I mean really, why not? We've hardly seen him in any of the footage we've seen, but we've seen that awesome shot of Crosshairs and his parachuting skills.
Parachutes operate in the sky ... helicopters operate in the sky ... totally makes sense to use Drift.

What the hell? I mean, I knew Hasbro was getting cheap on us, but slapping a coat of paint on some random mold and calling it something it is not is pretty low.
On the other hand, Sludge is AWESOME. Definitely picking it up.

That silver OP looks terrible.
I'm really betting parents are going to be looking at this figure like "WTF, it's a white optimus. Fuck this kid, you're not getting a $60.00 repaint!"
Drift looks... okay.
Slog looks awesome.

All-in-all, it's a decent figure. And I plan on buying more Dinobots, so I figured I can't have all the other Dinobots and NOT Grimlock.

Skyhammer as Drift is one of the rare Hasbro curve balls, but it's not a good one. I do love the Skyhammer mold, and I appreciate the new sword, but... That mold just isn't Drift.
Slog/Sludge is a Brachiosaurid now, and it's a good change for him, taller rather than long. I know, Brachios are the new Brontos I'll be getting him regardless.

I mean sheesh...only 1 of 7 dinobots is the proper coloring and who knows if Slog is even in the movie. What's that Hasbro... @#$% Me? Speak any English? @#$% You! That is all I have to say about that.

Hasbro said it made each dnio different colors for the children so they can differentiate between the different dinos. Makes sense, as these are children's toys.

GuyIncognito wrote:I picked up Voyager Grimmy yesterday because he looks better in person than in pics. I like him better than I thought I would based on pics and video reviews, but he's still inferior to Scorn, IMO. The most disappointing aspect of the figure is the lack of articulation in the bot mode, especially compared to his Voyager-companion, EM OP.

I feel the same way. I don't really like Grimlock's dragon look, but I think I will pick it up anyhow, because as you said, can't have the six and miss the seventh.

Makes sense, tho my wife thinks it's a silly ideas when I asked her opinion on it. Guess that's where we agree to disagree
So far we have:
Grimlock: gold
Swoop/Strafe: blue
Slag/Slug: purple
Scorn: red
Slash: turqoise
Snarl: green
Sludge/Slog: grey
We almost have a rainbow here

Slog looks kinda interesting and I want to get all the Dinobots so I'll pick him up, if Hound is John Goodman than Slog is Danny Devitto.
Platinum Optimus is just as easy of a pass as the first edition is.

I like him a lot, but it just doesn't seem like Drift to me. Drift is a samurai car that is kickass, not a samurai helicopter that is kickass. More like what Windblade looks for in a male.
Also, better headscuplt FTW!

Oh, you just made me think of an awesome duo for samurai flyers. I might get this helicopter drift afterall. Then again, they are different scales so it wouldnt work out. I have no problem with Drift as a helicopter BUT I do have a HUGE problem with using an existing mold for a character which has a very specific design. There is no samurai esthetic apart from the headsculpt, so what gives!

They do the same thing with the Imaginext dinos, which are a remake of the 80's dino rider line (remember them??)and the Switch and Go dinos. I personally do not get it, because most dinos look different from one another, unless you get into species subcategories, but people in general can remember things when they are color coded better than when they are the same color. I personally would have liked to see them all look similar to Sludge's paint apps, but its ok, because they are all still really cool. Wish I could say the same for the rest of the line, but better than nothing. You can tell most agree with my ideology on this, because if you look at the pegs almost one week out or online giants like Amazon, they are sold out of Scorns and Slags, and yet have plenty of BB's and Crosshairs. Which kinda sucks, because the future waves will have to wade themselves past these two shelfwarmers to make retail. As far as online, either preorder or check Amazon every day until theya re in stock and nab them up before they are gone.

The cab transforms into his feet but the grill is part of the gimmick on his back it's attached to the end of the plunger type gimmick

I have no doubt about it. The color placement is about right (though this is a dark gray rather than the blue we're used to seeing on Drift toys), it's almost the right shape, and it's got missile pods like the Skyhammer mold has. Plus, it's got an Autobot faction symbol slapped on the side, so that narrows it down some.

Remember on deluxe Drifts toy it says he used to be a decepticon.
I believe this is when Drift is a Decepticon in the early part of the movie but for marketing sake they package him as an Autobot so they can get him off the shelf because for some reason kids dont buy decepticons anymore despite them having good guys with no bad guys to fight.

I'm not sure how this relates to Drift possibly being the mystery chopper.

They put an autobot symbol on the chopper to not spoil the plot point that Drift starts the movie as a Decepticon then switches sides.

But I still don't understand how Blackout and Grindor have to do with anything. For the record, Blackout and Grindor are completely separate characters.

Blackout never came back plus Grindor was in the trailers and it was said they are separate.
We never saw Blackout come back to life (cons had one shard)
While similar Grindor is a different chopper from Blackout
The games call him Grindor so do the toys and he is never called Blackout in rotf so I'm sure it is safe to call him Grindor.

Drift is a master of ancient weaponry who always remains calm and controlled during combat. Long ago, he fought for the DECEPTICONS. The scars of battle changed his thinking, and now Drift wields his swords for good as a member of the AUTOBOTS!
