Transformers 3 - Optimus Prime / Bumblebee to get makeovers

maybe the makeover will include a voice. Ratchet should get his it together and fix it already

bumblebee will be all pimped out so he can be all hulking in robot mode and prime will be a rusty piece 'o crap like jetfire and he'll have a farting problem. Prime will be too old to lead the autobots and pass the role onto the new, tougher "mature" (overly aggressive) bumblebee... sorry to spoil the plot so soon lol I'm still excited, I just hope the studio reigns in Bay this time and keeps him from going nuts. But considering the 2nd one was the top grossing film of the year, the execs probably don't care...

So Bumblebee matures and Optimus starts having to wear depends? Uncle Ironhide should be older than Prime..

I know that they are the two most popular of the film Transformers, but others do exist! Why must these two get so much attention! What happened to the 'team' that was being built up in the first film?

Might has well have killed the rest in the final explosion in ROTF; they hardly got a look in, anyway.

I hope to Primus that Ratchet, Jolt, Sideswipe and Ironhide will get more prominent parts in #3.

Cant wait to see this! They looked a little different in ROTF than in the first, but it was just slight color changes in some areas. I hope Optimus looks more like his War for Cybertron self. That so far is my favorite Optimus look!

well there is a new camaro coming so i'm sure thats the change Bumblebee will take. from the small photo i saw, it looks almost like the mustang from the Knight Rider reboot so that could explain their "mature" look ideas.

Well, that means another 1000 Bumblebee molds...

As for Prime: Since Rotf leader was very faithful to the movie model, they need to make another model for the new molds... no parent/collector will buy the same fig in two different packaging.

At this point I kind of hope they kill Bumblebee off, actually, if only to avoid the endless stream of new figures. But I suppose if it's only minor changes, they'll all be minor remolds of the existing toys and I won't have to bother purchasing them.

As for Prime...well he better be badass enough to warrant buying a THIRD leader class.

You are far too hopeful. They'll be simply redecos of the old molds.

Oh good. I'm so glad to know that it won't be a drastic redesign like the title would lead you to believe. I know I'm in a small, but growing minority of people who love the Optimus design for the movies, and I'd hate to see them change it. A few updates here and there are fine, but a complete redesign would just suck.

Bumblebee's a perfect example of this. They changed his wheels and nosepiece, but the car's basically the same design as in the first one. Changes made where needed, but nothing too drastic.

One thing that caught me off guard about that article, they say it could be the final TF film, but we all heard that Bay signed on for like five of these. So...it makes you wonder, do they know something we don't and they just let us know that this one going to be the last?

If it is the last (which I'm not sure of), I would hope that Hasbro gives us an Optimus that blows away the ROTF version.

No Automorph or Mech Alive features (except like what's on Bludgeon's legs), no battery compartment except a button cell battery, so they can slim the torso down, and instead of spending money on electronics and gimmicks like that, they could give him TWO swords, two sickles, and two transformable rifles.

I realize that's probably cheaper to manufacture the electronic components, but for the last hurrah (if this is it), I'd really like to see them top the ROTF mold.

In other words, don't bother buying any of their existing or upcoming toys because they'll be obsolete when TF3 comes around.

Ray's voice is about right for bumblebee... if you ignore those 2 lines at the end of the first movie.

Ray Park isn't a voice actor. In fact, his voice was dubbed over in The Phantom Menace.

Not to mention, Mark Ryan is the voice of Bumblebee and a few others.

And that firebreather car that you're talking about, has absolutely nothing to do with TFs, other than the fact that both Bumblebee and this firebreather are based off of the Camaro. There is no other tie between the two, period. And if I recall what I read a few days back, the firebreather isn't supposed to be a Camaro, but a Pontiac Firebird mockup.

And Ray Park's role? Probably a Snake Eyes kinda deal. (Hidden under a costume or excess makeup, etc.)

Ray Park's real voice can be heard in X-Men during his performance as Toad. Too much of a Cockney accent, whereas Bumblebee's was more of a Queen's English accent.

Well, Bay's world took care of that with this Optimus. It's a sensible change, and it looks awesome when his face plate goes up, because you know shit's about to go down.

As for Bumblebee, I'm not sure what's wrong with his head?? Yes, his face is odd looking, but that's easily explained away by battle damage and whatnot. Or, perhaps he doesn't have a face underneath the plate, therefore it wouldn't need to move.

Ok, let's list the evidence. A few months ago a "treatment" for TF3 is released involving the Aerialbots, Time Travel and some heavy G1 references.

Recently we've had news about casting for Silverbolt, a CEO telling us TF3 will be more mythos rich, and today we hear that Prime and Bumblebee are to receive character model updates.

Everyone has of course denounced the treatment, as they did with the treatments of the prior two movies which incidentally turn out to be not that different to the "fake" treatments...

Sounds like Prime may get a 'snub' nose cab. I'm starting to think maybe some of the backlash from fans is having an effect ... either that or they're just saying that to get us to see the third and final flick.

The script for the third film is not yet finished, but the ILM artists have been privy to important details. "There's an outline and most of the script is done," Farrar said.

Nowhere does it say anything about the leaked treatment. Nowhere does it say anything about an '80s feel and so on.
Just because the first film followed the treatment almost to the letter, and ROTF used small (emphasis on small) bits and pieces of ideas from the second treatment, does not mean this third movie will take this leak (if it's even legit) and make it golden truth.

The Sci-fi Wire article basically shoots holes in that theory.

It doesn't sound at all like Prime's getting a snub nose cab. Nowhere, not once. Here you go:

The Industrial Light & Magic team is hard at work updating the robots in disguise for their third big screen adventure.

"Our two lead characters, Optimus and Bumblebee, needed to be updated for the next chapter in the Transformers series," said animation supervisor Scott Benza in an exclusive interview Sunday at the Visual Effects Society Awards in Century City, Calif., where he and visual effects supervisor Scott Farrar were nominees. "Bumblebee's matured a little bit, so I would just say look for subtle changes to his physique that have him look more mature."

Farrar suggested the changes to Prime would be of the easter-egg variety that only true fans would notice. "[Prime will have] little tiny things that maybe the average viewer isn't going to notice but probably the fanboys will," Farrar said. "You actually will run into pieces that are maybe always in the way, and wouldn't it be nice if that part wasn't there? Maybe you make a shift in the shoulder, in the chest or what have you. So it might be proportioning, but it also might be for usability, so [the animators]' task could be easier, too."

Updating/updated, subtle changes, "A little bit", "Little tiny things", Easter-eggs, a shift here or there. Basically, that means cleaner lines, less work to do (they've got this down to a science by now), but not once does any of that say "We're changing Optimus from the longnose Peterbuilt, and turning him into a snubnose Mack from the '80s."

That wouldn't be a subtle change, at all. Even the public would take notice and say "Oh, he looks different in this one."

Heck, for all we know, they might be updating the models so they can be put together more like today's Lego kits. Instead of having to scramble around to find all of the pieces, now it's a modular build. That's what this article is saying to me, that their process is easier due to changes they've made, not only to the character models, but in the process overall.

Redesigning Prime into a new robot mode would be a lot more work than an edit here or there.

Benza added that Prime's updates would be badass. "We always want the robots to look cooler than they did the last time, so he's going to look a little more heroic, I would say," Benza said.

Nowhere in there does it say "DRASTIC REDESIGN! WE'RE GONNA CHANGE WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE FROM HEAD TO TOE!" it says they're going to make SUBTLE changes with Easter-Eggs only old school fans would catch. Nowhere does it say that Prime is being completely revamped. Not once.

The article also said they're working on new robot designs for new characters. They didn't once say they were using those new designs for Bumblebee or Optimus, which is what they'd have to do in order for the posts in this thread to work.

Personally, I really liked that leaked treatment. I'd love if that were how the flm turns out.

Strangely, I was never an Optimus fan until the Movie and part of the reason was the faceplate. I never liked it so I was glad to see Prime with a mouth. Shame all the TF's didn't have similar faces designs to Prime. He and Bumblebee were the most G1 looking.

If any TF's need to be redesigned, it's the Twins and their goofy heads. Buck teeth on a robot is just wrong. Never liked them on Rattrap either.

Ratchet, Jolt and Arcee need to get a lot more screen time. I actually find Ironhide annoying. He was the goofy TF in the first film.

Whose to say we don't have forward time travel, rather than backward? That would necessitate a makeover of sorts.

well it sure sounds like you have all the answers, first i never said anything about a conversion of bumblebee to something else i meant it as only a name sake and it wasn't serious

And I wasn't reading anyone, merely their words. If their words happen to show more of who they are behind the monitor screen, that's on them, not me.
