The final gallery concerning Transformers products for 2015, as revealed by Hasbro at the New York Toy Fair, is for the bots of a younger persuasion among us - as Rescue Bots brings in some extra recruits in the form of Salvage, Blurr and High Tide, new playsets, more Dr Morocco and plenty of Playskool goodness to the folds. Why dont they just introduce Decepticons to the rescue bots line already ? They could make them bumbling idiots, buffoons, bullies, etc. How many forest fires can you stop before kids get bored to tears ?

Why would you want idiotic Decepticons? Wouldn't that defeat the whole point of them being decent threats?

...You know, I only remember them actually doing one forest fire. Usually it's stuff like giant runaway mechanical bulls or hypnotic cell phones. Weird stuff.

Have we seen the "classic" Rescue Bots (the ones with the original vehicle modes) that were listed in the product description?

I thought that was High Tide. It's colored like his bigger boat toy.

Honestly, I think that is exactly why Rescue Bots is successful... no Decepticons. That equals no war, fighting, stealing, lying, back-stabbing... it leaves the series open for some interesting, human, story-based episodes. Great storytelling makes Rescue Bots a really solid show in my opinion, even as a grown-up. I think introducing Decepticons would take it in a darker direction... much less accessible and pleasant for young kids.

Even without Decepticons, the antagonists the show's already got are more than competent enough to not only be credible threats but to also up the scales when necessary and to enhance the compelling nature of the story.

After all, one of the show's unspoken rules is "No stupid characters," meaning no idiots. They don't want to bring in Decepticons if they have to make them a bunch of incompetent morons, as that's no fun.

I totally agree with Sabrblade, here. While it's a kid show, there are no bumbling doofus toady characters... which oddly makes the whole thing come across as more mature than MOST of the other recent shows. I'm completely against adding dumb characters as an excuse to soften the bad guys.

I'm thinking that may be the achilles heel of the new RID show for me. Doubting I will be able to relate enough to warrant my buying any of the toys. Seems too Power Rangers for me to enjoy... tho I WILL give it a chance, of course.

I don't think this should even matter since every TF cartoon is a kid show. :)

Not just recent shows, but most children's cartoons in general. Even more than some of the other TF series.

We'll have to wait and see how smart the RID Cons are. From what little we've seen, Steeljaw at least seems to be intelligent and competent enough.

Though, there is also the other end of the spectrum with characters who are dumb but are legitimately funny and endearing. The 2001 RiD cartoon, for instance, had fan favorite Sky-Byte, as well as the Predacon trio. Those guys had failures that were legendary, and yet were cheeky and charming enough to put a smile on many-a-fan's faces. But, at the same time, none of them were legit idiots (as in, none were intellectually deficient), just poor planners and the victims of going up against mostly superior Autobot enemies.

And about the Power Rangers bit, an "enemy of the week" format doesn't negate plot progression or character intrigue. Animated used that format and that show turned out fine.

Seriously, why do they not seem to be making a boat-to-robot High Tide rather than just the mini-sub that comes with the playset?

*sigh* Mayor Luskey is an odd case. He's not completely unintelligent nor is he mentally deficient, but he has made a lot of poor (sometimes bad) decisions. When the show makers talked about the show's lack of stupid characters, they used Homer Simpson as an example of what they meant. And in a way, they're right. Mayor Luskey isn't that kind of character. He isn't a bumbling comic relief doofus whose sole existence is to do stupid stuff for humorous effect, as he is capable of being competent and doing what's right. It's just that either circumstances beyond his control or his own character flaws have made him a victim of misfortune time and time again. In a way, he's kinda like Sky-Byte, who likewise wasn't an unintelligent doofus but had enough character flaws to always find himself in a bad situation either caused by his own mistakes or by those who took advantage of him.

I guess, when we take the mayor into consideration, there's two kinds of stupidity. The kind found in such characters as Homer Simpson, Peter Griffin, Patrick Star, and Stimpy, and the kind found in Mayor Luskey and Sky-Byte.

Point taken. I guess it would be more fair to say Mayor Luskey has bad judgement. He's not an idiot, he just has a spectacular talent for picking the wrong aspects of a situation to base a decision on.

Probably something for the parents on the boards and readers - notified by fellow Seibertron.com member ScottyP, we have a sighting of a clearance sale for the Playskool Heroes Transformers Rescue Bots Titans, including Boulder, Chase and Heatwave, for $5 at Toys'R'Us stores (this one in Raleigh, NC)! Good Easter filler gifts, if you're looking for something. Check out the photo below!

But then you can't put the pilots inside the cockpits with all that gooey shampoo in the way.

It's the reason I picked up these particular ones since they actually have interactive playability with other, smaller-sized toys of the line. Not to mention an actually good amount of paint apps and sculpted detail. All they need are some knees and elbows and they'd be fairly good action figures.

And after seeing that wonderfully show-accurate headsculpt, I wish it had been used on the original Heatwave toy (regardless of how impossible that would have been).

It's weird, right? This and the OP toy just sort of showed up out of nowhere. I'm not complaining, I love the surprises - almost reminds me of back in the day when new Beast Wars stuff would hit shelves and I was so behind on Toy Fare magazine that it was brand new to me the second it hit my hands and not before.

If they feel like remaking things perhaps they can make the Dinosaurs in a larger size - such a nice idea compromised by an almost total lack of paint and minuscule size.

Chase with clear pieces for his stega-fins would look cool -especially if he was the size of the new larger Heatwave Fire truck then they could light up too.

If they could make the Dino's larger then have maybe a place so something can ride on them that would be lots of fun.

I hope one day Hasbro will make the little figures with joints too (like they did Cody who came with the big playset) perhaps as part of a giftset.

It's a shame that they don't promote these more - I didn't even know there was going to be a Dani Figure until I tripped over her on shelves in a two pack.

Yes and no. Personally, I feel anything that is a transformer should, of course, transform. These are for the wee little ones, though, and I can personally attest that my 18 and 30 month old sons both love these things. The lack of transformation actually comes in hand as the figure stays in a shape they recognize.

Been waiting forever for these two sets to come out. I really like how the toyline is starting to produce more toys of things that were created specifically for the show by its production team instead of vice-versa. The drill is Griffin Rock's Tunnel Forger from episode 36, and the sub is the second of Dr. Morocco's sea vessels.

As for the figures themselves, Graham's the only one I could do without. My Blades has gone missing so this'll get me a new one. I could use a Morocco with better paint apps than the one I already have. And, I've already got four MorBots, so I'll gladly take a fifth one.

When it rains sightings, it certainly pours. This analogy may imply that we're getting soaked in our news cycle today, but this ain't Sea World, it's as real as it gets because now we have Rescue Bots toy sighting news to report.

Yours truly stopped in to the local Toys R US in Raleigh, NC today and spotted the Transformers: Rescue Bots High Tide Rescue Rig, as well as the Tunnel Rescue Drill Set and Shark Sub Capture Set previously only known to be available on Amazon.

Image

Image

It'll run you $29.99 plus tax to party it up on High Tide's boat, and the Rescue Drill and Shark Sub were too busy flipping burgers so I didn't scan them to get the price, but it's likely comparable to Amazon. Probably.

If you see any new toys at retail that we haven't made a news post about yet, and they're still, well, new, be sure to let our News Crew know here, and if you see these particular toys locally be sure to let your fellow collectors know in your local Sightings Thread
