, themselves, reused from the previous series.

So Bombshell, Powerglide/Viper, Blackjack/Rodimus, Groove/Wreck-Gar, and Shockwave, right? Shockwave seems too soon. Blackjack/Rodimus and Groove/Wreck-Gar seem too useless without a corresponding Voyager figure (On the other hand, Wreck-gar doesn't have a corresponding Voyager figure, so who knows?). But Powerglide/Viper would make good weapons for the main Predacus figure (perhaps as Laserbeak and Buzzsaw?) and Bombshell might work well enough to be included.

Guys, look at this:
LOST Cybertronian wrote:One of the toys uses a not yet released in U.S. headsculpt

Now normally, it would say, "an all-new head-sculpt", yet Pete felt the need to specify that it has not been used in the US. Of course, it could be clever wording, but that seems unlikely. If we take what has been said literally, we have two non-US heads left, Seeker and Conehead. Combined with the random red jet on Predacus's artwork, this can only mean one thing:

THE ALMIGHTY RED WING RETURNS!!

Except it looks less like Red Wing, and more like Terrorsaur. Although it could probably be used as both for those who would want it for the sole fact of it being another Classics Seeker mold, and not a BW character

The present rumor of what the non-U.S. headsculpt might be is Legends Blackarachnia redecoed as Arcee as a homage to the BotCon 2001 Arcee, which I really hope isn't true.

If we don't get Tigatron from Ravage, I'll be right there with you. However if we DO get Tigatron from Ravage, I would need Legends Blackarachnia as Arcee. 01 was one of my personal favorite sets, and having that homage would be killer.

I think the new Takara Ghost Starscream's head from the Grand Galvatron set would work decently, if that's what you're asking.

Agreed, that deco is an eyesore. Additionally, I have to think the mold would be misassembled once again just like Legends Blackarachnia.

All I have to say is that if the GT fig is either the Botcon Arcee homage or Fractyl, I'm going to by 9 kinds of po'd. I've been asking for those items for years.

Reading it again, it says Legends "Class" and not TakaraTomy Legends, which makes my think it will be on the smaller side like Blackjack, Bombshell, and the like.

I'm with you on wanting to find a golden ticket person willing to part with their legends class figure. Knowing there would be a Botcon toy from the last convention that I couldn't walk away with makes me kinda depressed.

I hope it's something gold plated or clear, etc. If it were a unique, awesome character I'd have to sulk for a week.

I'd love a green Fractyl repaint. Mind you, really want a Red Wing from the original seeker mold. If we got a combiner out of it, a green repaint would just look like Acid Storm. Hmmmm. That all gets weird in my head.

The notion of some redux figures along with some new does always appeal to me. I'm open to beast Arcee and Tigatron.

Wonder what Beast Hunter toy they could apply that dragon scheme to that wouldn't be too samey. A redux TM2 style Megatron applied to FOC Grimlock would be a great, appealing toy, too. I'm not opposed to that either.

Hmmm...

If the remaining BC figs are another Combiner and that combiner would turn out to be Magnaboss, Then I would guess that Silverbolt would be the core (since he's suppose to be G1 Silverbolt) in his BW colors. Add a Prowl CW figure done up like a Sheriff's car (browns) and an Ironhide CW in gray/red and that would take care of the main three. My guess for the remaining limbs kinda stem from the Ravage mold which would make me guess that one of the two left would be Tigatron. If it is, then the last one would have to be Airazor by default. At least those are my guesses.

Hi Folks~

Just got a clarification on the GT figure from FunPub. It will be a Combiner Wars Legends figure.

It will be interesting to see what mold the use and what character, though. I would like to see Blackjack redone as Goldbug, Bugbite, or Wasp.

It could easily be Wasp as that was animated's precursor to Waspinator, bet that's it :-?

Unless it's something weird, like airazor from powerglide #-o

But remember when the Club said the TFSS Seekers would be the last ever final use by the Club of the Seeker mold?

If this turns out to be either Red Wing or Terrorsaur, or a Terrorsaur who could stand in as Red Wing, I will do everything I can to get one. But, I can't figure out what would be more satisfying: another Classics Seeker figure, or more lulz thanks to the people who take what the Club says as some kind of ironclad gospel and can't not argue you that the Club said something so it must be true forever and ever.

Nine CW molds. Six in box set. One as the custom class. Leaving two unaccounted for...

Maybe one is a core and the other is 'army builder' autorooper? That way you could buy just one if you want or up to four if you want to complete the combiner.

Sorry. I was simplifing as a lead-in to the autorooper prediction.

As a side note, is this confirmed to be what was formerly the 'attendee' figure? Or is this just weird wording?
If you register as a Primus package holder, you will receive not just the 5 figure boxed set, but also a FREE additional Deluxe figure.
It doesn't say attendees only. Just Primus package holders. So do non-attendee Primus people get it?

According to the Botcon website:
BONUS FIGURE: Primus Package attendees will receive an extra
surprise convention piece not available with the non-attending package.
This extra piece will not be sold and is our gift to you for making the trip.
So is this convention piece the figure? Or is it some little extra that isn't an actual figure?

It doesn't say attendees only. Just Primus package holders. So do non-attendee Primus people get it?

According to the Botcon website:
BONUS FIGURE: Primus Package attendees will receive an extra
surprise convention piece not available with the non-attending package.
This extra piece will not be sold and is our gift to you for making the trip.
So is this convention piece the figure? Or is it some little extra that isn't an actual figure?

Is it confusing? Yes. Do I wish they worded it better? Yes.

Just... Yes.

So we got:

5 CW molds in the boxed set

1 CW mold as the attendee freebie with a brand new headsculpt

1 CW mold as the custom class figure with an "an alternative head sculpt that is not available at retail"

1 CW Legends class souvenir figure, which will have an alternate version of itself included with the Golden Ticket package

1 non-CW "centerpiece" souvenir figure

That just leaves the two other souvenirs, one of which is uses a CW mold, and the other uses a non-CW mold. And either of these could be the troop-builder set.

Plus, one of the non-boxed set/non-attendee freebie figures will feature a headsculpt that has not been released in the U.S. before. This could be any of the souvenirs, or even the custom class figure due to its description of having an "alternative" headsculpt rather than a "new" headsculpt.

So how long will registration be open approximately for the non attendee set? I can't make it to botcon but I really want the box set and I can't afford it just yet.

It's done! Got me and my Dad the Predacus box set, an assembled custom class figure, and a neat Botcon hat!
And yes, that was very easy.

Bit the bullet and did Golden Ticket. It stung a little, but I'll manage. Actual process was smooth as butter.

You have from now until either 1) they cut registration off or 2) the non-attendee sets sell out. For 1, I'd wager they'll cut registration off mid-March or so, but that's just a guess. For 2, nobody knows when/if that happens but they're good about giving a heads up on social media when sell through starts to hit high percentages.

Guys, the GT figure is definitely not Diaclone Bombshell, a deco that is not present on the other use(s) of the CW Bombshell mold for the BotCon set.

Let's just agree on that.

Registered. 8348

1 Primus Package and 1 assembled class figure.

Also, some interesting Tweets from the BotCon Twitter:

To clarify on the Golden Ticket figure. It's more than just a minor paint change. The GT Legends figure is cast in different color plastic.

Also, the figure does not tie in to the Convention set theme directly, but it does tie in to the continuity the set takes place in.

Note, the set doesn't take place in the Beast Wars Uprising Universe. Where it DOES take place is quite exciting! Announcement on that soon!

No, the GT toy is NOT a Beast Wars character. It uses the troop builder mold & is tied to a familiar G1 character.

The class kit figure is ALSO not a Beast Wars character. It is a Generation 1 character.

No. But it IS a 1984/1985 Generation 1 character. You definitely should add the class/class kit to ur registration.

I could see Beast Hunters Shockwave or Warrior Class Prime as a pre-Beast Cryotek.

Current club stuff takes place just after the end of G2. Most of this stuff is semi-chronological. So this could be Cryotek hundreds of years before the Beast Wars.

Or maybe they make Cryotek out of Legends Shockwave so Predacus can use him as a gun.
