This new figure is an entirely new mold taking cues from the Age of Extinction Evasion Mode Optimus Prime, but upsized and reworked to have some unique new touches to the design. The figure also sports a nice coat of chrome paint over several components. Included in the images are comparisons to the MPM-06 Bumblebee, the MP-10 Optimus Prime mold, and the Age of Extinction Evasion Mode Prime.
Blacklai notes that a lot of the joints on the figure are ratcheted, his hands open, the gun he comes with can store on his back, he has the option of a faceplate or no faceplate, and the gun even stores under the truck mode! He goes on to say that this is the best official version of the cab over movie Prime.
Check out a sample of images below, and you can click any one of the images to view the full gallery of shots. Let us know what you think of him in the comments section below!

That is nowhere near the original toy. Yes, it shares some deign cues as they originate from the same source material. But its bigger for one. The back and chest are in totally different places, and literally all of the limbsa are different. It’s not just an upsizing

actually, the transformation is pretty much the same, with few extra steps here and there. here's the transformation video.

That pic shows one of the things I hate about certain figures, where the hands are obscured, particularly on any side that restricts certain accessories. AoE Evasion Prime's hands are blocked from below so if I wanted to have him hold a long staffed weapon like an axe he can't do it. That new version has completely unblocked hands and it's a vast improvement. Also as a bonus has nicer looking panels on the underneath of the forearm too.
I don't think I'll get the new figure though cos price/size/doesn't really go with anything in my (now mostly Studio Series) Transformers collection but it's certainly an upgrade in a lot of ways.

That's the shield/backpack from Calibur Optimus Prime (the figure on the right). It transforms into part of his truck mode.

I actually do like this figure, and I'm hoping we get a version of it in the SS toyline. I mean, I didn't think we'd get Legends Super Ginrai and then *boom!* Siege on Cybertron set!
Hmm..he'd look pretty neat in the rusty colors to go with my AoE Armor Knight after seeing that shot with Calibur Optimus!

Why would we? It's way out of scale with Studio Series.

Oh pure epicness on that possible inevitability...thanks for the mental implant carytheone! Considering I missed out on the Expo Advanced Nememsis Prime this would be an absolute good with all my other Nemesis'ises.

You mean it's finally IN scale with Studio Series. I think it has to be fairly widely acknowledged at this point that not making the first SS Optimus a leader class was a blow to the whole "scale!" fortissimo of the line. The realization grows starker and starker with every release. You could argue it's close, but it's just not there. Optimus towers above the cohort in almost every scene, and my SS is pretty much equal with Ironhide in stature. Needed another inch or so.
I have to hope that this legendary at a minor masterpiece price point tries to somehow straddle the line between MP quality and appropriate SS-ish scale. That's what I tell myself anyway.

Octobotimus wrote:"entirely new mold" yeah...... no. its the same one just made bigger and with a few things added on. its sort of like generation sandstorm, except less changes.
It is based on a smaller toy, but it is entirely new. They did not use a single existing molded part from the AOE Evasion Prime to make this.
It's like how Siege Sideswipe is basically MP Junior, or how several Unicron era toys were similar to classics designs (I think I got those 2 right). They share engineering and Transformations and such, but no part of the mold used for one was used to make the other.
Hence, entirely new mold.

This is one of those stements that should be proceeded by "technically" and a glasses push up. New physical mold, but basically the same toy.D-Maximal_Primal wrote:It is based on a smaller toy, but it is entirely new. But you can say that about a lot of toys. This same logic would be that MP 10 is the sane toy as MP 01 but smaller.
Posted by no-one on October 25th, 2018 @ 7:48pm CDT
Tis true especially with Optimus Primes. Quite a lot of them transform very similar to each other and most importantly to his G1 self. In this case though, there is very little distinction in the transformation. This however does not detract anything from Legendary OP.william-james88 wrote:But you can say that about a lot of toys. Transformation is my primary play feature, and I want new and different. One of the reasons I try (and fail) at getting only one deco of a mold.

No. SS Prime may be a lil small but no way should he should have been leader class at all. That would mean Starscream, Megatron, Blackout, Grimlock and such would have all had to be even bigger and that would push the size and costs way too high.

The practical answer would be probably between 1995-2002. But to me, it's only been the past few years, since we had the Prime Wars Trilogy Toys.
Previous Generations line toys were *neat* but didn't really evoke the feeling of the original series, nor has anything IDW published, except for All Hail Megatron, which was the brief highlight of the whole 13 year run.

I'm the complete opposite on all hail Megatron, I found it to be terrible. It had forgotten what the IDW run was supposed to be. That isn't here or there, my take on when g1 wasn't in vouge was from the end of g1 till t30 began.

Not at all. I really love ordering from them, they usually pack everything incredibly well
