A, hA! Right, I didnt think about that, I was just thinking of his role as director. Yes as producer if something doesnt work with him he can most definitely change it.

But does he have final cut? FOr the life of me, I cant find that info, would anyone know?

Final cut as in editting or did you mean final say? Either way, I believe the point of an executive director is that they always have final say in matters if it comes down to it.

This is a great video, from a great source about it:

Final cut is both literal and figuritive. He has the final say on what we see on screen. For example, Joss Whedon did not have final cut on Age of Ultron. They actually filmed an extended scene of Thor and his journey and even had Loki in it. He wanted to keep it but Disney said that he cold only have one slow tangent and it was either that or the Farm Scene with Hawkeye. So that part was cut against Joss Whedon's will. I am wondering if Michael Bay has similar powers that be looking over him and if he is as powerless or not.

I'm kind of doubting Bay has similar powers looking over him, as he's not making a movie for the MCU. I'm pretty sure how controlling Marvel is over their movies is somewhat of an outlier case, as they want everything to fit together meticulously, and most studios aren't quite that iron-fisted.

Seibertronians, we've got some pretty big, (but quite random) news out of the Transformers Instagram. It seems like a fan-favorite G1 character will be making his Bayverse debut in TF5. It's Hot Rod! Check out his robot mode embedded below, and tell us what you think in the comments!

That thing is ugly even by Bayverse standards. I'm happy that there will be a Hot Rod in Bayverse, but that design is
I wonder what the vehicle mode and model will be. I was really hoping that there would be a Rodimus in the movies, perhaps another semi truck, red with yellow flames. (A Bayverse version of Super-Link Rodimus Convoy would be awesome!) They did the flame paint job for Optimus, it would have been much more appropriate for Rodimus. Also, I suspected there will be a Hot Rod/Rodimus character in the next film ever since Judd Nelson was at BotCon.

I'll put the swear words aside for now. On a positive note his shins match the IDW version of the character, which feels like a nice nod. Otherwise if you asked me to tell you who this is supposed to be a new version of I'd be hard-pressed to say; he doesn't have the flame deco, the wrist-gun-pipe thingies, the big spoiler... and they're really taking this "brother in arms with Bumblebee" thing very seriously since I am pretty sure that's just a recolour of Bumblebee's head.
To put it in a less-than-violent way, it's not a design I particularly care for.

Compared to some of the other Bayverse bots, this one is pretty tame. But seriously, not bad!

On a side note, is anyone else getting a distinct Bossk (Leia's Return of the Jedi disguise)vibe from his face?

Hot Rod actually doesnt look bad considering its a Bayverse movie design. Just not much like Hot Rod, like was mentioned the shins/feet look cool but no arm pipes or spoiler wings is not. I also dont like the trend since the last movie where the bots dont show any sign of tires in robot mode.

It's movie 5 you should not be surprised by now that colours are different from their g1 counterparts it's your own fault for expecting things that won't happen.

And it's good we can have a new interpretation of a character instead of copy and pasting a old design.

Who may or may not be a massive character in the movie. You're assuming things based on the name alone, yet previous films have shown that a big name doesn't always make the character a big deal in their movie. For instance, Shockwave is a huge name, yet he was barely in DOTM. Grimlock, too, is a big name, yet he played no big role in AOE until its final 20 minutes out of what was almost a 3 hour movie, and said role was little more than being Optimus's fire-breathing horse.

We needn't have to get too excited about this reveal just yet until we find out more about what kind of role he'll play in the movie. For all we know, he could be a double agent who tries to assassinate Optimus for the Decepticons, or he could be a mere comic relief foil for the more main characters to play off of, or he could even only have a cameo appearance at the film's ending meant to build up hype for the sixth movie. Or he could even just be killed off shortly after his introduction just the shock the audience.

We simply don't know anything about him at this point, so there's not much to go on for now besides his name since he could have had any name with that design and still be the same character anyway. And with the films' history of using familiar names for different characters, it's anyone's guess as to whether or not he'll have any real importance to the film's story or if he'll be anything like the typical Hot Rod character type (beyond the rudimentary details we are given by this image).

I don't care what his role is. All that matters is that he's in the movie. That opens up doors for him to be in future movies, just like AOE did for Grimlock and the Dinobots. It's especially interesting that they described Hot Rod as Bumblebee's Brother-In-Arms, since Bumblebee's standalone movie is coming out after TLK. He now has a relative to play off of, so to speak; someone to relate to and interact with.

The same reason a lot of things happen in this brand: To Sell Toys.

And what would be gained by keeping him a secret when he's virtually unrecognizable as anyone familiar?

Besides, AOE treated the Dinobots as a big surprise reveal near the end and they were all announced as being in the movie early on in that film's major promotional campaign.

To. Sell. Toys.

And we're dealing with a new writing staff, so just because something hasn't been done before doesn't mean it can't or won't ever be done.

For someone who claims to be open-minded about the possibilities for the movies, you're not really being very open-minded about these possibilities, regardless or whether they will or won't happen.

Otherwise known as the innards. What other movie Transformer is similarly unplated/uncolored on the back, with their vehicle mode innards showing? I just went and looked at the character models of a bunch of bayverse Transformers, and none of them are like this. It's like he had plating and such on his back, but he removed it. It's genuinely inexplicable. There's no reason I can think of for him to be like this.

How do you already know that he's a major character? By his name? Again, you're assuming things without knowing anything about what role he'll play in the movie.

I know you just said that you don't care what role he plays and that what matters to you is that he's in the movie at all, but his merely being in the movie doesn't automatically make him a major character since it's the role he'll that will determine how important (or unimportant) a character he is.

Stupid to you or not, speculation is all we have to go on at this point. Otherwise, what's the point in even discussing this TLK Hot Rod news if we can't speculate about anything?

We can't really have a discussion that consists entirely of variations of "OMG! A TLK Hot Rod! SQUEE!"

I like the design but not sure it's 'Hot Rod' enough. I know movie characters can look completely different to their G1 name sakes but often they have their own really cool distinctive looks (movie Swideswipe isn't even the same colour as G1 Sideswipe and yet I still think he looks far, far cooler)

Eh I'd still take this over the godawful IDW Hot Rod design who pretty much overdoes the 'Hot Rod' thing especially with his stupid looking head...almost as bad as IDW's Blurr's head...

Can we just all agree that he's Cliffjumper?

5th movie & people are still looking for the G1 character? That has to be the worst learning disability ever!

It's a generic, boring, black & red robot with the name "Hot Rod" slapped on it. It has nothing to do with the G1 character.

I can see that.

But what you are doing is brushing off all of my speculations for no discernible reason other than for what I deduce to be as you simply not liking like the possibilities I raised (regardless of whether they will or won't happen), which you have every right to dislike but which does not excuse your treating me like a fool for raising them in an attempt to bring reason to Sly's premature celebrating the news of this currently-enigmatic character.

Deadput wrote:I'm just saying posts like "this probably won't happen" and talking about how the design doesn't have to be copy and paste of G1.
People have a right to their own opinions even if you don't share them.

And just so you know, my previous notings of this TLK Hot Rod being unrecognizable by his design were neither a complaint about said design nor its lack of resembling the G1 design, but were instead matter of fact observations meant to further illustrate to Sly how little we know about this character or the role he'll play in the movie.

The points were all aimed at Sly, anyway, so you didn't need to jump in on them when there was nothing in them for you to get defensive about.

Why, the most I myself have even said about this design was a little "be careful what you wish for" joke aimed at the G1 crowd who kept asking for a Movie Hot Rod yet got this very non-G1-looking Hot Rod instead.

Just because he has the name Hot Rod doesn't mean he will be anything like the Hot Rod we know

Hot Rod's looking a lot like Wildrider, but I can dig it.
What I can't really get behind are those eyes. Looks like the red bit's covering up where his eyes should be and the goggles we're seeing are just head-mounted lasers or something... I don't know, that's my only major issue with this guy.

Bay wont be happy til hes ruined every fan favorite transformer will he? There is not one thing about that bot that even resembles hot rod, looks like a generic background character youd see in a shot of cybertron. So sick and tired of this slap on a random name on a bot crap, how about taking the time and matching the vehicles you have with characters that would suit it then make the robot actually look like said character. Ill be so glad when this franchise dies.

Well, he's missing some of the most iconic detials of the character visually. No V spoiler. No arm pipes. No flame decco. Head design has the rough shapes of the forehead crests, and the bodywork gives him the same sort of chest and shins as the IDW version in the rudimentary shapes at least.

I'm excited. I'd love to see what they do with him. If it means I get to own a Magenta Lambo centenario toy with yellow and orange flames on the hood as some obscure repaint at some point, I'm happy.

I have only a passing interest in the bay movies outside of the characterisation of Murdermus Prime. So I'm fairly comfortable for them to do whatever they want.

Remember folks, you can't retroactively ruin good fiction or characters, by making a different alternate universe version of a character, in a completely different medium, that will probably get minimal screentime, have a different personality, and look completely different. Your childhood is safe.

If anything, it just means the kiddies will be more interested in the Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime character and we'll be more likely to get toys of him in the future. Hasbro will make a shitload more money off the Transformers brand and want to keep it going. And we don't even have to go see the film, or buy the movie toys. It's good for us. Win-Win.

Thank you Logan79! That was my first thought exactly just wasn't going to sign in to post it. But since you did I'll gladly log in to say I'm with you. Regardless of his name that's a photo-shopped Rat-Trap head.

Why would Bay be happy when snobby people keep demanding for more of what they want for years.

G1 was 30 years ago and it's dead the only thing being reused are the designs and only in comics and toys things change and if you can't deal with it then find a new hobby.

And also pretty disrespectful to wish the end of a franchise for others just cause you don't like something about it.

Boo fucking hoo oh woe is the geewunner cause and the people who can't get over it.
