I dunno what to think about them setting a date already, I know it was always gonna happen but how about they let us see the second one first before they start talking about the third one!
I think it's similer to the Lord of the Rings films, the scripts and character designs are probably being made as we speak. If this second one goes as well as the first one did, I am sure Mister Bay is going to be doing the next one just as well.

Actually that would be 2 years my bad
TF 1 - 2007
TF 2 - 2009
TF 3 - 2011
A 2 year gap between each films.
Noted: Most trilogies usually have a 2 year gap in between them such as the Matrix Fims and other trilogies so it isnt that big of news.
I knew TF 3 was going to be made cause Bay himself stated that this will be a Trilogy
The only question remains will the original crew and Mr. Bay himself return to direct the epic conclusion of the trilogy.

Uh, I don't think they said anything about doing #4. It's mostly going to be a trilogy.

Generally sequels of this nature have an even stronger box office than the original because more people have become familiar with the franchise through enjoying the 1st movie in the theater or on video. TF 3 is a pretty safe bet for anyone involved.

Sorry... Got carried away
Everyone else was asleep, and I think I just woke them all
I think we all knew there would be a third. It's just great that it's officially been announced.
I'm certain Michael Bay will do it. He did say he could 'see himself doing a third'.

We can hope I think there's a very good chance there will be fourth at some point, though they may leave a longer gap before a fourth.

The world ends 2012, the Mayans have said so o.o
So we will never see TF4 in 2013!!!!!

What I think Bay meant by taking a year off after ROTF was that when post is completed about a month before release, He's not going to be involved in any projects for 12 calendar months before picking up another job.
[Umm, sorry bout this, but I nit-pick.]
Your 'noted' example... Movie 2 was like 4 years after the first, then movie 3 was 6 months later...
In Fact, most Sequels adhere to the 'milk it while we can' philosophy, such as; Saw, Scary Movie and Futurama [which I liked, but that doesn't make it less true].
Occasionally we get the 'shit, we need money' Sequel whenever a studio is heading for the red, such as; Crystal Skull, Terminator 3 and The Clone Wars [again, I liked that one... well, at least as a pilot episode].
Before I get any further off-topic, I'll say this. A good movie comes out when it is finished, not when it is scheduled to release...
...Which Bay doesn't understand. Want proof? "Shoot for the Edit"

But, but, but...what will become of all of these New Agey authors who are raking in wads of cash by throwing the words "2012" "Mayan" and "prophecy" into their book titles?! HAVE YOU NO PITY, MAN!?!
I smell a bailout coming.
Frankly, I'd rather wait the extra year to have a quality movie. After the Summer of Three (Spiderman 3, Pirates 3, etc) I am pretty much done, and more than a little suspicious of bandwagoning sequels for cash. The storytelling suffers, to say the least.
That being said, one can wait *too* long. Look at Indiana Jones.
HK, and the Crystal Skull reference brings us right back to *mayans*. Tidy.

I agree [and nicely done ], I can't remember too many 3rd movies that were good. IJ & The Last Crusade was a good third movie, Crystal Skulls seems like that's the third [actually it kind of is, Temple of Doom was a prequel =P ]. Anyway BOT; If they stick with what I heard a long time ago and not restrict this as a trilogy and just make movies as the story makes sense, then it has a chance to be good, but if they are forcing a trilogy it will definitely suffer in my opinion.

I think after the first 3 there should be a little bit of a break so that the studios/powers that be can carefully evaluate their next step so that this franchise doesn't turn into another Rocky series where nobody gives a crap bye the time we hit #5 or 8.
I, for one, don't want to hit the theater in my later years and drop down 20 some odd bucks to go see Transformers: Assault of the Power Scooters. Seeing Grandmas under-powered, 3 wheeled "ATV" with a familiar red w/blue flames deco chasing a familiar looking silvery 4 wheeled scourge of the universe down the halls of the nursing home is not going to break any box office records...
...actually, it just might! Now that I think about it, if they do it right that would be funny as hell!

I mean, really think on this one?
Seriously, Giant F***** Robots can get a date just like that and I'm s.o.l. on a friday night? What's up with that? Does Optimus have a profile on Match.com or what?
Sometimes the shortest headings are not always the best. You never know how some nut-job is going to interpet it. Still, I wish the big guys the best of luck. Dating is a pain in this day and age.
...and I'm really hoping it's corrected to 2012 and not still set for 2011. Switching captains in mid-stream will likely screw up the works.
Bay started it, let him run the course with it.
